I had high expectations after ordering this tripod and I wasn't disappointed. This tripod has everything that I need to get started in my post retirement hobby without breaking the bank, and I'm sure that someone on a professional level would too appreciate it as well.

first of all it's well built, heavy duty without being too heavy, at 6.7 lbs it's light in comparison to some of the higher end tripods that Davis & Sanford makes. And at the maximum height of 72" I don't have to bend over with my bad back to get that great shot, or use my camera to video record my grandchild's concert. The tripod comes with a heavy duty very fluid 3 way head that is as smooth as silk when panning, and get this, it comes with a ten year warranty!

Also included is a very durable storage bag, an extra quick release plate, three built in bubble levels and a allen wrench to adjust the tension on the quick release lock as you please.

It supports up to 13 lbs and it comes with adjustable leg clamps, a center post that has a hook to add extra weight for stability if needed, and you can adjust each leg to different angles and as low as 8" for tight macro photography.

I absolutely hit a home run with purchasing this tripod after looking for weeks, and so will you!

I bought this tripod primarily for shooting video, and when I received the first of these units and did some testing I noticed that the pan action was not smooth. It was "bumpy" in some places, like it was catching slightly in certain spots - not good for a fluid head, and unacceptable to me. (The tilt action was fine as I recall.) Also I noticed a minor blemish on the QR plate, to which I thought maybe the tripod had been used briefly and returned. B&H did the RMA and sent me a unit in exchange (thanks so much folks - great shopping and Customer Service!).I really liked this tripod and hoped that what I received was a fluke. But no, the pan action on the second tripod was the same way. And it too had minor blemishes in other places that could have been the result of a previous purchase and return. I really wanted to like this tripod enough to overlook the panning issue, but good sense prevailed. I returned it, this time for an outright refund, and then purchased an entirely different tripod (a Manfrotto).I will say this though for those for whom smooth panning isn't necessarily important: This tripod felt really well built otherwise. Very solid and stable. I really did like it aside from the panning issue.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG13 Grounder Tripod With FX13 Head:

I bought this tripod because it looked like the highest quality for the best price. I wasn't disappointed. It's a good solid tripod and functional for my Sony NEX-FS100 video camera. It exists at a perfect niche between the cheaper tripods and the much more expensive ones. One reviewer said his tripod didn't pan smoothly and had signs of being used. I did not experience that with mine and am quite satisfied. The XG13 also has a convenient weighting hook that I intend to use for audio gear anchoring. It's a little heavy but that works for stability and isn't a problem. B&H Photo serves my needs professionally, with personal support and advice, and has never failed to deliver.

I am a causual videographer. I was looking for a portable but sturdy tripod with a fluid head for my Canon 70D DSLR, which I use for both photography and making videos. This tripod is the perfect fit.The is quite smooth on panning and tilting. The base is solid and does not budge on location. There are 3 levels on this tripod, which makes leveling it easy. I like that I can drop it all the way down to 8 inches from the ground and shot up from the floor to achieve certain dramatic effects. This tripod doubles as a good photography tripod too because the head has a hinge that allows you to easily go back and forth between portrait and landscape shooting. All this and it folds down to a reasonable 27 inches and only weights 6.7 lbs. I am very satisfied.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG13 Grounder Tripod With FX13 Head:

It was acquired a few weeks back. Received in perfect condition. I find the tripod easy to handle and a bit on the heavy side for an ageing person.
THE FX13 head comes with two plates to attatch equipment.
It is smooth both in panning and tilting. However, I find one must pan very slowly or else will experience some slight backlash at stopping point. Work around is to not release handle suddendly but keeping some pressure at stop point on rapid panning.
While discussing this with D&S Customer Service they even suggested replacing the head for me but I did not follow as this backlash can be overcome easily with use.
On the backside of the head are three knobs and the button releasing the camera plate which screws directly on a camera. The larger knob like a wingnut serves to switch the camera position from landscape to portrait mode and vice versa.
Two other knobs like half-wingnuts lock pan and tilt but I find those are not very useful to adjust friction.
On the right side is the the head's handle 9.5 inches long which is ajustable for hight relative to the head and also a round knob to set on/off the counter balance included in this unit which prevents the camera from rotating and crashing down.
You will find more details on the tripod itself on other reviews as I wanted here to stress the usage of the head itself.
All in all a good buy and good quality for the money.

Couldn't have asked for a more useful first tripod. I was looking for something that wouldn't break the bank but would last me a few years and this tripod is the one. I'm using it for both timelapse/long exposure photography and professional videography and this tripod provides the essentials for both. The fluid head is perfect for my uses and the tension for the pan and tilt knobs are both fully adjustable. 3 levels provide quick information on your shot and the sturdy construction makes me feel safe about leaving my camera on it for long periods of time. 5/5.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG13 Grounder Tripod With FX13 Head:

This tripod/head is quite versatile and steady. Versatile in that it's light enough to lug for long distances, but rugged and steady enough for big glass on uneven terrain. Steady is harder to quantify, but it's steady enough that an extended battery pack and mirror-slap are my biggest sources of wobble.
It unfolds easily with predictable friction -- easy on the fingers. It's maximum spread is quite far. It will allow the center post to contact the ground -- potentially useful if one wanted to cut the center tube down for sitting.

The hook is pitifully fragile but functional. It unscrews from the center post to let you get an extra two inches lower. I suggest leaving it unscrewed until you need it and plug the hole with a chair stopper.

The FX13 head is good for everyday use. I ordered an extra head for easier adjustments on macro shots. It's built well and comes with 2 sleds for your different hardware. There is a second catch to prevent the camera from falling off. Slewing is smooth and predictable. The friction is easy to operate and holds well, but the knobs/screws are standard pitch so it takes a firm twist to lock with a heavy rig at odd angles. It doesn't randomly let go or anything nasty like that. With more use I expect the feel to improve. I'd like to see the knobs be more different for tactile identification.

The balance compensation feature is a nice touch that could easily have been taken a step further. It's balance compensation spring only centers. It would be so easy to add another hole/detent to preload the spring toward the rear for heavy lenses. A few preload settings would let the tilt friction work much easier.

The head/tripod combo will allow a complete downward slew which I find handy for macro.

The first thing to go will be the hook, other than that, this is really a rugged combo. It's hard to beat for the price, and I find it a good value.

I chose this specific tripod package for its compact size when fully reduced. I use it for the Panasonic HMC150 and it provides a nice balance, when set. It does tend to drift a little if you do not have the tension set properly.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG13 Grounder Tripod With FX13 Head:

This tripod is being used with a Panasonic AG-HMC80P and also with a Nikon D7100. The versatility of this tripod is outstanding.
                  The tripod:
                  1. Very robust constuction.
                  2. Adjustable legs to 4 different angles.
                  3. Great for low angle shooting.
                  The FX13 head:
                  1. Unmatched versatility.
                  2. Three bubble levels.
                  3. Smooth pan and tilt.
                  4. Provided with two QR plates.
                  5. Safety button on QR plate.
                  6. Counterbalance is a great feature for use with the Panasonic gear.

Only one very minor inconvenience - bubble level on bottom of head is difficult to see unless the center post is raised slightly.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG13 Grounder Tripod With FX13 Head:

I purchased this tripod as I was fortunate enough to see it at the Photokina exhibition in September so was able to try it out. To be able to get a counterbalance system built into a 3 way head was the attractive feature for me as I like to switch between Video & Stills. The head fluidity is surprising given the price, I didn't expect it to be as smooth as it is. Its not the lightest tripod in the market but I much prefer to have a robust and sturdy tripod when operating a 5D MII & 85mm or 70-200mm perhaps. There are a lot of standard features such as grounding, centre column hook to add more weight, bubble level and even a carry case! either way I cannot see why this would not be a useful tool whether it be shooting Video or taking stills.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG13 Grounder Tripod With FX13 Head:
