        Comments about Datavideo SE-600 8-Input A/V Switcher with CV / DVI-D / DVI-I:

I installed one in an analog TV studio whose old analog DataVideo SE-800 switcher had failed. Studio did not have the funding to upgrade their cameras and system to HD, and this SE-600 was the best option to keep them on air until they can afford a sweeping upgrade.Let me be honest and state that I am not a fan of DataVideo. I have installed or serviced their Hard Drive recorders and SE-500 and SE-800 switchers and feel the design and performance is sub par. However, this SE-600 switcher is a real turnaround for DataVideo. The inclusion of not one, but TWO DVI inputs (DVI-I and DVI-D) is fantastic, eliminating the need for third-party analog scan converters, and the image quality on these inputs is quite impressive.Multiview display is somewhat customizable and is great for minimizing power useage, and heat buildup you would find with separate source monitors. One detail that is not as prevalent as I'd like to see in the sales literature, is that your multiview monitor MUST support true 1920x1080 resolution. You cannot just throw any old LCD monitor into use for the multiview.Another feature I appreciate is that the settings menu is always displayed in the lower center of the multiview screen. You can easily make adjustments while you are switching a show without some annoying overlay on your preview or program monitor.Physically, the unit is somewhat lightweight and plastic assembly is worrisome. The buttons have a good tactile response, and the fader bar is smooth. Audio mixing features of the SE-600 are not used at this facility, so I can't speak to that part of its performance. So, the one problem I have with this switcher is the LACK of Chroma Key functionality. Most of the studios I service have blue or green screen and rely heavily on chroma key effects. Instead, the SE-600 uses a LUMINANCE key. Thankfully the studio where I installed this had white walls behind their blue curtains. After I evenly re-lit their studio walls, the luminance key worked quite nicely. Lack of chroma key was not a deal-breaker in this instance, but is definitely worth noting for potential buyers. For the most part, this switcher works perfectly right out of the box. There is a great deal of information on DataVideo website regarding workarounds, solutions for commonly encountered operator errors, etc.Client loves their new SE-600 switcher, and I have no problem recommending it to others.

          Comments about Datavideo SE-600 8-Input A/V Switcher with CV / DVI-D / DVI-I:

This is one the most powerful switchers I have ever used in 10 years of live production. I've previously used about 3 other brands but the SE-600 is the best so far. Together with it, I purchased DVI-D to BNC converters and inputs 7&8 took up camera signals seamlessly. The quality of the mixed signal has no variance at all with the camera copy.

            Comments about Datavideo SE-600 8-Input A/V Switcher with CV / DVI-D / DVI-I:

We use this switcher for the production of all of our church services. We are able to route 3 cameras, a laptop, an ipad, DVR and DVD player to the unit for all of the necessary aspects of our service. The Auxillary video outputs of the switcher enable us to send different video feeds to different areas of our building including our hallway monitors and our sanctuary screens. The multiview screen is absolutely priceless to have on a single plasma screen display that replaced 5 old CRT monitors we used before. The XLR and RCA audio inputs/outputs allow us to control all of the audio for video recording and live streaming. Overall this unit is absolutely incredible, would recommend it to anyone in need of updating their equipment to the next level.
