The iStudio iS202 Professional iPad Docking Station With Audio, Video & Midi Connectivity from Behringer is a versatile music production tool for both home studio and live recording; use it to create, produce and perform music using your favorite audio gear and musical instruments. The iStudio has two phantom-powered mic/line inputs (one switchable for Hi-Z inputs like electric guitar or bass, no DI required), so you can use studio-grade condenser mics to achieve professional results. Of course, your iPad is powered and charging whenever it's docked.

The iStudio lets you access the iPad's powerful internal processor, touchscreen interface and available apps. With the iStudio and your iPad, you can record, perform, or create music in virtually any situation or location. A convenient onboard MIDI USB interface allows transfer of MIDI data to and from your iPad for even more creative possibilities. The iStudio bridges the gap between your instruments and professional audio devices, creating a dynamically creative environment that will continue to grow as more apps are released.

The iStudio has two combinations XLR - 1/4" inputs, each with its own gain control and switchable phantom power for use with condenser microphones. These inputs accept analog signals from virtually any piece of audio gear including amps, mixers and external preamps. A guitar or electric bass can be connected directly to the iStudio thanks to the built-in Hi-Z switch - so you can play, perform and record straight into an amplifier - and FX- modeling apps. Plus there's a stereo auxiliary input that lets you connect a wide range of line level sources, even a turntable perfect for DJs or for archiving a vinyl collection.

To get started, connect your mixer's outputs to the iStudio, simply open a recording app and hit a button. The iStudio's MIDI capability can be used to control external keyboards, samplers, drum machines and sound modules.

The Behringer iStudio contains balanced stereo 1/4" TRS outputs for connecting to your studio monitors, PA systems and more. Musicians can monitor tracks via dual independently controllable phones outputs, equipped with adjustable direct monitoring controls for the ideal balance between incoming and playback signals. Two footswitch connectors are available for application-defined remote control of input selection and an expression pedal. If video is part of your production, iStudio's RCA composite video connector works with all standard video projectors, as well as most TVs and computer monitors.

Comments about Behringer iStudio iS202 Professional iPad Docking Station With Audio, Video & Midi Connectivity:

Behringer is well-known for bad quality. But usually I don't much trust to the popular belief. Especially because things tend to change over time. However, as it turned out, not in their case. So, we have a black plastic box with some inputs and outputs, quite bulky, but the iPad in it perfectly charging (wow!) and has protection against accidental disconnection as could happen with the camera connection kit. Synchronization via midi is stable and it supports SysEx - should pay tribute, the device has no worthy competitors at the moment. But all those shiny benefits defaced by one, not noticeable at first glance detail - unhealthy digital crackling in specific apps.Behringer iStudio iS202 produces obscene crackling from all of its outputs in most applications where external input is used. Quite shamelessly exudes sonic artifacts in Audiobus, JamUp Pro, Amplitube, Sugar Bytes Turnado, Live Fx, Yellofier, Samplr ... and I'm sure the list of applications is not limited. And this is not just a clipping problem - this crackling audible at the most quiet signal, as well as its complete absence in the input. I was going to use the iPad mainly as an fx-processor, but in this case this is impossible. That noise is also well noticeable in Animoog when notes fade.I don't know what it is - poorly designed construction, cheap low-quality components, the problem of firmware or all in one. But nothing like this has happened with the iPad itself, nor with other interfaces connected via camera connection kit.Support tried to assure me that this problem is not common to all devices, and recommended to make the replacement. It's hard to believe after I swapped 3(!) units and each of them had the same problem. As a result - the time spent on correspondence with tech support, trips to the store for replacement, wasted money and absolute frustration. For myself I've decided not to deal with Behringer anymore, but I still recommend iStudio iS202 if you have nowhere to put $[$] or suddenly need to buy an artsy charger for iPad.

Comments about Behringer iStudio iS202 Professional iPad Docking Station With Audio, Video & Midi Connectivity:

I use this dock primarily because it gives me MIDI jacks and has built in charging for my iPad 2. So far I have no complaints. I've used the audio out and MIDI connectors and they work flawlessly from what I can tell. The dock itself has rubber feet that just-so-happen to align perfectly with the top of my Roland keyboard so I can perch it there when I play live music. I use it to scroll my chord sheets/lyrics and change my keyboard settings via MIDI for each song (Setlist Maker app is very useful).

I haven't used any of the other input/output jacks but the knobs and buttons seem to function well. My only complaint would be that the finish is black lacquered plastic and is prone to smudge easily. In fact the unit I received looked to be new in the box, but had a smears all over it like someone tried to clean it with a chemical. I was able to shine it up with a clean rag though.

I was weighing this device against the Alesis dock, and read that there were functional problems with that device. Functionally, I have no complaints with the Behringer, totally worth the money.

Comments about Behringer iStudio iS202 Professional iPad Docking Station With Audio, Video & Midi Connectivity:

For the price, it's amazing how much functionality Behringer delivers here. Full audio I/O with proper gain knobs, a decent amount of headroom, Neutrik connectors (with phantom power for mics and both line and instrument level settings). MIDI I/O including SysEx compatibility, expression pedal input... even a turntable input with proper impedance and grounding. All of this in a chassis that will support iPad 1, 2, or 3 (the 2 and 3 with a spacer insert, included) and it runs on AC adaptor (also included) or 8 AA batteries.

It's maybe a touch bulky (compared with the competing Alesis product) but there's more functionality. And when the iPad is docked, some video apps/websites (YouTube in particular) assume video should be routed to the video out, even if there is no cable attached to the video out, but there's probably no way that connection could be detected. These are the only tiny complaints re: an otherwise very powerful tool at a VERY reasonable price.

Comments about Behringer iStudio iS202 Professional iPad Docking Station With Audio, Video & Midi Connectivity:

I've been waiting for this for a long time, and it is finally here... and worth the wait. Virtually no learning curve at all! It serves my purposes better than expected. I am using the iS202 to record keyboard, vocal and guitar tracks, using Multitrack DAW as my app. The process is easy, and the sound is awesome. It took me awhile to get used to panning from input to iPad to hear the audio (when recording vs. listening back), but no biggie. Love the mixdown options, and the capability of emailing tracks straight to myself to access on my computer, in m4a or ogg at whatever sampling rate I desire. For quick, simple to use, great sounding recordings, this is a dream come true.
