Comments about Iomega StorCenter ix2-dl 2 Bay Diskless Network Storage Array:
I was running an older PC for my central server. To reduce power and heat I purchased a pogoplug but every user need software (Bloatware) and my family hated it. Since then I purchased this two bay Iomega and I am note searching any more.
Installed two 2TB drives in each slot and at connecting I was prompted about RAID 0. The speed in response is much faster than the former PC as the OS is small and efficient. The family uses it all of the time. I can also access the server from my Xbox 360 and android phone.
Pros: Very small foot print and energy efficient. Now software needed, just be on the same sharing network. Accessible by many remote media devises on the same share group.
Cons: I do not like that the admin session is open to any user on the network (Sorry I am a control freak.) I have not messed around with Security the unit much so maybe I have just not seen it yet.
This unit is small and packs a big punch (thumbs up!)

I was looking for a cheap NAS device to share files in my house. This did the trick and at a reasonable price. Initial setup is easy, but transferring roughly 750GB of data took a LOOOONNNNGGGG time! I have my mac's time machine connected to this and its trying to backup roughly 350GB and it says it will take 14 days. I have this now setup with one 3TB seagate drive and use as a DLNA device and can stream 1080 HD movies without much hiccup to my TV, playstation, google TV, and android devices. The USB Printer is a nice touch too however I have not set this up yet. Looks like you can also get files across the internet (I'm assuming you'd need a dedicated IP address). I use dropbox for this.I would not recommend this for a small business that would need quick transferring of files.

Installed (2) 1 TB drives in a Raid 1. Works fine. Only has 1 USB port but so far a 4 port USB hub has been working fine with an APC UPS and a 2TB external hard drive so that is pretty good.

Used two 2TB WD Green drives in a raid 0 config. USB plugged into UPS and write cache enabled. Using it on an Apple AirPort Extreme and getting good read and write speeds, took 12-14 min to transfer 40 gig of movies to the drive from my MacBook Pro. Just getting started, but so many options and features I need more time. iOS app crashes on iPad and iPhone if videos are accessed but works with documents and pictures. Weird. It's work the [$] paid, but not full price.

Comments about Iomega StorCenter ix2-dl 2 Bay Diskless Network Storage Array:
Having experienced recent disasters with the reliability and quality of 2 other NAS I am being very cautious about my enthusiasm toward any NAS products. The real test will be after having the unit in operation for a year. One of my recent problems with another NAS brand showed up 4 months after the unit was put into service. The StorCenter was easy to setup. The HD I installed were recognized but were not usable until I let the unit do it things overnight. None of the material that is available for this unit mentions the length of the formatting nor was there a message about the ongoing operation. The Manual and the user interface can use some improvement. For example how to disable Twonky, etc.
Overall the transfer speed seems acceptable and the streaming of video is good.

Comments about Iomega StorCenter ix2-dl 2 Bay Diskless Network Storage Array:
This is a great product. I added a 1.5TB WD green drive, plugged it in my switch (connected to a router), and that is it. No software installation required, it works flawlessly.
The problem though, is with speed. To copy a 4.5 TB file from PC to the drive, for the first 3TB the speed is stuck at 8MB/s, for the last 1.5TB it goes up to 35MB/s (I have a gigabit switch).
It must be the firmware of this drive. I also have a WD my book live NAS on the same switch, and its speed stays at around 30 MB/s from the beginning.
