The Gorilla Baseplate for C300, Scarlet and Epic Cameras from Zacuto is a simpler and lighter version of C300 Studio Baseplate designed for Canon EOS C300, Red Scarlet and Red Epic Cameras. It attaches to the camera with 3/8" 16 and 1/4" 20 screws*. The Gorilla Baseplate features 0.59" (15mm) diameter and 2.36" (60mm) spaced threaded rod holes in the front of the baseplate that allows you to mount a follow focus, lens support or other accessories in front of the camera. It is not compatible for matte box use unless you have a height adjustable matte box**.
The Gorilla Baseplate features Zacuto's rod port system on the side of the plate that allows you to mount an EVF or other accessories. It is great for building simple run and gun type set ups like the C300 Target Shooter, C300 Striker and Recoil. It can also be used for a simple tripod set-up. The Gorilla Baseplate does not come with the rods and they need to be purchased separately.
Note! *The screw hole pattern on the Gorilla Baseplate is 1/4" 20, 1/4" 20, 3/8" 16, 3/8" 16. The 1st 1/4" 20 & 3/8"16 screw holes are for mounting the C300. The last 1/4" 20 & 3/8"16 screw holes are for mounting the Epic/Scarlet. The plate includes one 1/4" 20 screw & one 3/8" 16 screw. **It has a non-standard rod to lens height, only some adjustable matte boxes will work. The standard is 3.35" (85 mm). The lens of the Epic/Scarlet to center of 0.59" (15 mm) rods on the Baseplate is 4.17" (106 mm). The lens of the C300 to center of 0.59" (15 mm) rods is 3.46" (88 mm).

Comments about Zacuto Gorilla Baseplate for C300, Scarlet and Epic Cameras:
One of the least expensive and most useful items you can have with the Zacuto logo on it if you have a C series camera. Provides a way to mount your follow focus, matte box, what have you with a low profile that doesn't weigh a lot when you pull your rig off the tripod. Rods in the front must be threaded, but provides a couple of other options to clamp rods to the side of the unit for monitor, etc. My tripod setup became too front heavy for my 502 head with this, my C100, follow focus, matte box and a 70-200 zoom, so I've had to bump up to a 504, which I should have done in the first place anyway. A nice, concise piece of gear and needed if you don't already have a baseplate.

Comments about Zacuto Gorilla Baseplate for C300, Scarlet and Epic Cameras:
It's fine if you just want to mount on a tripod...The rods must be screw in only, they do not extend through the mount to the rear of the camera. Zacuto has different product that allows rods to move thru the plate and it so just a heads up on this lower priced plate.

Comments about Zacuto Gorilla Baseplate for C300, Scarlet and Epic Cameras:
This is a great baseplate- very secure and adds just the right amount of weight to the camera. The camera feels extra secure with this on the bottom- I don't have to worry about scratching/damaging the bottom of it when setting it down.
I love that I can attach my manfrotto plate to the bottom and go from tripod to handheld rig in 2 seconds. Plus the ability to add threaded rods very quickly without having to change out the baseplate. Add follow focus, mattebox super fast.
Please note- you CANNOT use normal, unthreaded rods on the front of this baseplate. You must buy the threaded variety. I was a little annoyed to discover this at first, but it's not a big deal.
Another great product from Zacuto and even a decent price!
