"Look a likes" are not as they seem. Like most products, there are different prices for seemingly similar products. Shopping the web I found a camera with a fairly popular name (brand) at half the price of the brand I eventually purchased. It worked horrible, after 24 hours attempting to make it work as advertised and calling their tech support twice and having no luck I returned it. (Fortunately the company stood behind their return policy and I received a full refund).
The Swann Camera is truly P & P as advertised, they host the DDNS free and I can see it on the internet on other computers. The color, resolution and motion are all far superior to the other! Swann all-in-one IP Camera

B&H price point was attractive and they delivered sooner than expected. I'm very happy with them. The product is a different story.

This is the third of these cameras that I've purchased. The first two (2012) were configured and working quickly. Unfortunately, Swann totally changed the user interface for this newer model (2013) and the three of them do not work together in any Swann provided software. In fact, the newer monitoring software provided by Swann doesn't find either the older cameras or even the newer one. Also, Swann, for whatever reason changed how to configure the cameras and some of the settings are totally opposite from the older cameras. So, previous experience with setting up these cameras is actually a penalty. I believe that there might be a firmware issue as well as I cannot seem to be able to change the port of the new camera from the default 80 to any other port and still be able to communicate with the camera. So, 80 it must be. The older models have no such issue. The new monitorins software is therefore junk to me since it cannot find the camera. The emails that the newer camera sends have totally different sender and subjects.

One thing that isn't obvious from the available Marketing literature is that some camera feature/functionality is only available within Internet explorer and not using Firefox or Chrome.

In summary, the camera is worth the price that I paid, but it was quite frustrating to get set up - especially with previous experience.

Comments about Swann ADS-440 All-in-One Day/Night Pan/Tilt Network IP Camera:

Easy set up, had it working within an hour. The plastic mount is definitely not one you're going to want to rely on, but it's a simple design that you can replicate using metal. I bought this for my boyfriend and he also got 2 more. They are around the house for watching pets and anything / one else that might walk up. Very clear picture, he watches it on his iPhone throughout the day. The app is simple and the rotation is pretty awesome. The rotation is very quiet so if someone were to walk up, they wouldn't hear the camera turning to follow them. I would definitely recomment this camera! Now that I've seen it's functions in person, I think everyone needs one!

Comments about Swann ADS-440 All-in-One Day/Night Pan/Tilt Network IP Camera:

I have an 27 inch iMac running OS 10.9.1, the latest Apple OS. I purchased 2 ADS-440 cameras because they are supposed to work with Macs. They don't.

The CD that came with the cameras did not have any Mac software even though the enclosed literature said it was included. I had to call tech support twice to get a download. After downloading the software, It would not detect the camera on my network. I called Swann Tech Support a third time. They had me try a number of things including trying another (my own) RJ45 cable. I then electronically gave them permission to operate my computer remotely. They tried everything but could not get the camera working with my computer and network. They then suggested I try the camera with a Windows based PC and call them back. Are You Kidding??? I returned the product.

Comments about Swann ADS-440 All-in-One Day/Night Pan/Tilt Network IP Camera:

This camera is pretty good for the price. I use it to watch out my front window. At night, if using behind a window, you will have to turn off the IR mode and just turn up the brightness setting and hope you have a streetlight within 30 to 50 feet. The window will just reflect the IR back at the camera and mask out the picture. If using outside or indoor monitoring, the IR is perfect. Software is a little glitchy when trying to use Internet Explorer. The activex control will not install for some reason. Tried Windows XP, 7, 8.1 and IE 8, 10, & 11 with no success so far. Will need to get with their tech support and see if they have a fix. I was able to setup port forwarding and DDNS for my static IP address. Viewing in Firefox over the Internet is working OK. IE has a few more tools like Grid View that is not supported in Firefox. I also downloaded a new version of their software for ADS-440 but cannot get it to work at all with my camera. Will have to see what tech support says about this as well. Hopefully the Pan and Tilt gears will last for years and not fail like my 44X Vanguard did. I had 3 Vanguards and all broke the same way. These were $300+ cameras with excellent picture quality but horrible durability. Hope the Swann product has a better track record. If you are not computer/router savvy, you may find difficulty in setting this up on your own. I recommend setting up several Pan and Tilt presets to expedite Panning the Camera. Presets helps with avoiding latency issues in the Pan and Tilt command. To avoid using all of your bandwidth adjust the Framerate to a low number.

The software you can find for the iphone is very simple almost primitive but it works, hence the 4 stars and not 5. If you want to keep an eye on your pets or house while away this guy is the perfect tool to do so.

I believe the Swann wireless security cameras a amazing! The first time setting up was a bit confusing, the software and instruction booklet are rather simple, and we installed three more in no time. Now we can check in on our pets, and even my baby chickens out in the hen house, without my even being at home! I think it should come with an outdoor mounting covering to make it more outdoor friendly, yet under an eve, or porch will wok for my purposes. I highly recommend this to anyone who has children and pets, or an elderly loved one, for peace of mind, as well as for security 24/7 from anywhere in the world!
