It does what I need it to do, which is to allow me to switch to vertical without having to make major adjustments to the tripod head. Being a generic item rather than one specifically made for my Nikon D300s, it was not possible to get the camera completely equally aligned in both directions, but if I'm switching from horizontal to vertical I will probably want to make slight adjustments in the position of the tripod head anyway. It is certainly FAR preferable to what I had to do without it -- tilting the tripod head over to the side and having everything out of balance.
A small level that works in the vertical position is a nice touch, as long as the camera is well-aligned within the bracket.
On my D300s it blocks the battery door, but since I can take several hundred shots without changing the battery it is not a big problem in practice.
It's rather big and heavy, once again a result of being designed to fit many different cameras.
It needs an allen wrench to attach it to the camera, but one is supplied and there is a slot on the bracket to store it. It seems a bit loose, though, and could possibly fall out.

I contacted a sales rep at B&H asking for help on an L bracket for my Nikon D800 paired with Manfrotto 496RC2 ballhead. Before purchasing, I thought this bracket was extremely pricey- almost just as much as my tripod ballhead and legs combined! But, I gave it a shot because L brackets are very useful for landscape photographers. Once I received it, I was impressed by the durability, seemed hard and sturdy as a rock! After reading the instructions and begining to attach the bracket, I noticed its not working out. (Keep in mind this is for a Nikon D800 w/o battery grip.) The bottom lined up perfectly but the side wouldn't allign perfectly. After extended the lower mount bracket, there was not enough threads to press against the body as extra suppert. So I mounted it on my tripod with just the bottom of the bracket in the propper place. It shot just fine, but for $, this is not okay. Also keep in mind, I could not access the battery door at all while mounted to the bracket. I will deal with breaking my back and turning my ballhead sideways for vertical photos.

So far so good. Nice firm fit on both my mono and tri. Fits pretty good on my Nikon D800. Was about my only option short of changing both my ball heads. Wish it came with a padded storage bag.

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

In order to create "Portrait oriented" Panorama images I bought this device to eliminate the need to "flop" the panorama head 90 degrees - and lose the 360 level.
Yes, there are panorama heads out there that do such things, but they are pricey. This unit interfaces with my pan-head nicely and saves a bunch of $$$.
Works well on my Canon cameras - even with the remote shutter release attached - with battery extenders.

I started to use this L bracket in the last week for a couple of Canon cameras, with and without the battery grips. This bracket easily works for both and can be adjusted so the the lens in the same relative position to the tripods in both the horizontal and vertical orientations. Other brackets are customize for specific camera models.

I purchased this to help center my camera over my tripod in the vertical position for taking panoramas. I've not yet used it in the field, but it was relatively easy to get set up. I appreciate the quick release plates on each side of the bracket. The bracket does add to the bulk of the camera, which is why I will only attach it if I'm planning on shooting panoramas.

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

An L bracket makes turning you camera from shooting in landscape mode to shooting in portrait mode a breeze. C of G of camera stays over the top of the tripod. I only wish I'd done this years ago instead of wrestling with the head turend right over making the balance of the camera on the tripod precarious.
Only drawback of the Manfrotto model is that it is generic: designed to be fitted to (rather than a good fit for) any SLR. I had to purchase an IR trigger release because the cable release cannot be mounted on my EOS 5DIII with the L bracket in place.

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

I found it awkward trying to switch from horizontal to vertical using a ball head. I tried others too that didn't do what I wanted. I was watching a Joel Grimes tutorial and saw he was using an L bracket. Couldn't tell which one though. Researched the topic an found many very expensive options. So I looked at the maker of all my rock solid tripods, lightstands, arms - Manfrotto. Turns out they have this L bracket. Some reviews said it didn't fit their cameras right. For me it fits all my Nikon cameras perfectly and is completely adjustable and easy to use. Certainly a bonus is that it fits all my quick release heads.. Now in the studio or the field my horizontal to vertical problem is solved. As usual it is very heavy duty - only this time made out of magnesium so it is quite light by comparison. But heavy duty and I'm sure will last with all my other manfrotto gear.. I'm very pleased.

The Q2 l-bracket has made changing to vertical format so much easier and quicker on my tripod. The switch on the monopod took some practice. (a 3rd hand would have helped) The set up was easy. It's so light, I don't even notice it when carrying the tripod.

I use an 055ProB Manfrotto tripod and the match is excellent. The setup is easy but a little fiddly. I use mine with my Nikon D700 and D300 with battery grips, no problems at all. Once positioned the bracket acts as a handy little carrying device.Only issue would be the mounting plates have allen key nut rather than finger adjustable wing nuts like other manfrotto mounting plate. Can't believe it took me this long to get one!

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

Great for shooting Verticals. Heavy Duty. Built like a Tank.

Love the quick flip use of the Bracket from Horizontal to Vertical.

My only con is that coupled with my Manfrotto Tripod the Bracket is opposite of the tilt of the head on my tripod. I can tilt side to side but not UP and Down. To compensate for this I readjust the legs on my tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

I was looking for something to help me in my travel photography. I called B&H and spoke with the sales department. He found outs which tripod I was using and then he suggested the Q2 L Bracket. I have used it to my complete satisfaction and am very pleased with the purchase, as I have been with all of my dealings with B&H.

I bought this to use on a camera that doesn't have a battery pack. I thought it would imitate what you can do with a really right stuff bracket. It was pretty big and very generic. For some people this might be a great accessory for me it was way to big and would block all the ports on the side of the camera.

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

Unless you use a pro sized body or have an add on grip on your camera, it will be impossible to center the lens both vertically and horizontally as shown in the mounting directions. That means moving the tripod head slightly when changing shot orientation. I contacted Manfrotto, and was told it was a universal bracket that isn't fully compatible with my camera, a Nikon D7000. If they included a simple riser that would make their "universal" design truly universal. Acces doors on side of camera blocked by solid bar design.

Comments about Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket:

allows turning heavy cameras 90 degrees without torquing.
adjustable to fit many SLR cameras.
rotation keeps lens axis very close in both positions.
only problem is on D800 the battery door is blocked
and bracket must be loosened and slid sideways, but not removed - a minor inconvenience.
