The Nikon D3200 Digital SLR Camera With AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G VR Lens (Black) is a professional imaging machine in the truest sense. It captures stunning high-resolution JPEG and RAW still photos and HD 1080p video via its 24.2 MP DX-format CMOS sensor. Enjoy superior color and sharpness, make gorgeous adjustments and perform creative cropping without any loss in sharpness. The camera's EXPEED III image processor makes optimal use of the 24.2 MP sensor, producing fine tonal gradations and exceptional color fidelity. The large 3.0" (7.6 cm) 921K-dot LCD allows bright, clear framing, playback, menu navigation and Guide Mode settings.
The versatile included AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens with Vibration Reduction (VR) for blur-free photos is ideal for wide-angle to medium telephoto shooting. The camera is compatible with an array of other NIKKOR lenses, as well. The D3200's quick, accurate 11-point autofocusing system with phase-detection AF within the camera finder works to ensure you never miss an opportunity to grab a great shot.
The camera features a wide ISO sensitivity range from 100-6400, which can be increased to as high as 12800. Get great shots and clips under various lighting situations with low noise. Capture full, broadcast-quality 1080p HD video at 30, 25 or 24fps, and 720p video at 60 or 50fps. The optional ME-1 Stereo Microphone (not included) provides crystal clear stereo sound to accompany your crisp video. You can shoot up to 4fps at full resolution to catch those precious moments missed by other cameras.
While the D3200 is a pro-level camera, it's certainly more than accessible by those who are not professionals. In-camera guidance shows you, step-by-step, the way to change camera settings, and provides sample photos for easy comprehension.
With an optional WU-1a wireless mobile adapter, you have the ability to automatically send superb images to your smartphone--or even use the phone to remotely control the camera and take pictures or record video! The easy-to-use app makes it all possible. Now, when you get that great shot you just can't wait to share...you won't have to.

I bought the Nikon D3200 as a replacement for my old trusted D80 and D40x combo. I also decided to downsize my lens collection to just two lens (for now) with the kit 18-55mm lens and the 55-300mm package lens for portability purposes. I have shot stills extensively for years now and I plan on do so on a ongoing basis but I am interested in doing motion work as well.
I notice that autofocus for still images is snappy in all sorts of lighting conditions (as long as there is some illumination, it can lock onto the subject). I used it extensively in a dark reptile conservatory at South of the Border and managed to capture quite a few good shots of the reptiles in their dark tanks.
As suggested on many DSLR filmography sites, I rely on manual focus for any video capture since autofocus hunts and creates a lot of audible noise. I tend to pre-focus on my subject and maintain a consistent distance from my subject.
As far as ISO noise goes, at 100% magnification, sure you are going to notice a lot of noise at higher ISO levels but once images are downsized, it is reduced drastically. Thankfully I have to do that for many of my images thanks to the 24 megapixels. In short, do not worry about any noise issues.
All in all, I definitely recommend this camera. The only things that I really miss compared to my D80 are the ability to autofocus with older lens, the Nikon CLS flash commander mode, and bracketing.

I bought one of these cameras in September with the new Nikkor 18-300 lens. I took about 300 shots in all light conditions, and had NO keepers. Most shots had little or no depth of field, even in bright sun. They were progressively focussed from the foreground to the subject, and progressively de-focussed from the subject to the background, but the subject was not in focus. None of the pictures looked sharp. The 18-300 lens vignetted and cast a large flash shadow at wide angle. While zooming-in in Photoshop, the pictures got really fuzzy way before pixelizing. The camera might as well have an 18 MP sensor. Thinking there must be something wrong with the camera and lens, I returned both. After a month, I bought the standard body and lens kit from B&H, along with the highly touted new Sigma 18-250 macro lens. Unfortunately, I got the same problems, and returned everything again. Now, before you say "operator error" let me tell you I've been taking pictures for 45 years, I bought my first medium format camera in 1985, and I have used 8 digital cameras since 2001. Everybody has marvelled at my pictures. I bought the D3200 thiking it was finally a high MP camera at a reasonable price from a reputable manufacturer so I could start making sharp 24" x 36" prints. Well, I was stumped at just trying to get good pictures out of it. I did side-by-side comparisons with my Sony Cyber-shot 16MP DSC-HX9V, and the Sony won. I also agree with dpreview that the extra MP's are probably not useful unless you use the fast Nikkor lenses that costs $2,000-12,000. Unfortunately this will probably be true for the new D5200 as well. Having had these experiences, and consider all the problems people are having with other new Nikon cameras, such as the D800 and D600, I think maybe Nikon is having a serious quality problem. I'm still searching for a reasonably priced camera with a long telephoto capability, and with a large sensor, that's easy to carry around. Maybe this is not "possible", but I think the manufacturers could do better than what they have now. Sony seems to recognize this nitch with the introduction of the RX1 and RX100, but they still don't have one with a long zoom.

I use this product as an Amature Photographer who wants to take amazing pictures of friends and family. I want to knock their socks off. I took a class to figure out how to use all the functions. Because I came from Point and Shoot Cameras. So now I know what I am doing and when and why to change the functions. The Pictures are soooo crisp and clear on ISO100. I just love this camera. I suggest not purchasing a more expensive camera than this and instead go with this one and spend money on extra lenses. It is very easy to maneuver and when i have it in my hand it feels nice and buttons are easy and comfortable to change. You will not go wrong with this purchase. I was a Canon girl and now I can say I am a Nikon girl!

I am a recreational photographer and a Nikon fan. My other camera is a Nikon D200. My motivation in buying the D3200 was to have a second body so that I wouldn't have to change lenses whilst taking pictures of wildlife in a dusty environment. The D3200 is a fantastic camera for the following reasons: It is easy to use, is light (450g) and takes great pics. I would highly recommend it for the beginner and also for the experienced photographer whose looking for a second camera as a back-up.

Love the features you get with the D3200 vs the price. HD video...you can shoot completely auto where the camera does virtually everything except push the button.

I needed to update my old dslr that was no longer functioning, I wanted a faster better camera but I had a limited budget. This deal gave me everything I needed at a price I could really afford.
