The Nikon all-in-one AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens features a 16.7x zoom and VR II image stabilization. It's an excellent multi-use lens that can be used anywhere on any subject. The long-range 18 - 300mm focal length can cover everything from wide-angle shots to high-power zoom shots. It delivers the equivalent of 450mm of telephoto range and it's also great for close-up shots - as close as 1.48 feet from your subject at 300mm.

In addition to the obvious advantages of a long 16.7x telephoto zoom range, the lens also employs a zoom-lock switch, and 9-blade rounded diaphragm opening and three ED and aspherical lens elements. The zoom-lock switch helps to keep the lens secure when it is not in use, preventing it from extending and getting bumped or damaged. And utilizing a 9-blade rounded diaphragm allows for beautiful bokeh and blurred background effects in photos with a shallower depth of field.

Having three ED glass elements and three aspherical elements means this lens will provide you and your camera with spectacular image quality, clarity and contrast in every frame you capture. It's suited for all levels of photography and video capture, from amateur to professional. Plus, it touts features like Nikon's Super Integrated Coating, internal focus, silent wave motor and M/A (manual/auto) focus mode switch.

Versatile, Ultra-High Power 16.7x Zoom Lens
Goes from wide-angle (27mm equivalent) all the way to super-telephoto (450mm equivalent) for maximum versatility and reach
Silent Wave Motor (SWM)
A significant innovation in AF lens technology, Nikon's Silent Wave Motor uses ultrasonic (inaudible) vibrations-rather than a gear system-to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation
Zoom Lock Switch
Secures the lens barrel at its minimum focal length, preventing the lens from extending during transport
M/A (Manual/Auto) Focus Mode Switch
This NIKKOR lens features a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens
Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC)
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating enhances light transmission and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare
Internal Focus (IF)
All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel, which allows for a more compact, lightweight construction - as well as a closer focusing distance
Focus to 1.48' at 300mm
Achieve razor-sharp images as close as 1.48 ft from your subject at 300mm
Nikon VR II (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization
Nikon VR II (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization, which is tailored to each lens, enables handheld shooting at up to four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible for dramatically sharper images and HD videos - even in low light
Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
The rounded 9-blade diaphragm renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings

This is the best DX format walk-around zoom lens I have used. I have owned it now for 5 months and I have taken over 3000 photos with it. It is a keeper in my book, though at first I was compelled to search for a zoom with range after noticing some images from the D7100 were soft. Some images can be reasonably sharp, too. Better mastery of the camera will produce better results. I will be trying the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM soon, but I still need a zoom with reach. So far, this is the best option I am finding in the DX format.

There is noticeable distortion at 18mm, which should be no surprise. Below are some images. Below is the same photo taken at 18mm. The first image shows the distortion and the second image shows lens corrections (and other adjustments) using Lightroom 5.

Lightroom 5 overcomes the limitations of the lens I have discovered so far.

The image stabilization works as advertised and has saved some images in low-light.

I'm reading very good reviews about this lens and am wondering if I got a bad copy, but found it soft from around 18-50 and from mid 200's to 300. It's also quite heavy and a little slow. Best to use outdoors or in a sunny place if you're not using a speedlight. Consider the weight of this lens vs. the 18-200 VRII if you're planning on carrying it around all day on a trip. I was hoping this would be my "fun lens," but that's not the case. It's the first lens I've ever returned. For now I'll stick with my 18-200, 70-200 and primes.

I've used this lens for informal portraits, events, nature ie animal/landscapes and taking pictures of the moon. In all of these I've been able to obtain clear and light/color balanced images (with a bit of softening at extreme focal lengths). I'll be taking this lens to Europe and no others because of it's versatility. Now if I can only find a lens that can teach me composition.

Purchased This Lens for my D60. Went to Monument Valley Az, used lens for the first time and got some Awesome Pictures. I was amazed at the quality of both the lens and pictures I took with the lens. Would recommend this to all my friends. Recently I purchased a D7100 to compliment the lens. Now I just received the D7100 today so I need to go shoot for a while then review how they both interact!!

Its big, its heavy, but if you're like me and like things simple, then this is a perfect lens. I like the pics it takes better than the 18-200 for some reason. Not sure exactly why, they seem sharper, brighter and have better bokeh. The VR is nearly silent too which the 18-200 wasn't. I still keep my 35mm 1.8 around for when its dark, or I want something lighter. But otherwise, this lens is all I need.

If you travel and lot and have space for just one lens, without any second thought get this one.

Only drawback is the vignetting when shot at 28 on a full frame body.It gets worse when you attach a polarizer to it.

I purchased this lens for shooting birds and wildlife. I wanted something that I could hand hold instead of my 300 2.8 which I use on a tripod. I have used it on several outings and it has performed well. I like the flexibility of the zoom. I have not used it in low light yet so I'm not sure how well it will perform then but so far very happy with the lens.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I have a Nikon D5000, and a bunch of lenses, incl. 18-200 VRII that I have used the most and LOVED it. I realised that I was mostly using 18-55 and 18-200, but oft had to carry 70-300 lens for greater zoom. After much research, I sold 18-200 & 70-300 lenses and got this one 18-300. It is a tad heavier than 18-200, but great to carry around one less lens now. It is sharp- no surprise there- but it is not as sharp as 18-200 VRII. It's definitely softer at full zoom esp for night photography. But despite those negatives, overall, I am happy with it. Next, I want to get a 16-85mm :) Happy photography everyone!

If you just need more reach than your kit lens is currently giving you, this is your answer! It's excatly like giving your 18-105 kit lens a 3x boost. Smoother than the 70-300 version. What I've found is that I need more light at the pool side. For that, I have to spend twice as much and lug the 70-200 F/2.8... Could be worse. I might need f2, which puts me yet again double. Other than these strange low light crazy times, this lens should give you really great pics. Enjoy!

to have the versatility of a high quality lens varying from wide angle 18mm to notable telephoto of 300mm in a single lens of tolerable weight is quite a feat. The photos are sharp; the VR allows hand held photography in situations that otherwise might require a tripod, the wide lens aperture 77mm allows excellent light penetration. From a Sigma 17-250 to this lens, immediately notice better focus and sharpness. Although is heavier, it's a great look for your camera. Great al around lens.

I Purchased it on my recent visit on NYC.
Fabulous product, completely eased my other lens.
A little bit heavy, so get a good support for it.
But its a great purchase, very happy.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I purchased this lens for my Nikon D5100 as an all-purpose lens, and am so happy. After researching for a few months while searching for a telephoto lens I stumbled upon the AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.
As a journalist, who often has to take photos for print, this is a great lens to have on my camera, so that I don't have to switch between lenses.

It was well worth the price, and I'd absolutely recommend it!

Comments about Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

Used as an everyday carry lens. Pictures of kiddo, pets and landscape. Yes, the lens is heavy and no, it does not do EVERYTHING exceptionally well. But, this is my favorite lens as it DOES do everything VERY well. Come on, from 18-300? Are you kidding me? No, I'm not. I love this lens and would not trade it for anything. If you are going on a trip this is the one and ONLY lens I would/will carry. The increased weight of this lens is minimized when you consider you can leave the others at home.

Wow! This lens does it all- and at a moderate weight to carry around.

Some reviews have been less than the top rating, but the end result is subjective, and the results I have been getting produce photos that still gain the wow factor from others. This is what I am after, not finite quality that is designed to blow up to billboard size.

I would recommend that all Nikon users have this lens handy!
