The Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Axis Velocity USB 3.0 brings together a large storage unit and blazing fast USB transfer rate in this affordable, yet loaded, external hard drive.

The system is optimized for USB 3.0, showing off transfer rates in the range of 5Gbps. That's 10 ten times faster than USB 2.0. - and about six times faster than FireWire 800. In real world speed, it's comparable to transferring a 25GB file in less than 70 seconds - the same file would take over thirteen minutes to transfer on the USB 2.0 platform. But if you don't have a USB 3.0 port available, fret not - the unit is backwards compatible to 2.0.

Besides the blazing fast speed, the DriveStation also offers automatic 256-bit AES Full Disk Encryption (FDE) that protects your data from unauthorized access. Since many end users treat these large-capacity hard drives as mini home networks, protecting the data there is important.

The unit comes pre-formatted in an NTFS partition for Windows-based PCs - Mac users can simply and easily reformat the HDD using Apple's proprietary Mac Disk Utility. It offers HFS+ support as well.

The design is sleek and compact, and the unit can stand upright or lay flat. The fanless design keeps the unit whisper quiet, so placing it in a game room or living room isn't going to interfere with your activity or concentration.

The Buffalo DriveStation Axis Velocity USB 3.0 is a total solution for those considering size, speed, and aesthetics when making a storage purchase.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0
With the 5Gbps transfer rate, you'll be blazing your file transfers along, in an appreciable upgrade from a standard 2.0 interface. Don't have a USB 3.0 port? That's okay, because the unit is backwards compatible to USB 2.0.
Hardware Disk Encryption
Automatic 256-bit AES Full Disk Encryption (FDE) protects your data from unauthorized access, and adds another level of security to your data.
PC and Mac Compatible
Seamlessly connecting to either OS is possible, as this drive offers NTFS and HFS+ (PC) support, as well as standard Mac support for file partitioning.
The pre-formatted hard drive lets PC users get down to business right out of the box - Mac users only need a few mouse clicks to reformat the drive for their machines.
Fanless Design
The hard drive runs in super silent mode thanks to the fanless architecture of the drive. No more noisy gearing up or irritating grinding - you could put this unit in your living room and never know it was there.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Axis Velocity USB 3.0:

I bought 3 of these for downloading P2 cards to while on the road. They've been great! I'm editing on one right now with Media Composer 6. My project is on the Buffalo Tech drive and I even consolidated my media to the same drive which I realize is not a best practice. Don't try to edit with this going down the highway. The bumping will cause the drive to "dismount". I tried that out of desperation to turn something a little quicker. The drive was fine, but I didn't push it once I realized what was happening. Persisting would surely have caused the drive to fail.

Sorry to hear about the other guy's luck. It's a good thing his data wasn't worth more than the drive. Given what I do I could care less about the drive or it's monetary value. The data on it is what's valuable and I'm really happy with this drive after using it hard for a year and a half.

Take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Axis Velocity USB 3.0:

I bought this drive in Sept. I only use it for backup so there's not a lot of activity on it. Started to make strange noises today, just 1 month after purchase. Buffalo warranty wants me to pay to ship it back to them for RMA. Will not buy a Buffalo product again.
