Once again proving their excellence in the realm of home theater equipment, the TX-NR818 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver from Onkyo is a receiver that easily provides both high performance and versatility. The TX-NR818 offers premium A/V processing, Blu-ray and 3D content compatibility and an array of connections to accommodate both legacy and advanced equipment.
This receiver has a dual-core video engine design that employs an HQV Vida VHD1900 processor that handles upscaling of your analog content to 1080p. And if you have full HD content that you want to take to digital theater-level 4K resolution, the integrated Marvell Qdeo technology takes over from there. So no matter what video quality you're working with, this receiver ensures superior quality and smooth, accurate picture quality. Another technology at work is ISF, which calibrates video from any of the inputs to industry standards.
Possessing a THX Select2 Plus certification, this receiver offers superb audio processing as well. It has 3-stage inverted Darlington circuitry with 192kHz/24-bit DACs. Of course, it has a bevy of interfaces to incorporate all your devices into your home theater setup. These include eight HDMI version 1.4a, which supports 3D content and an Audio Return Channel for convenience. These HDMI inputs have what's called Mobile High Definition Link, so if you have a compatible smartphone you can connect it to enjoy 1080p video on your HDTV. Two HDMI outputs allow you to output video to an external monitor. Equipped with two USB ports, the receiver lets you connect your iPod or iPhone for additional choices. It's able to connect to a home network, either through a wired connection or wirelessly with the purchase of Onkyo's LAN adapter.
Rounding out its excellent feature set is support for advanced audio formats Audyssey DSX, DTS Neo:X and Dolby Pro Logic IIz to take your home theater experience to new heights. With integrated Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room correction, fine tuning of your sound based on unique characteristics of your listening environment takes place. Onkyo has also included InstaPrevue technology, which lets you see your inputs in a picture-in-picture scenario for easy switching of sources. Additional features include digital crossover processing, front channel bi-amping capability, and three-zone audio distribution. In so many ways, this A/V receiver rises above its competition to deliver some of the best sights and sounds available for your home theater.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR818 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver:
Still trial and error with this new A/V receiver for me. Produces huge sound with all forms of components. It would be nice if it came with a hard copy of the manual for easier reference.
Comments about Onkyo TX-NR818 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver:
I was watching this receiver for quite awhile a got a great deal on this through a slickdeals post. I had to call to get the best price, service was great, easy, and quick delivery.
I am using the receiver in a 2.1 setup now until I can buildout the rest of the system. I have had several other onkyos and have had good experiences with all of them, I expect the same with this unit

I replaced my old feeble Marantz SR6400 AV receiver with this excellent Onkyo TX-NR818 AV receiver and I could not be more pleased. I am enjoying the solid response and the open smooth sound stage delivered by this powerhouse amp. I have used the bi-amp connections for my front speakers and they have come to life again. This is my first Onkyo but you can be sure it will not be my last!

Got this for Christmas to replace my old Onkyo as that did not have network capablility.
As soon as I configured it with Aduessy EQ I could hear the difference. Enjoyed the Blu-Ray movieed in the best sound. Amused teh firends over the Christmas Party.Got a external USB to connect to my wireless router. Could play some internet stations and also the songs on the computers on home network. Did not try the 9.1 option , but configured only for 7.1. Still it sounds great. The manual is not printed, but comes on a CD. the remote takes some time to understand. Other than that it is a breeze to set it up. I have not checked the video upscale capability.Try different sound options to suit your taste.

This receiver is just fine for my use in my Audio-Video set-up. The company gives wonderfully responsive help in setting the receiver to accommadate Cable, DVD, Laptop HDMI,old VCR and Laser Disc. My only disappointment was that it would only use 7 of my 9 installed speakers. I should have gotten the larger receiver.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR818 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver:
Very happy with this purchase. I replaced an older Onkyo with this one. Very easy to setup:
1- connected to a wired ethernet then updated the firmware (in the start-up tell it to skip the Audyssey room correction the first time and then it will ask if you want to update firmware). This process did take a long time and I had to update more than one time (update then restart machine then update again) It doesn't tell you this but once the update is done you need to turn the machine off/on to restart the firmware.
2- plugged in the included Audyssey MultEQ XT32 Room Correction microphone(attached to a camera tripod)and the receiver automaticaly adjusts speaker output/settings for you.
I thought the sound on my old receiver was good but I never knew what I was missing. The surround sound is absolutely amazing and the receiver automatically converts my cable box from 1080i to 1080p (it also coverts dvds to 1080p if your blu ray player doesn't). I also like that you can connect your iphone(or other brand)to the usb in the front and your songs show up on a menu on the tv screen... and out comes beautiful surround sound.
Finally, make sure you measure the cabinet where this going as it is very tall.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR818 7.2 Channel Network A/V Receiver:
The XT32 is good. i can hear more details now, compared to my Pioneer MCACC. However, it lacks a couple of features.. like "complete dark setting for VFD", and "different memory setting".
Overall, it is great value if you bought it during black Friday. IP control is nice and be able to play music from my NAS using my iphone and not be able to turn on TV is a big plus.
