Ask our Experts!

The blue slate Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag from Think Tank is a shooter's bag. With enough space for your standard DSLR with a 24-70mm f/2.8 attached and a 70-200mm f/2.8 by its side, you'll also have enough room left over for your flash and accessories. Plus, there's a rear pocket large enough for your iPad or 11" MacBook Air. The internal dividers can be configured to accommodate the gear you need that day.

Inside, there are two hook and loop nylon pockets that can hold a flash or similar sized item. Outside, under the main flap is another pocket that can hold an additional DSLR body or accessories.

The main flap is secured with hook and loop panels and all the zippers are durable YKK design. Think Tank's unique "Sound Silencers" - panels located under the main flap can be deployed to eliminate the "ripping" sound of the touch fasteners when you need to access the interior. This will come in handy when shooting in quiet venues such as court rooms, golf matches or public relations events.

For business cards, there's a clear interior pocket for extra cards or your ID. An interior zippered organizer pocket can hold your filters, cleaning cloths and other small accessories. Pens, maps and even more stuff can be kept within a second interior storage pocket.

Carrying the Retrospective 7 is easy with its adjustable canvas strap or removable top carry handle. The shoulder strap comes with a cushioned pad that can slid along the strap for optimum positioning. The strap is also supplied with patches of non-slip material to keep it stable while in use. For bad weather, the bag comes with a rain cover that covers the bag but exposes both the shoulder and carry strap.

The Retrospective has been designed to keep you fully equipped and unobtrusive while on the job or just out for a walk with the family. It has a classic design that is subtle, functional and backed by Think Tank's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

Perfectly suited for standard DSLR with a separate pocket for an iPad/11" MacBook Air
The exterior of each Retrospective shoulder bag is purposefully simple, allowing photographers to inconspicuously blend into their shooting environment
Allows you to attach some of Think Tank's optional Modular and Skin gear pouches to increase the capacity of the bag
The "sound silencers" underneath the main flap are used to suppress the loud tearing sound hook-and-loop makes while opening and closing the bag. Simply release the sound silencer panels and cover the hook-and-loop strips to prevent the hook-and-loop from contacting
A clear business card pocket, for identification and spare cards, is located under the main flap
A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into each Retrospective 7. For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning. Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder
Removable carrying handle for convenience
The seam-sealed rain cover included with the Retrospective 7 was specially designed to keep the carrying handle and integrated shoulder strap outside the rain cover without compromising protection from the elements
Within the Retrospective's main compartment, are two collapsible nylon pockets (one on each side). These pockets are tall enough to fit most flash units or other accessories. A hook-and-loop strap can be used to secure the contents or it can be tucked into the pocket for quicker access
Zippered organizer pocket inside the main compartment. It gives photographers enough space for small, but significant, accessories necessary for a successful shoot
A second interior pocket holds pens, maps, additional business cards and has a convenient hook and loop closure
Lift up the main flap to reveal a spacious exterior pocket. This pocket is large enough to carry a DSLR body or a number of other accessories
Hook-and-loop panels securely fastens the main flap down, keeping valuable photo equipment hidden from view
Removable divider set for custom layouts; high-quality YKK zippers
Compatibility
One standard-size DSLR with 2-3 lenses and accessories. iPad/11" MacBook Air fits in rear zippered pocket
Accommodates a pro DSLR with 24-70mm f/2.8 attached, 70-200mm f/2.8 detached and flash
The softness and flexibility of the Retrospective 7 easily allows a pro size DSLR to be carried in the main compartment with a lens attached, facing downward

This bag suits my needs very well. I mainly bought it for travelling. I always opt for the lowest possible carry-weight, combined with quality and style. I have a Fujifilm X-pro1 with lenses which fits like a charm, however recently I've been bringing my favourite gem, the amazing and even smaller Sony RX1. Either way both setups leaves plenty of room for my other travel-essentials, chargers, iPhone, iPad, waterbottle, a snack, scarf/gloves (in winter) and a book without breaking a sweat. Photographers packing a DSLR-kit should also be able to find joy with this bag, albeit leaving less room for non-photographic equipent. In short, due to the small size of my equipment, this bag serves me as a compact, lightweight, high-end multipurpose camera bag. It's very well made and if the size fits your needs I doubt you'll be disappointed. As an even more lightweight, discreet daybag for long days of sightseeing, bringing the camera with me to work etc, I even bought the Retrospective 5, which is excellent when you don't need to bring much other than your camera and maybe some lenses. It is possible to fit an iPad mini in the '5 front pocket! Both the 7 and 5 are bags that can end your "baglust" Highly recommended. Also, shopping with B&H is always a good experience, great customer service.

It does the job, but not elegant enough.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

This bag is classy. I've gone back to shooting all primes and the Retrospective 7 fits all my gear, an ipad Air 2, and then some. I'm a small woman and always have issues finding a bag that accommodates my gear without being too heavy or too bulky which means I own about a million camera bags. My only complaint with this bag is there's not a latch on the front to make it more secure when using the velcro silencers. To remedy that to the best of my ability, I fold the flaps over the velcro about 3/4 down. That way, part of the velcro still sticks and provides security, but I'm not using the whole patch -which is extremely loud. Hence the 4 stars.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

I just received the subject bag....for years I tried to avoid a real camera bag....using just a small case, while traveling either on fishing trips to Fla. And Costa Rica, or traveling to Europe with my wife. I never had the right stuff. This Think Tank bag is perfect to carry two cameras and necessary lens.....

It is easy to store all equipment that I carry....

          Thank you Think Tank....

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

The Think Tank Retrospective 7 is the perfect size for my Fujifilm X cameras and lenses. Not too big but not too small either. Perfect for travel and everyday use. The bag is well made and comes with a rain cover. I also like that it will accommodate my IPad. The sound silencer for the Velcro flap comes in handy when you don't want to cause a distraction. I would highly recommend this bag for CSC cameras or a small DSLR kit.

I purchased this bag for a trip to Europe. After experimenting with numerous different camera bags, I finally found one that was convenient to carry, access, and manage. The bag is well-designed with easy access to necessary equipment.I had plenty of room for my DSLR with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens and external strobe along with room for miscellaneous items to carry while being a tourist. Easily fits an iPad mini and would likewise do well with a regular sized iPad.Would be perfect if it had a place to attach my tripod.Would definitely recommend for those looking for a convenient inconspicuous camera bag.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

I use Retrospective 7 bag to carry a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 24-120mm f/4.0 FX lens attached to the camera with the lens hood extended, an iPad mini, and a few small accessories. This leaves a good deal of space left over to carry small purchases, etc. It is my second. I use a Retrospective 20 to carry a Nikon D810 and four lenses, the largest of which is a Nikon 70-200mm f/4.0, which fits with the lens attached to the camera and the lens hood extended. When a lens is not attached to the camera, I prefer to keep the lens in a Nikon lens case (which is similar to a woolen sock) because these bags don't hold lenses snug. The bags work well, it is easy to get the camera in and out, and they allow relatively safe lens changes. If you wear jeans, expect some indigo to rub off on the shoulder bag making one side bluish. If this is a issue for you, then I suggest buying the blue or the black bag instead. I like pinestone because it looks less like a camera bag than the blue or black. For that I'll put up with a bluish tinge on one side.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Black):

I have had my share of camera bags in the past. This Retrospective 7 could very well be my last. That is unless Think Tank themselves revises it and makes it shockingly appealing which I believe would be hard to do. It's hardy but not heavy, functional but not gadgety, spacious but not bulky. I currently carry a pro body camera, speedlite, and two lenses and there's ample room for another lens or speedlite. The shoulder strap distributes the weight so that you forget you're carrying as much as you are, making street photography or the occasional photo walk tremendously easier. I don't like spending a bad penny so I'm so relieved after buying this bag since it meets and exceeds my expectations.

A comfortable, well made bag. Problem for me was it just wasn't quite roomy enough in the right places . Laptop compartment ( On outside back) was just big enough to fit an old ipad in its case. So that was a tight fit. Also this bag is to carry Fuji mirror keeps cam and lens, and there is more camera space than needed for that. Retrospective 5 is ideal size for that camera system, but cannot accomodate an ipad

I have so many camera bags and backpacks, I felt guilty buying another one. But this one fills a special need: When I'm traveling, especially in a country where I feel a bit conspicuous by my height or color or lack of linguistic facility, how can I avoid looking even more out of place? Answer - a camera bag that does not look like a camera bag, that can also carry a day's essentials for walking around. That means, money, credit cards, keys, sunglasses, water bottle, phone, on and on. The camera still has plenty of room, is well protected, and I can also stuff in another lens or flash or maybe both. There's one padded pocket that fits an iPad perfectly. It's all very well made, has a tough padded shoulder strap, and is fairly secure against pickpockets provided the user is diligent about keeping the interior pockets and flap closed.

It is unobtrusive and has a nice look I feel very comfortable on the street. Yes you could fit a lot more into this bag but I try to keep the weight within reason. Love this bag. It's the perfect size for me to carry around at a wedding or assignment. It has plenty of space without being too big or bulky. I usually carry a speed light and three lenses in it. I like that it's tall enough to fit a 70-200 with the lens hood on.

Haven't got a chance to use it much yet, but I really like this bag a lot after checking it out. Excellent built and quality, yet not too heavy. Good size for DSLR. I do wish the silent mode has a magnet to keep the bag close.

I had the Retrospective 30 for my dslr gear but sold it when I went mirror less. I've just ordered the 7 because these are simply, imho, the very best camera bags out there, bar none. All Think Tank products are excellent but the Retrospective line is amazing. These are well thought out bags, hold WAY more than you'd expect, have good features and they look great. And not only that but the material wears like iron. Plus, when you are on the street or traveling they don't scream CAMERA!!! I've tried bags from a number of manufacturers but I've not found any that I like as much as Think Tank. This is the third one I currently own but it is the sixth I've bought.

I'm a video shooter that occasionally shoots stills. This bag is perfect as an everyday bag for your minimalist kit for the essential gear. I carry a dslr with a 24-105 attached, the 50 f1.8, and the Rokinon 35 mm cine. Along with a viewfinder attachment, a GoPro, ND filters, moleskine notebook, and an iPad! Crazy awesome storage in this thing. No more tacky camera bags with giant logos that say "Hey, I'm a camera bag! Expensive gear inside!" Also haven't mentioned the weather cover. I trudged around NYC's polar vortex with that baby on and kept everything protected. Sweet bag.

Comments about Retrospective 7 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone):

This bag really does live up to all of the positive comments everyone else has shared about it. I am an amateur photographer that likes to carry my Nikon D7000 with a 24-70mm lens attached everywhere I go. This bag replaced the backpack I used for daily use to carry my personal belongings as well as allowing me to bring all my necessary camera equipment with me. I bring my camera w/lens attached, my Tamaron 18-270, my Nikon 50MM, flash, a variety of filters, etc and my Macbook Pro 13" with all of my daily needs stuff in one compact and stylish bag. Note: the Macbook Pro fits in the sleeve assigned for an 11" iPad but the zipper does not close completely. Still the computer is secure enough to travel and works ideal as a carry on for the plane. I also carry two external hard drives with me and feel like I might still have room to spare. The bag is high quality and super comfortable to wear even with heavy loads. The organization pockets are well thought out and super functional. The rain cover is a nice touch and it feels as if this bag could do it all. I am extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend this product and other products from this company to anyone. Side note, while traveling this past weekend I was approached by a professional photographer who stated he also uses the same bag and absolutely loves it.
