The Intuos5 takes into consideration several aspects of a professional's workflow, including software integration points, demand for performance and demand for comfort. Its programmable ExpressKeys allow you to activate time-saving shortcuts and modifiers in each of your applications. Plus, the finger-sensitive Touch Ring provides intuitive control of scrolling, zooming, brush size, canvas rotation and layer selection. I am a complete beginner with pen tablets and so it took a while to get the hang of this product. I am also left handed and not used to using my left hand for editing.
Once I found the manual that was buried in the software things got better. I believe the problem was more with the operator than the product. There is definately a learning curve here.
The best way to learn is to jump right in with it. The more you use it; the better it gets! I bought it mainly for photo editing, but I am already playing with it painting in CS5.
Pricey, but very cool. I am sure I will grow into this and it will help with the more intricate parts of editing.

i've owned tons of these, and just upgraded from 4 to this version. without a doubt this tablet is nice step forward in terms of body design and materials used.
however, the response is jumpy, the cursor often loses it's position and jumps to another spot on the screen. this is pretty frequent and gets very annoying.
in touch mode, the panel does respond to your wrist, as well as your fingers. just to be clear this is a strong negative. this makes multitouch cumbersome if not unusable for the moment. this is a serious problem which i saw people posting questions about ahead of launch. the touch response is slow overall.
this is a great tablet, but with clearly unfinished and poorly written drivers, so wait till they really fix the drivers to buy this. i might have to take it back and wait too.

Comments about Wacom Intuos5 Medium Pen & Touch Tablet:
This is my first time using a graphics pen tablet. I've been using a mouse/track ball for my photo retouching, and it was doing a number on my wrist. I like the Wacom Intuos5 design. It's not as responsive as I had expected but maybe I just need to get used to it. I got the Medium size as I have a dual 24" monitor setup. I think it's a good compromise in terms of size, footprint, function, and price.

Comments about Wacom Intuos5 Medium Pen & Touch Tablet:
This is the second Intuos Pen Tablet that I've bought for the company. The first was purchased for my personal use and I liked so much that I bought another for my Special Effects Supervisor. She is currently using it to build digital matte paintings for our films and can't say enough good things about it. Moving from a wired mouse to this is like moving out of the dark ages.

The Waxom Intuos5 Medium tablet is what has been missing in my workflow for digital photography.
It adds an element of flow to the process that was missing. With the programability of its function keys for different applications, and the addition of the radial menus capability its functionality and flexibility are deep.
It has replaced my Mac Magic Pad. It has the same and additinal gesture functionality. So it provides a single integrated imput device for all om my applicatins and has the bonus of the stylus pen for detailed, prssure sensitive work.
Once tried you will never give it up.

Comments about Wacom Intuos5 Medium Pen & Touch Tablet:
I do a lot of portrait and all of my workflow has to go through retouching. Working in black and white requires a level of control of your retouching far more careful than what can be obtained with other tools.
The sensitiveness of the pen and it's total integration with photoshop makes retouching incredibly smooth and provides a level of control that you can't find anywhere else.
The side buttons and touchstrips, on the other side, I don't think I've ever used them. I find them more of nuisance than anything else.

I switched from using a magic mouse to a tablet mostly for video editing work. It helps in many situations. from developing carpel tunnel from using a mouse the change to using a tablet has been amazing. I can work longer and my wrist doesn't hurt at all due to the fact that I'm moving my whole arm/hand not just my wrist.

Amazing. I never want to touch a mouse again. I use it with Smoke and it works great. But I don't just use it for editing. Day to day tasks on the computer just seem to go more smoothly when using the tablet, such as making selections and reviewing video. I used an older version before but didn't really get the feel for it. With this one, the pen feels great in the hand and the pen to surface friction is just the right amount.

If you're using this strictly for photo editing and your wondering what size to get the medium is plenty and honestly you could get away with the small version. The medium eats up a lot of desk space.
The tablet itself is a major step for me from the bamboo. Awesome responsiveness and the quality you would expect from Wacom.
