The black GearPack-100 DL Backpack from Kata is a compact, functional and ergonomically designed pack that holds more than its own against similar sized packs on the market. At its reasonable price point, this pack can accommodate your Pro DSLR system with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens attached. In addition, it will store your 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom as well as a standard 50mm f/1.4 and 100 macro. For the videographer, you'll even have room for your compact camcorder. And, for accessories, even more room for your flash, memory cards, batteries, cables and personals.

The pack is made from Kata's tough Ripstop nylon and supported by comfortable, adjustable backpack straps. The back pad is padded for cool, comfortable portability. There's even a top carry handle for quick grab moments when you're rushing out the door or out of your car. The interior contains padded, fully adjustable yellow dividers that allow you to configure the guts to suit your gear needs on any given day.

Access to the pack is easy using the dual zippers that open the pack and expose the entire contents. Inside the front lid are organizer pockets for small items like media and business cards, cleaning cloths, phone, wallet, pens and cables. Your tripod can be readily mounted on the side using the included attachment straps. An additional side pocket is provided for a water bottle since a day's shooting can build up a thirst. An additional interior Utility Pocket can be easily attached to any of the interior dividers.

Kata's optional Modi-Vers Divider System can be employed to customize the pack even more. These dividers can be cut to size to truly configure the pack to your specific needs and hold your gear firmly in place. The pack is backed by Kata's five-year warranty.

Comments about Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack (Black):

Like I said before, it is lightweight and that is the best thing about it. It has a lot of room and fits my canon 7d and two additional lenses with room to spare. I had a shoulder bag before and it was heavy on one shoulder. This pack distributes the weight evenly and makes it much easier to lug around my equipment. It also has a convenient pocket for my cell phone, a handbook, keys, etc.-- there is even room for my ipad. Nice price too! I'm considering getting the smaller one for hikes and walking downtown and saving this one for travel.

Comments about Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack (Black):

I am very happy with this pack. It is lightweight and for me that is everything. It also has a lot of room. The price is also right! I like it much more than the shoulder bag I was using. This backpack distributes the weight evenly and is easier to carry.

Comments about Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack (Black):

The Gearpack-100 DL is flimsy, heavy lenses flop around in there as the removable partitions aren't secure because the velcro doesn't hold, it's like trying to make tape stick to a wet surface. It's too insubstantial for the amount of gear you can fit in it. I also have the bigger Kata Bug 205pl which works great.

Comments about Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack (Black):

I am a professional photographer and have owned dozens of bags over 30 years. This backpack is without competition in how flimsy it is built. It is scarcely functional with a Nikon D700, wide zoom, medium zoom and a 70-200mm f2.8. Don't get me wrong, they fit, but if you don't lay the backpack down flat they're going to fall out. It's not just about carrying your gear, your have to be able to use it when you get there. Look at a Lowepro or Case Logic and pass on this one.

Comments about Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack (Black):

For day hiking or an outing that only requires your camera (with attached 70-200, if you want) plus 3 lenses and a water bottle, this is a great pack. Easily accomodates an iPad and/or a 15" laptop in the front compartment. Construction quality (seams, zippers, padding, materials, etc.) are all top notch, which has been my experience with Kata packs.

Comments about Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack (Black):

After 7 years I wore out my Lowe Pro bag. I decided to buy another Lowe Pro only to find out they changed the bag and now it opens in the back. The front flap does not go all the way down and has to be held open with your other hand or foot ,or whatever, when you go for another lens. It just seemed inconvient so I looked at the Kata bags. The Gearpack-100 DL in particular. It has a bright yellow interior that makes it easy to find lens caps, memory cards, etc. It holds my Nikon D300 with an attatched heavy 80-200 f 2.8 lens and attatched lens hood. I also carry a 12-24 wide angle zoom, memory cards ,batteries, filters , lens cleaning kit, cold weather gloves and a few Granolla bars.
The bag is extremely well made and has plenty of room for the things I carry and there is still room for more. I'm a 73 year old nature and landscape photographer and have been at it for 38 years so I've had a lot of different types and brands of camera bags. I've had this Kata for two months now and I don't think anyone would be dissapointed with the quality of this bag. It does as advertised and I love it.
