I purchased this firewall after installing a WD MyBookLive Duo and Apple TV, both of which caused my old Linksys WRT54G to lock up.
Pro: Easy set up and firmware upgrades. Wireless and Gb wired work as advertised. Nice to have Gb when I need to transfer big data volumes to the MyBook Live Duo. Easy to set up security restrictions, especially when I need to restrict Internet use by my teenagers.
Indifferent: have not tried the DLNA server yet. Con: Seems like I have to hard cycle the firewall every other day due to network lock-ups. Setting global security web controls only allows specific domain name and protocol blocking. The parental controls tools are not very granular - sticking with OpenDNS for now.

I have had this device for just over 6 months. Within 3 months of having the unit, it started having problems dropping my internet connection. Some times I could just wait and it would reconnect. Other times I had to reboot the router. After several calls with WD support, they replaced the unit. Now after about 3 months again with a new unit I am having the same problems. I would not recommend this unit at all.

This unit has many more features than I can use right now, but I won't have to upgrade in the near future. It set up easy and worked well from the start. The 75 page instruction manual and CD made the initial installation fairly easy for a non-geek.

Comments about Western Digital My Net N900 Dual-Band Router:
This is one of the few routers I could find that has 7 ports instead of 5. I wanted the extra wired ports because even though it is a pain running ethernet wire, it still is much faster than wireless. Also, the two USB ports are a nice feature. As far as wireless performance goes, it is slightly better than the D-link router it is replacing.

I recently needed to upgrade my router. I purchased this device because of other online reviews / rankings and the price offered by B&H. After installation I had a question. I called Western Digital for service and was provided great service. Product works great / installs easily / performs well.

Love the fact that it has 7 ports and two USB ports. Makes it a good product for an added external drive to be accessed throughout the network using WiFi. One thing to note: if you select a computer to be used under the parental controls and later want to take it off, you will have to reset the router to factory settings. You can't just "uncheck" the computer... or at least that's what I had to do.

I had been shopping fot two new routers for quite a while now. I bought (and returned) Belkin, Netgear, D-Link, and Linksys. All were the top models within the brand, but none were as good as my five year old router that had just died. I decided to try a Western Digital and first bought an N750. I was so impressed with it, I immediately bought a WD N900 to replace my other router. They have great features, great range, and the best thing about the N900 is the number of gigabit ports, 8. One day I might run out of ports, but for now, this router saved me. So far I have not found anything bad about this router, or the 750 for that matter. They're both great routers.

Setup was easy and it worked out of the box. I like the dual frequency WiFi access. A WiFi client can choose the best one. If the microwave oven (2.45 GHz) blows out a 2.4 GHz channel, just switch to a 5 GHz channel.
