I bought this to replace an entry-level compact Manfrotto tripod for travel. I attach the tripod to my camera bag, so it must be light, compact and easy to use. This tripod meets all those criteria. I like the ball head, the twist-lock legs, and since my favorite color is orange, the anodized accents. The pan-swivel makes taking panoramic photos easier. The materials and machining quality is very good. It's very solid, has a hook from which to hang weight in the center pole, and almost all of the controls give a nice, positive feel. My chief complaint about it is the knob that tightens the clamp on the mounting plate. When you put a camera on the head, the knob sticks out to the side, but there isn't enough clearance to the bottom of the camera to get a really positive twist. It's possible to mount the camera sideways on the plate, but that eliminates the front-back adjustment. Also, it does get a bit wobbly when the center column is extended fully. You may be able to mitigate this by hanging weight from it, I haven't tried yet. Overall, it's an excellent tripod, great value for money.

I searched and searched for the best value and overall best reviews for a travel tripod. I have a full size Induro tripod which is amazing but also very heavy to carry around. After a series of reviews between the Manfrotto BeFree and the MeFoto travel tripod I settled on the MeFoto. It doesn't raise up as hight as the Manfrotto by about 5 inches but won with easier folding up compared to the Manfrotto. The price difference of about $40 also helped. Either way I shoot with a 6D -no grip, and a 24-105 and 70-200 (non-IS, f/4) lenses. I found that with only the first 2 sections of the legs extended and the center column at its lowest point the tripod was still very very unstable. Overall use of the tripod I felt that if I was to let go of my camera at any point the weight would cause the tripod to fall over. I repositioned the legs in front of the lens, behind the body, everything I could think of to get some stabilization. In the end I felt that no matter what I could not be sure that it would not tip over and destroy $2000-$4000 worth of equipment. In the end I will use this tripod for my point and shoot Canon S100 or my iPhone with the MeFoto cell phone holder because I feel thats what it is really equipped to do best or possibly a smaller DLSR such as a Rebel with a 50mm lens. I hope this helps because I feel that too many of these reviews are so over the top positive and don't really give this tripod a true review.

This was purchased for a trip to Europe last spring as a better than nothing item. It did the job but it has a very hard time holding and maintaining holding a 5d and a 24-105. But again the important thing is that is did the job and I had room for it.

...more than I expected...this is the perfect travel tripod for my lighter medium format camera (Fuji GA645zi, 2.5 lbs)...it easily fits in the aircraft overhead bag (or even under the seat)...it is so lightweight, quick to set up, designed and constructed quite well...a terrific value...and the color (I chose red) is just plain pretty...

I use this tripod for bopping around with my little point n'shoot. Its tiny, light and its case is super useful for just heading out to get some grabs of a location w/out having to lug all the heavy gear around. I'm generally not a fan of the twist to tighten leg extenders, but so far they have not caused me any problems.

The Backpacker Travel Tripod is a great combination of strength and weight. Looks good too. Overall build quality is excellent and for the money the ball head in particular works very well. No need for a reversible central column because inverting the legs works just fine. The smallest leg extensions are a bit thin but you can't have a super compact design with beefy legs!

Very good to travels. Never had one tripod before, but I think this one is very useful and can hold most of simple shots. On first impression, it is not very stable, it seems that one tiny collision would drop it off, but after some tests I saw that is firmer that I thought. Great product for the price, if you need a compact size.

I originally purchased the MeFoto Roadtrip, but as much as I love the quality of that product. The size and weight was larger then what I really wanted. The BackPacker is a pound lighter and 3 inches shorter compacted, but just as sturdy as long as you don't extend the top portion of the tripod.

It is perfect for traveling if weight is a concern.

Comments about BackPacker Travel Tripod (Blue):

I bought this sight unseen for a trip to the Caribbean where I was to shoot photos and video for our website. The tripod is well made and very compact, but it is a bit heavy for its size. The screw-in base plate system is not as elegant as Manfrotto's friction hold, but it is usable. The ball-head is very nice, but better suited to photos and not video. The screw-type leg extenders are more clumsy than the clip-style and take longer to extend/retract.

Comments about BackPacker Travel Tripod (Titanium):

I am really impressed with the overall quality of the tripod for the size and price. Yes, there are other travel tripods out there, but not for anywhere near this price and not with an Arca-Swiss ballhead. It feels well made and the legs work smoothly. It isn't the tallest tripod and you have to extend the center column to get it up to "usable standing height", but it is as advertised. This is NOT some flimsy, box store discount tripod. It is a very professionally made but inexpensive travel tripod. In my experience, there is not better bargain in the carry-on bag sized tripods out there.I would suggest you compare the weights between the aluminum and carbon fiber versions. With this many leg sections and connectors, etc., there is very little weight savings between the aluminum and carbon fiber. Hard to justify spending more for CF on this type of tripod. The little case it comes with is decent as well. You won't be able to use this for an all around tripod for your 600 f/4, but for a smaller 300 or 400mm f/5.6 lens, it is plenty strong enough. Having said that, I did mount my old 500 f/4.5 APO (8 lbs) in a Wimberly Sidekick on it and it was stable enough for use in a pinch.

Comments about BackPacker Travel Tripod (Titanium):

Purchased BackPacker about 18 months ago and continue to be impressed with this product. The miniature dimensions when folded were the purchase driver at the time, can carry this tripod in my backpack, which makes it easy to carry anywhere - bicycle, hiking. Since I mostly take train and landscape pictures, this tripod is essential.

Using D7000 with mid-weight (f2.8/f3.5 zooms from Sigma) lens, BackPacker is sturdy and supports the weight comfortably. Has been to fresh, salt water, sand and mud and there are no signs of wear and tear on it.

This tripod is easily worth paying up to 50% more for.

I bought this tripod for our trip to New Zealand and it does not disappoint! It's light enough to fit into either my carry-on or checked baggage. Any larger or heavier, and I probably would've rued the day I decided to lug it with me. Extremely sturdy and very well-made. I don't fear for my camera's safety when it's mounted on there.

Comments about BackPacker Travel Tripod (Blue):

Picked up the Canon EOS M for dirt cheap and wanted a nice portable tripod to match. Chose the MeFOTO based on the majority of reviews and the color options. Find the tripod compact and functional with a nice build quality. A little difficult to get a proper breakdown of the tripod to fit the carrying bag on the first try though. You'll find yourself positioning the head a couple times to get the right fit.

                                    Pros
The design of this tripod is fantastic. It feels solid and all the knobs are easy to turn and precise in their operation. This is a great for traveling. I was able to fit it in a small backpack without any inconveniences.

                                    Cons
Does not feel as solid as other tripods when raised to its maximum height. Nevertheless this would not stop me from recommending it to anyone.

This tripod sets up quickly and provides a solid platform for my Nikon Coolpix A. I love the head with the leveling bubble and the limitless amount of adjustments that the head provides. The unit packs neatly into its own bag and is very easily transported in your backpack or messenger bag.. Very "Big" little tripod. The only thing I would like is if it were a bit lighter... If that's so important spring for a CF one. This is a very versatile well built tripod for the price and I am very happy with my purchase.
