First of all, I have 40 plus years of semi-pro photography work experience. I also have a degree in Computers. I have years of experience in building Computers and servicing them. Several years of programming various software platforms including Adobe Products.
I have used this scanner for all of the intended purposes. I find it to be an excellent and well designed item. The camera used in this unit is manufactured by a company (Zoran Corporation) that makes high end items. It states that it is a 14 MP camera in the unit. I have confirmed that it is indeed a 14 MP Plus camera. Some reviews have stated that it is 1 or 2 MP which demonstrates a lack of the proper software on their system, or a lack of knowledge of how to ascertain the MP setting of the conversions from the scanner. All scans vary from 13 to 14 plus MP snapshots. I would suggest, that if the unit you receive appears to not produce high quality snapshots, or out of focus snapshots, that you request an RMA for that system. Occasionally, things go wrong in the manufacturing process and a unit is shipped that does not work properly. The first unit I received had an intermittent light source when in the photo position. I was up against a deadline to scan hundreds of slides and photos for an album. This album was for a family reunion that was only a couple of weeks away. B&H Photo & Video sent me an RMA within hours after my request. I went online and ordered another unit with expedited shipping and a credit was received within days of my returned defective item being received. Their Customer Service department was one of the best I have ever worked with. This unit produces a very good snapshot of the items presented to it. It works very well for all size of photos, 35 MM slides and Color and B&W film strips. All snapshots are of good quality under some extreme and varying contrasts and color shifts. The snapshots are easily adjusted with software such as Picasa-3 by Google which is free or FastStone Image Viewer which is also free. FastStone is software that is one of my favorites and rivals Adobe Photoshop in its ability to manipulate photos. Another contender is Serif PhotoPlus SE Pro that you must purchase. It is much less than Adobe products and in my opinion is better software and easier to use. I have all of these products and use them daily.
Here are a few things to take into consideration when viewing your scans (snapshots) on your computer. I have 3 monitors on my system which includes one AOC HD 24 inch monitor that is less than a year old. I have a second and less costly 23.5 inch Acer monitor just over a year old and I also drive a 36 inch HDMI HD TV with my computer. The video card has lots of horsepower to drive all of these items. As I view my scans (snapshots) on each device I find a huge difference in sharpness hue, and saturation of the colors. All items are calibrated with the exception of the HDMI TV. Both monitors are well over $300 each and have fantastic specs. The thing that I wish to point out here is that your monitor can cause you slides to look completely off color and vary in contrast from monitor to monitor. The HD TV appears to be the best for viewing items although I do not run it for that purpose often.

I have a neighbor that purchased the same scanner from another source. He came over yesterday complaining that his scans were awful. He assured me that his slides were perfect and in sharp focus. That the scanner was doing a horrible job of conversion. I requested that he bring some over and let me view them on my viewer. It is a very good viewer with corrected white light, variable focus, and a ground glass viewing plate. When we viewed his perfect slides, about 50 percent of them had motion blur. The slides taken indoors used florescent lighting for a light source. In all honesty, they were a mess and the scans (snapshots) taken with the Wolverine 14 MP scanner simply reflected the poor quality of the slides. These slides were also 40-50 years old and age can cause color shift. Where and how your slides have been stored makes a big difference. Keeping them in a box in your garage at a summer temperature of 95 degrees is not a good storage method. Exposure to heat and bright light can cause problems that the scanner simply duplicates.
If you expect this scanner to do the job that a Pro Shop does you will be disappointed. Those scanners are thousands of dollars and correction software is included. With this scanner, you may need to use software to increase contrast, color intensity, and other aspects of your scans. I have made an album that includes 300 slides, 97 color and b&w photos. I also have made 100 prints from color and b&w film strips with the Wolverine 14 MP scanner. About 30 % required adjustments with software to make them acceptable. The scanner is very fast and extremely easy to use. As a semi-pro Photographer, I like my work to be of very good quality. I am very impresses with this scanner and its results that I obtained and would recommend it to everyone.
Here are items you must have for good results from the scanner.
    1. Good quality prints, slides, or film strips
    2. Cleaning cloths made for cameras and lenses. I order these in bulk 100 at a time. They are very soft and made of a material that will not cause static on the item being cleaned. This is very important as some soft rags that you have in you closet may create static on the film or the scanner surfaces. This will attract lint to the surface like a magnet. Especially the scanners surface where you place photos. It is plastic so be very careful of what you use.
    3. Use lens cleaning solution for and surfaces of the film, scanner, and other areas. Window cleaning products can cause extreme problems and leave streaks or gooooo
    4. Purchase several cans of canned air with a straw. This is a must have item to gently blow of dust just before placing items in the scanner. Great to clean the surface of the photo section of the scanner.
    5. Purchase a lens brush (generally made of sable) Some great ones can be found in the ladies department in cosmetics. They are used to place blush or blend on their face. I stole my wife's expensive sable ½ inch brush
    6. Use gloves that are designed to handle film. Generally they are a soft lint free cotton glove purchased from Photographic suppliers such as B&H Photo
    7. Make sure you choose an area away from open windows. The gentle breeze that feels so good is also carrying dust particles that are attracted to film surfaces.
    8. View them with a viewer before you scan them if possible. There may already be nasty fingerprints and dirt and dust on your items that require special attention before scanning.
    9. Use canned air to blow them off before you scan them. Do not use your home compressor with a blow gun because the pressure is generally to high and the air contains water from the compressor and oil particles that can ruin you slides and film.

    Included content:
    1. Photo of scanned item (reduced because of size limitations) This is an untouched (as scanned ) photo of a 60 year old 5x7 photo that was placed in the album for the reunion. All scans were of similar quality with some needing adjustments to contrast or color rendition
    2. Photo of EXIF info

The workflow couldn't be better: Fast and comfortable. Open cover, put photo onto the device, two clicks, done. Great! I LIKE IT!

That said - the quality from (at least from my device) felt like 1MP resolution. After digitizing ~20 photos I was stunned of the low quality. So I experimented with small text, using 4x6 cropping. The result: The center 30% circle was sharp and from there on it was degrading rapidly (radial) towards the outer 20% - where it was so blurred that it was unreadable. Really - Why didn't they put a better lens into the device?

I also tried negatives. The sharpness there seemed better, but the colors were so far off that trees were not green and the ocean was not blue. There was a small calibration tool build in - but I find it hard to believe that the default colors couldn't be a bit more accurate then that.

After my experimenting the first 20 images suddenly disappeared from the SD card - which was odd since I didn't delete there anything.

As much as I like the device's simplicity, the quality of the outcome is unusable for my need since using a simple setup with a cheap point and shoot camera can do a much better job. As such I will return it. What a shame - I really liked the device itself.

    My verdict:
If you want to digitize paper photos and you think that 1-2mp resolution is good enough for your workflow you should get it! If you expect a better quality - better not.

A great tool for digitizing old family snapshots. While I haven't deeply analyzed the true quality of the scanned images, it's more than good enough for digging through that box of old slides in the basement. Scan to SD is huge for a linux user - no worries about drivers written only for windoze or smackintosh. No unsightly cables either.

Easy to use, but not a lot of features......

Built-in memory really needs to be expanded. Yes it will take a additional memory card, but only doing 8 images with the internal memory is really a pain.

Would also be a great enhancement if there was interface between the computer and the unit over the USB cable. Trying to adjust photo colors and brightness using the rudimentary front panel controls and view on the tiny display are difficult to say the least.

Would be a top-of-the-line unit wit a few minor changes.

Comments about Wolverine SNAP14 14MP Digital Image Converter:

This is a 3-star product that I purchased to convert 2,000 35mm slides. The product name SNAP is an acronym for Slides, Negatives and Photos. It does a fair job at all three of those tasks. Each scan takes only 3 seconds. One of the best features that I like about the SNAP 14 is the it can operate as a standalone device; no need to connect it to a computer. The only limitation as a standalone device is the size of the SD memory card you install. One of the worst features is the color output from the device. Don't even think you are going to scan photos or slides and just import them into your computer. You will need a quality photo editing software to do the color correction. I suggest something like Photoshop, Photoshoe Elements or Adobe Lightroom because you will need to begin color correction with using the Auto Correct feature.Although the device does allow you to easily adjust the exposure, red, green and blue colors, it wasn't enough for my application where many of the color of the slides was faded. On the slides that were in the best condition, the device performed much better although each photo still required some tweaking.

I've converted approx. one hundred 35mm slides, and have about 800 slides left to do. The conversion process is faster than I had expected, and the quality is excellent. My only problem is that I have a small quantity of the "127 Super Slides", and this image converter clips off a significant portion of the picture when converting Super Slides.

I bought the SNAP14 14MP Digital Image Converter because I have a big box of photos and negatives, and I wanted to get them converted to digital format. My parents also have a bunch of old slides that need to be converted. The scanner is easy enough to use that my 6 year old has been helping me to scan in the photos, and he even puts the negatives in and scans them once I have them in the negative holder. We will try the slides in a couple of weeks, but I don't envision any problems since they use a slide holder very similar to the negative holder.

Like many photographers of my age, I have numerous boxes, carousels and sleeves of 35mm slides archived here, there and everywhere. The process of digitizing them is daunting, so I was looking for an affordable solution I can have nearby, that I can use when I get windows of opportunity. The fast processing speed attracted me to this scanner, and it hasn't disappointed. When it occurred to me that I can still use the original slides should I want big enlargements, that convinced me.

I used the converter to transfer 40 year old negatives and slides. Take your time. It is slow but you are not purchasing a mass production converter. They come out looking like old pictures, which is exactly what you are copying. The slide holder occasionally pops out of place.Best part is I get to view old pictures that otherwise would never be seen again and file them digitaly.

We are digitizing hundreds of 35mm slides from the 60s and 70s. This product is really easy to use, and the quality is just fine for our purposes of being able to capture and share with friends and family so many wonderful childhood memories. I had looked into having this professionally done, and the cost was prohibitive - this is an easy, fun and affordable way to digitize images. Next I plan to do the same with prints from the 70s and 80s!

I am digitising some old slides which are a bit faded. The machine produces images very quickly. The image can be improved on the machine though the screen is rather small and the process is a rather tedious. Easier to adjust the images with computer software. Very easy to set up - just plug it in. I am very happy with the product and would recommend it.

I have over 1,000 family slides to convert and I'm just getting started. The scanner works well and is easy to use. I haven't tried to make any adjustments to images. I'll do that on my computer later. It's important to make sure the slide holder is snapped securely shut so it will go through the slot. If it's not going easily don't force it. Pull it out and check the holder. It would have been nice to be able to get extra slide holders through B&H but I was able to order them through @.

I opted for the SNaP 14 because of the photo scan feature. I scanned all 3 types of media: slides, negatives and photos. Negatives are really difficult because they do not exactly match the plastic scan tray openings. Photos are much easier.

The user who posted a lengthy set of directions on the successful use of this device is to be highly commended.

I read comments that put quality high on their expectations but I didn't find that to be the case. I really wanted a scanner to preserve old family slides, I found I got a better result by taking photos of a projection of the image, I want a better scanner than that.

I use the scanner for both slides and photos. It is easy to use and much faster than a flatbed scanner. I have not used the color correction feature since I have Photoshop and with it the color corrections are immediately apparent on the computer monitor. With this scanner it is a trial and error process since you have to switch back and forth between the slide and the color adjustment screen. I have hundreds of slides and photos and this unit is a fast and easy way to scan them into the computer.

Very simple to use, pulled it out of the box and was able to immediately get to work. Tried to find additional slide trays and was unable to (discontinued?). Somewhat time consuming only being able to do one tray at a time, but the reality is that you wouldn't have time to load additional trays because it really is fairly quick.
