Product Highlights
  • 16-bit/48 kHz Resolution
  • 4 Selectable Polar Patterns
  • 1/8" Headphone Monitoring Jack
  • Instant Mute
  • Latency-Free Monitoring
  • Desktop Stand
  • USB Cable
  • Mac & Windows Compatible

Employing a tri-capsule design that provides you with a variety of selectable polar patterns for flexibility in recording, the silver Yeti USB Microphone from Blue is capable of capturing your audio in up to 16-bit, 48 kHz resolution. Depending on your sound source, you can select between stereo, cardioid, omnidirectional, or bi-directional polar patterns for optimal results.

The mic has an integrated headphone amp with an independent gain control for latency-free monitoring. Microphone gain control as well as an instant mute function are available right on the device itself, while the included stand allows for pivoting in a variety of angles for ideal placement, with the added functionality of folding the mic down for storage and transport. The Yeti is Mac and Windows compatible, and includes a USB cable.

Recording Control
Yeti features controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute and microphone gain—putting you in charge of every level of the recording process. If you're experiencing distortion or feedback while recording an especially loud source, simply adjust the microphone's sensitivity with the gain control. Or, if you want to take a break in the middle of a podcast, use the instant mute button.

The microphone comes equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and allows you to listen to what you're recording in real-time, without latency delay. That means no more hearing a note 3 seconds after you played it. You can adjust the volume of your headphones using the control on the front of the microphone
Designed for Simplified Recording
Yeti doesn't mind getting pushed around, it lets you adjust and pivot the microphone in relation to the sound source. Once you've achieved the desired angle, simply hand-tighten the set knobs to secure it in place. Yeti is a side-address microphone, so you can capture the best sound by going face-to-face with it. The microphone can also be folded down for portability, or removed completely from its base for mounting directly on a mic stand
Streamlined Setup
Simply plug Yeti into your computer's USB port with the included USB cable, calibrate it with your operating system, and you're ready to record. Yeti offers driver-free operation

I use the Yeti for screencast voiceover work, and it rocks. It is the quietest USB mic I have tested, and the tone and clarity of the recordings that it produces are amazing.

At first, I thought that I didn't like the loosness of the volume and gain knobs, but it actually makes sense that they have some play to reduce "finger noise" when adjusting on the fly.

The mic, while big (very big and heavy, but not "too" heavy without the desktop stand attached), fits nicely into my Rode SM2 Shockmount. It won't go all of the way in, but I wouldn't want it to as that would obscure the knobs. I just curl the USB cord underneath it and set it in there and it works out well. Is this a stage-ready solution? No, because the Yeti is not actually attached to the mount, but it's perfect for stationary desktop boom-arm applications.

All in all, I'd say BUY THIS MIC !!! You probably won't find a better deal than B&H offers either (at least, I couldn't).

I hate wearing headsets, so I keep trying to believe there is such a thing as a good desktop mic that I can use while gaming. Let's just say I'm familiar with the push-to-talk button. This one sounded promising but it is just too sensitive for my intentions.

I have it on cardioid mode with the gain turned all the way down. I have tried it beside my keyboard/mouse and in front of them. The best I can do is turn the mic volume down and keep it right in front of me. I hope moving my computer under the desk will stop or at least lessen the fan sounds.

I believe this mic is really just meant to be used in a quiet isolated recording environment.

If you, like me, are just looking for a desktop mic and your environment will have ANY sounds (clicks, button presses, fans, etc.); this may not be a good choice of microphone. As a desktop mic, it is definitely an improvement over the cheap Logitech one I was using; It's nice to hear some bass/warmth in my voice.

The microphone stops working frequently. I don't know if this is a problem with Skype, the USB cable, or the USB hub I have it connected to. I am looking into this issue. Just thought I should mention it as it happens very frequently. To fix, I simply unplug and replug the microphone.

Comments about Blue Yeti USB Microphone (Silver):

Ok, so I'm an aspiring rapper/singer/song-writer and obviously i needed a mic, well when i was doing my search (with VERY minimal funds) i found the blue yeti...IT SOUNDED GREAT!!! studio quality from your bedroom!??!?! who wouldn't want it!??!?!?! then when i got it, i plugged it in and... it sounded no better than a karaoke mic :(

i thought at first, it was me, i wasn't singing right, but after i got my skills down on pact, adjusted the levels of the mic correctly, and made sure there was no environment noise and everything else the professionals do, and then... it still sounded armature, i still love this mic and all, but im gonna get a new, more professional mic, this mic i think should be used for either communication needs like for Skype and what-not, also, it can be really good for voice-over work or just talking in general.

      in summary though...
If you are a kid wanting to have some fun recording, or a gamer who needs a mic for communication clarity, this is the mic for you!!!
but if you are a musician, singer, rapper, or anything in the musical realm where you need a mic to record, do yourself a BIG FAVOR and go get a professional mic, it'll cost you a little more (the one im looking at to get rn is $300) but isn't that worth it for quality's sake?

Thank You for reading this review! :)
      ~Peace.

Comments about Blue Yeti USB Microphone (Silver):

I use my Yeti to record demo quality audio on my Macbook. I've used it with iMovie and Garage Band. My computer easily recognizes the Yeti as the input and/or output device. The sound quality is better than a Sure 58 but comparably easy to use. The variable polar pattern (or pick-up pattern) is super handy.

I bought a Yeti over a year ago and the mini-usb connector quit working. It costs more to fix than just to buy a new unit. The connector is in a stupid place (under the mic) so it's bound to break. Perhaps the manufacturer is counting on it. I bought a new one so their evil plot is working.

We bought this mic for our pastor for recording a new radio show. The difference between this and our regular microphones was dramatic. Our pastor beamed after using it, he was very impressed with the quality. Having the different settings for mic patterns is helpful while recording interviews. Two people can comfortably use one microphone without feeling awkward in sharing the same space.
We will be using this mic for other purposes as well. It would be nice to purchase the XLR version as well.

I first ran across this mic used for video narration, and it sounded very good. It's not an EV RE20 but still nice.

It's been very good in video conferences. Select the omni mode and put it in the middle of the table, and everyone in the room can be heard.

It really came through for me in a live music recording. I do live sound and have a friend who holds "barn jams". I try to mic all the amps that get put on stage for both the live mix and individual tracks on a recording, but there's always that one player who makes it on stage without getting miced, or who does *not* want his amp miced, or the chimp sound guy who doesn't rec-enable the right track, and something's lost in the recording.

I'd set up a Yeti to record the barn's ambiance, and it turned out that in its stereo mode it gave me a fantastic sonic image of the stage, with the angle of the field just right to reject the main speakers. This allowed me to salvage a recording of a fine guitarist when the afore-mentioned chimp failed to get the correct channel recorded. I've since upgraded to the Yeti Pro for its XLR connectivity.

I use this mic to build eLearning modules, and it works very well. I think the driver that was installed screwed up my Windows 8 audio input and output setup.
