Galerie Prestige Smooth Pearl Paper (8.5x11" - 250 Sheets) from Ilford features a wide color gamut and a smooth pearl finish. The paper is compatible with both dye- and pigment-based ink systems and provides the look and feel of a traditional photograph. The paper's 310 g/m2 weight provides a heavy, professional quality medium. The nanoporous instant dry surface provides maximum ink absorption and allows for worry-free paper handling right out of the printer.

I have used the old Ilford Galerie Pro Inkjet Smooth Pearl for several years and was not happy when it was discontinued…however…the "NEW" paper is worth the extra money. The printer profile from Ilford is spot on and the very first print of my lab standard file is perfect. The gray scale range has expanded, the black & white is more pure and the color is excellent for skin tones. Well done Ilford!

Let me just say right off the bat that the Ilford Prestige Galerie Smooth Pearl is my new go to paper, replacing the Epson Luster that I have used for years with my Epson 3880 printer. The surface is similar to both the Epson and Ilford luster papers but is just slightly smoother. The result is that the fine details are a little finer, with less detail getting lost in the texture of the surface.
The Ilford Prestige Galerie Smooth Pearl paper along with the Ilford profile combine to yield more shadow detail than the Epson Luster paper and profile which by comparison look blocked up. (That is partly because the Epson Luster profile is not very good and if you use the Ilford Galerie Lustre profile with the Epson Luster paper, you will get better results on your Epson Luster paper.)
The Ilford paper is also thick which gives it a great substantial feel in the hand especially in the larger sizes where papers can seem flimsy. Also the back of each sheet is left blank unlike the Epson papers which say Epson on the back of each sheet, which I personally dislike, and the back of the Ilford seems less like plastic to the touch than the Epson Luster does. I think Ilford is showing the pro and artistic communities some nice respect in these matters.
So although this Ilford Prestige Galerie Smooth Pearl paper costs more than the Epson Luster I like every aspect of it better than the Epson Luster. Great fine details, beautiful saturated color, shadow detail, surface and feel in the hand.
