Ask our Experts!

The pinestone Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag from Think Tank is a shooter's bag. With enough space for your standard DSLR with a 24-70mm f/2.8 attached and a 70-200mm f/2.8 by its side, you'll also have enough room left over for your flash and accessories. Plus, there's a rear pocket large enough for your iPad or 11" MacBook Air. The internal dividers can be configured to accommodate the gear you need that day.

Inside, there are two hook and loop nylon pockets that can hold a flash or similar sized item. Outside, under the main flap is another pocket that can hold an additional DSLR body or accessories.

The main flap is secured with hook and loop panels and all the zippers are durable YKK design. Think Tank's unique "Sound Silencers" - panels located under the main flap can be deployed to eliminate the "ripping" sound of the touch fasteners when you need to access the interior. This will come in handy when shooting in quiet venues such as court rooms, golf matches or public relations events.

For business cards, there's a clear interior pocket for extra cards or your ID. An interior zippered organizer pocket can hold your filters, cleaning cloths and other small accessories. Pens, maps and even more stuff can be kept within a second interior storage pocket.

Carrying the Retrospective 7 is easy with its adjustable canvas strap or removable top carry handle. The shoulder strap comes with a cushioned pad that can slid along the strap for optimum positioning. The strap is also supplied with patches of non-slip material to keep it stable while in use. For bad weather, the bag comes with a rain cover that covers the bag but exposes both the shoulder and carry strap.

The Retrospective has been designed to keep you fully equipped and unobtrusive while on the job or just out for a walk with the family. It has a classic design that is subtle, functional and backed by Think Tank's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

Perfectly suited for standard DSLR with a separate pocket for an iPad/11" MacBook Air
The exterior of each Retrospective shoulder bag is purposefully simple, allowing photographers to inconspicuously blend into their shooting environment
Allows you to attach some of Think Tank's optional Modular and Skin gear pouches to increase the capacity of the bag
The "sound silencers" underneath the main flap are used to suppress the loud tearing sound hook-and-loop makes while opening and closing the bag. Simply release the sound silencer panels and cover the hook-and-loop strips to prevent the hook-and-loop from contacting
A clear business card pocket, for identification and spare cards, is located under the main flap
A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into each Retrospective 7. For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning. Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder
Removable carrying handle for convenience
The seam-sealed rain cover included with the Retrospective 7 was specially designed to keep the carrying handle and integrated shoulder strap outside the rain cover without compromising protection from the elements
Within the Retrospective's main compartment, are two collapsible nylon pockets (one on each side). These pockets are tall enough to fit most flash units or other accessories. A hook-and-loop strap can be used to secure the contents or it can be tucked into the pocket for quicker access
Zippered organizer pocket inside the main compartment. It gives photographers enough space for small, but significant, accessories necessary for a successful shoot
A second interior pocket holds pens, maps, additional business cards and has a convenient hook and loop closure
Lift up the main flap to reveal a spacious exterior pocket. This pocket is large enough to carry a DSLR body or a number of other accessories
Hook-and-loop panels securely fastens the main flap down, keeping valuable photo equipment hidden from view
Removable divider set for custom layouts; high-quality YKK zippers
Compatibility
One standard-size DSLR with 2-3 lenses and accessories. iPad/11" MacBook Air fits in rear zippered pocket
Accommodates a pro DSLR with 24-70mm f/2.8 attached, 70-200mm f/2.8 detached and flash
The softness and flexibility of the Retrospective 7 easily allows a pro size DSLR to be carried in the main compartment with a lens attached, facing downward

I have so many camera bags and backpacks, I felt guilty buying another one. But this one fills a special need: When I'm traveling, especially in a country where I feel a bit conspicuous by my height or color or lack of linguistic facility, how can I avoid looking even more out of place? Answer - a camera bag that does not look like a camera bag, that can also carry a day's essentials for walking around. That means, money, credit cards, keys, sunglasses, water bottle, phone, on and on. The camera still has plenty of room, is well protected, and I can also stuff in another lens or flash or maybe both. There's one padded pocket that fits an iPad perfectly. It's all very well made, has a tough padded shoulder strap, and is fairly secure against pickpockets provided the user is diligent about keeping the interior pockets and flap closed.

It does the job, but not elegant enough.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

Not to big, not to small, perfect size for traveling. Well constructed from durable but soft canvas. Shoulder strap is very comfortable and includes vinyl strips to prevent slippage.
Lots of pockets including rear, well cushioned pocket which easily holds my Samsung 10.5" Galaxy Tab S tablet. The Velcro silencers are a great feature as is the separate carrying handle.
Below is a picture illustrating the amount of equipment that easily fits in the bag and includes: Nikon D7100 body with Sigma 18-300mm lens attached, Sigma 8-16mm lens, Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art Lens, Nikon SB-800 Speed light, Samsung 10.5" tablet, SDHC card case, Polarizing filters.
Overall a well designed, well made camera bag.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

It has ample room inside for a DSLR and two lenses. It also has a side pocket for an iPad. It has two small side pockets and another one almost as big as the one for the iPad. It has a shoulder strap with a well cushioned shoulder pad and a handle as well. It comes with a rain cover. It looks elegant and does not look like a typical camera bag which is a plus for traveling. The silencer is a clever way to mute the velcro sound when you open it.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Black):

I only have the bag a for a week, but so far so good, the bag appears to be the right size for my needs, one mirrorless body and 4 lenses, plus extra batteries charger, memory cards, table tripod and other bits and pieces. The shoulder strap is nicely padded, it also comes with a briefcase type strap that can be removed (which I did). Rain coat on a removable bag, along with multiple extra pockets to secure smaller items inside the bag, a nice internal packet for my iPod mini. All this and there should still be enough room for a second mirrorless body. The bag is nicely padded everywhere and you can tell that a lot of thought went into designing this bag, but this is to be expected from a bag at this price point. Being able to fit all on a bag that can be your personal item on a fly and will fit under the seat on front of you on a plane, what else can you ask for?

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

This bag is classy. I've gone back to shooting all primes and the Retrospective 7 fits all my gear, an ipad Air 2, and then some. I'm a small woman and always have issues finding a bag that accommodates my gear without being too heavy or too bulky which means I own about a million camera bags. My only complaint with this bag is there's not a latch on the front to make it more secure when using the velcro silencers. To remedy that to the best of my ability, I fold the flaps over the velcro about 3/4 down. That way, part of the velcro still sticks and provides security, but I'm not using the whole patch -which is extremely loud. Hence the 4 stars.

The Think Tank Retrospective 7 is the perfect size for my Fujifilm X cameras and lenses. Not too big but not too small either. Perfect for travel and everyday use. The bag is well made and comes with a rain cover. I also like that it will accommodate my IPad. The sound silencer for the Velcro flap comes in handy when you don't want to cause a distraction. I would highly recommend this bag for CSC cameras or a small DSLR kit.

I purchased this bag for a trip to Europe. After experimenting with numerous different camera bags, I finally found one that was convenient to carry, access, and manage. The bag is well-designed with easy access to necessary equipment.I had plenty of room for my DSLR with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens and external strobe along with room for miscellaneous items to carry while being a tourist. Easily fits an iPad mini and would likewise do well with a regular sized iPad.Would be perfect if it had a place to attach my tripod.Would definitely recommend for those looking for a convenient inconspicuous camera bag.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

I use Retrospective 7 bag to carry a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 24-120mm f/4.0 FX lens attached to the camera with the lens hood extended, an iPad mini, and a few small accessories. This leaves a good deal of space left over to carry small purchases, etc. It is my second. I use a Retrospective 20 to carry a Nikon D810 and four lenses, the largest of which is a Nikon 70-200mm f/4.0, which fits with the lens attached to the camera and the lens hood extended. When a lens is not attached to the camera, I prefer to keep the lens in a Nikon lens case (which is similar to a woolen sock) because these bags don't hold lenses snug. The bags work well, it is easy to get the camera in and out, and they allow relatively safe lens changes. If you wear jeans, expect some indigo to rub off on the shoulder bag making one side bluish. If this is a issue for you, then I suggest buying the blue or the black bag instead. I like pinestone because it looks less like a camera bag than the blue or black. For that I'll put up with a bluish tinge on one side.

perfect size travel bag for when you just need to pack you camera body and a couple of lenses or flash. I love this discreet bag because it doesn't scream "I have a camera here"

I have had my share of camera bags in the past. This Retrospective 7 could very well be my last. That is unless Think Tank themselves revises it and makes it shockingly appealing which I believe would be hard to do. It's hardy but not heavy, functional but not gadgety, spacious but not bulky. I currently carry a pro body camera, speedlite, and two lenses and there's ample room for another lens or speedlite. The shoulder strap distributes the weight so that you forget you're carrying as much as you are, making street photography or the occasional photo walk tremendously easier. I don't like spending a bad penny so I'm so relieved after buying this bag since it meets and exceeds my expectations.

A comfortable, well made bag. Problem for me was it just wasn't quite roomy enough in the right places . Laptop compartment ( On outside back) was just big enough to fit an old ipad in its case. So that was a tight fit. Also this bag is to carry Fuji mirror keeps cam and lens, and there is more camera space than needed for that. Retrospective 5 is ideal size for that camera system, but cannot accomodate an ipad

Was looking for a thin lens bag that can accommodate 70-200 and a few batteries. I landed on this one, but it is still unnecessarily wide.
It does the job, but not elegant enough.

I use this to carry a d610 with either a 24-70 or 28-300 mounted. I carry along other small essential items for a great walk a around day bag. It is unobtrusive and has a nice look I feel very comfortable on the street. Yes you could fit a lot more into this bag but I try to keep the weight within reason. Thanks B&H for providing fast efficient service.

Love this bag. It's the perfect size for me to carry around at a wedding or assignment. It has plenty of space without being too big or bulky. I usually carry a speed light and three lenses in it. I like that it's tall enough to fit a 70-200 with the lens hood on.
