The black Digital Rucksack 466-DL from Kata is a slightly larger version of Kata's Digital Rucksack 465-DL. Even with the 466's larger capacity, it remains a compact, lightweight and structural sound rucksack that can also be used as a standard daypack or sling-style bag. With its capacity to hold a DSLR system with 3-4 standard lenses as well as personals and accessories, this rucksack will get you through a gig or a family walk in the park. It's also rated to hold your 15.4" laptop in its own padded compartment.

The interior of the bag is made from Kata's tough Aeriform Foam-EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) and EVE (polyethylene), plus the overall construction features their unique TST (Thermo Shield Technology) rib structural design that provides additional strength to the areas of the bag that are most subject to shock. Strong, adjustable and padded shoulder straps deliver comfort while on the road and a sternum strap helps maintain stability while you walk.

The bag itself contains four zippered storage areas with the top designed for your personals and the bottom for photo gear. Plenty of accessories will fit inside including a flash, small computer, documents and iPad. A removable bottom insert allows you to transform the rucksack into a handy daypack. The exterior contains a side cup that can be used to either hold the legs of your tripod or a water bottle.

Optional Kata Camera Strap PL can be attached to the bag's D-rings to help alleviate the weight of your DSLR when hung around your neck. For even more convenience, the rucksack will accept Kata's optional Insertrolley that will allow you to effortlessly roll your pack through parking lots and up ramps. A built-in rain cover will protect you when the weather turns sour. This is a very useful, lightweight everday bag that meets the need of anyone who wants a strong and flexible way to carry a wide variety of photo and personal gear. It's backed by Kata's five-year warranty.

TST Rib
TST (Thermo Shield Technology) is a discreet solution that provides the perfect shock protection for your gear while creating an extremely lightweight product. It is featured on the most important areas of the bag that are subject to shock
Insertrolley Compatible
This bag is compatible with the Kata Insertrolley (KT VG-DTS, sold separately) - a simple yet ingenious system that allows you to carry the case, or even several cases at once, on a trolley. Simply slide the trolley through the integrated sleeve on any of Kata's compatible cases for secure and easy mobility. Even for larger cases - Kata's extendable wheel system helps to provide better stabilization. You can detach the trolley when you want to store it, or for maintenance
Rain Cover
The provided rain cover will protect your valuable equipment during extreme weather conditions
Aeriform Foam
For a unique combination of lightweight and protective material, Kata developed the Aeriform Foam. It's a perforated, laminated and reinforced foam of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) and EPE (polyethylene) materials. The result is superlight foam that keeps your gear protected

Solid Bag but Needs Better Straps

Comments about Kata Digital Rucksack 466-DL (Black):

The size of the bag is good for a cropped sensor DSLR (it fits my D90 just fine), and the weird pockets aren't that bad, either. Furthermore, Kata wins style points on this one: it's a great looking bag. However, the straps and chest clasp are pretty flimsy. I've also been placing my camera in the main compartment, because the bag puts pressure on my lower back when I place my camera in the lower compartments. If Kata put a little more effort into designing the straps, which could improve how the bag is balanced, then this bag would warrant a 5-star review.

Comments about Kata Digital Rucksack 466-DL (Black):

I'm a photographer for a small town newspaper and I use this pack everyday for my assignments. It has space in the bottom for several lenses, or if I'm doing sports I can fit my 7D (with vertical grip) with a 70-200 f/2.8 IS II with a 1.4x extender in the bottom, it's snug but it fits. The main section has a mesh addition to keep spare memory cards, pens, lens cleaner and other small accessories. I also can fit a sweatshirt and notebook in the main pocket as well. There are also four smaller pockets on the front, two are very small. I like to put chargers or my gopro in the medium size ones and throw a few granola bars or spare batteries in the small ones. The laptop section is nicely protected against your back, but I've also used it for a camelbak bladder on hikes. The two side pockets fit water bottles nicely too. I wouldn't go on any overnight hikes considering there is no waist harness (not to mention not having enough space for proper camping) but the chest strap does help when carrying a heavy load.I've used this pack for about a year now and there is no noticeable damage, all the zippers are great, no tears anywhere. I can't even find a frayed stitch.TL;DR: great every day pack, but don't expect to carry your entire arsenal.

Comments about Kata Digital Rucksack 466-DL (Black):

I have a very similar bag but got this one because I needed the laptop space. I use it to carry my iPad after finding that most bags built for an iPad don't have enough room for one with a cover and/or don't protect the iPad well enough.

        Pros:
        - good padding
        - big laptop sleeve hold iPad with sturdy cover plus papers or magazines
        - laptop/tablet is protected against your back
        - large open storage area at top
        - easy access to camera

        Cons:
        - too many really small pockets - not very practical for my use (would prefer about 2 and more space in the large storage areas)

Comments about Kata Digital Rucksack 466-DL (Black):

I just got this yesterday, haven't used it yet but so far am liking what I see. This is a perfect day pack - one to use when you're out and about needing various things but still want to bring and protect your camera. Old style camera bags are just too bulky AND you still need to bring a purse, sunscreen, ball cap, etc. for any sightseeing or hiking adventure.

This will likely not be ideal if you're a MAJOR photographer trying to bring lots of equipment, etc. There are other packs for that.

I wasn't sure how large the main compartment would be - turns out it's a decent size and behind it is the slot for the laptop. The only downsize is that the two sets of pockets (shown with a map and phone in the pics) are kind of small. I wish there were only two long/wide ones rather than 4 small ones. I love the bright interior, makes things easy to find.

The pack seems to be made well, it's light, sits up high when wearing it (doesn't pull you down low) is very comfortable.

I'm not sure about attaching the tripod, but will give it a spin.

Perfect - exactly what I needed. Holds everything, very strong, very comfortable. Love that the backpack can sit upright while you are fiddling with the camera storage because the bottom pocket pulls out like a drawer.

Comments about Kata Digital Rucksack 466-DL (Black):

I'm a new DLSR owner and I needed a bag. I wanted something that would have room for others things besides my camera and lens, especially for day trips with the kids.

I labored over this bag and the Tamrac Aero 80. I'm really glad I choose this bag. It has plenty of room for my camera with the lens attached and 2 others. It also easily fits my Lenovo T430s 15.4 laptop and still has plenty of room for other things. Also, it's light and doesn't add weight to the equipment at all.

What's also appealing about this bag is that it doesn't look like a camera bag...at all. It just looks like an ordinary backpack.

This bag fully satisfied my requirements for a camera bag and then some.
