Comments about Optoma Technology DX339 XGA Multimedia Projector:

I bought the DX339 XGA multimedia projector by Optoma Technology projector for doing Power Point Presentations in front of small to medium size rooms. It works really well for that purpose.

I've tried connecting a Blackberry Playbook through a micro-USB cable and it worked great. Since you can use your Blackberry smartphone as a remote to advance slides, it makes the whole set up very portable. The downside to using BB Playbook for slide showing is that the software on the Playbook does not support animation. So, slide transitions and any animation within slides will not work. For simply advancing static slides, it's great.

I have also connected my laptop to it. The challenge was to get the remote to work. I've searched the internet for advice and found none. I did find others looking for a solution. The manual is not clear on what you'd need for the remote to work. I requested support through an online form. It's been 9 days, and I received no answer except for the initial auto-response. Eventually, I figured it out. You have to connect BOTH the VGA cable AND the USB cable to the projector for the remote to work. Unfortunately, the projector DOES NOT come with a standard USB cable. Seriously???? I happened to have one from a different piece of equipment. Even then, the remote wasn't working. I looked at all possible settings and found that perhaps tinkering with settings within the Power Point program itself might help ( "advance on click" or "set the projector as the main monitor" options). You might also want to check out your settings for the laptop display. To be honest I don't even know what it was that made it finally work, but it did.

A side note for the remote: 1. Don't forget to press the mouse icon on the remote to activate the function. 2. the best way to advance slides is to use Page+ and Page- buttons as they will allow you to go back and forth between the slides like arrow keys on your keyboard.

Otherwise, I didn't find the mimicking of the mouse function (except for advancing slides) very useful.

A bonus use for home was streaming video content from the internet (both Blackberry Playbook and laptop) and projecting it on a wall. The sound from the projector was sufficient to accompany the visuals.

The projector has many variations in its settings when it comes to brightness, tonality, size, etc. You can adjust them all appropriately and to your liking.

The big bonus for me was that the projector came with its own carrying case.

The projector has been tested in an actual presentation, which went without a hitch. It worked well in a fairly bright environment.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the functionality and the price.
