    I bought this computer thinking that it had a specific solid-state drive of 24 GB on which the OS was installed. However, upon booting the computer, I noticed that it took a very long time to be operable. This is because the OS boots off the spinning HDD rather than the SSD. I also noticed long wake up times in spite of the advertised "Instant On" feature. The computer came loaded with a lot of junk as well that made it feel cheap and clunky to use.

    My primary reason for purchasing this computer was the need for a small, lightweight, and easily-portable Windows 7 laptop. With Windows 8 taking over the market, this was the best option I could find for a reasonable-enough price. However, after using my previous laptop that had a SSD, I could not stand the bloat-ware and slow speed of this ASUS machine.

    Deciding to try something I had never done before, I removed the built in HDD and replaced it with a Kingston SSD. I did a fresh installation of Windows 7 using a free, legal download of the OS (did NOT include key) which was burned onto a DVD. In the BIOS (hit F2 at boot) I set it to boot from an external DVD drive. Upon completing this setting, I was able to load Windows 7 cleanly on the new SSD. Keep in mind all the drivers were missing at this point, so I went to the ASUS website and downloaded all the necessary drivers for this model of laptop. Upon installing them and restarting the machine several times, I had a very FAST and CLEAN laptop that outperformed my old laptop for boot and wake up in spite of the i3 processor (old laptop had i7 with virtual 8 cores). The activation key code comes attached to the power supply and I was able to successfully activate Windows 7 using this code.

    After completing these steps, I am very happy with the laptop and have had no trouble with it at all. All the drivers provided by ASUS appear to be working perfectly. My wake up time is about 2 seconds and my boot time is in the 20-30 second range.

    The bottom line: if you are willing to go through the effort of changing out the HDD with a SSD and installing Windows 7 and drivers yourself, you will be very happy with this computer's performance. Keep in mind you will need a mini hex screw driver to remove the bottom screws.

    The computer runs very cool and quiet, and the backlit keyboard is a very handy feature. It is thin, lightweight, and easily-portable for taking it on the go. Long battery life and a decent-size screen round out this laptop's great features.

    OK, first i would say it looks nice, but here are several things i am not satisfied:
    1. ASUS Pre-installed a lot of their own useless software, cost me some time to uninstall them;
    2. i found the power button is not installed vertically;
    3. the Win 7 is very old, and have to download a lot of data to update it;
    4. i found the USB port may have problems, the left one can't mount my WD portable hard disk (model:my passport, USB 3.0). hope ASUS can help me solve the problem;
    5. the keyboad is a bit hard;

      Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

      I don't care much for Windows 8 and was seeking an affordable laptop to replace my outdated and very heavy Vista OS.
      This Zenbook is everything I hoped for. It's light, fast, looks great, and has Windows 7. The Wireless set up was easy and flawless. I loaded up a MS Office 10 Power Point with no problems.
      Pretty much all I need for home and office is in this very affordable ultrabook.

        Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

        This is a perfect 13" computer... extremely light and thin. It also has Windows 7 so you don't have to deal with the nightmare which is Windows 8! Love the keyboard as well - super comfortable and back-lit. The touchpad seems to be overly sensitive, picking up the heat from my palm at times, and my Apple earphones' microphone doesn't work with this computer. Overall extremely pleased with my new ASUS.

          Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

          I am using this laptop for surfing and writing documents.

          There are many great things about this computer:
          All metal beautiful design.
          Mac-quality clickpad.
          Great sound.

          What's not so great: really not anything important. I should pick out one, so this is the only thing that has bothered me. When you pick up the laptop fast, the screen flops back a little, like a baby that can't hold it's neck straight. That's a small price to pay for the $500 you save over an equivalent Windows machine, or $1000 you save over the equivalent Mac!

          You can download autoruns and get rid of the McAfee anti-virus virus software (not a typo: It controls viruses by being the biggest virus on the block). Then install Microsoft Security Essentials, and you are good to go. Note this is mainly for an advanced user. If you are a newbie or lower intermediate, you may not be able to clean up the software properly. In that case you may experience a slow machine because the I3 processor is equivalent to a 100 HP motor in a small car. If you know how to drive a stick you will have good power. But with all the preloaded software, this machine could run like a Kia Rio with automatic transmission. It will get you there but you might not enjoy it...

            Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

            It's not the fastest, but it's the best for the money. The DB31 is a scaled-back version of the Zenbook. I think it is optimal. You are getting the same case and keyboard as you would with the high-spec Zenbook for 1/2 the price!

            Pros: absolutely beautiful machine. The sound is really great. The intel I3 is all the power most users will need. It's fine unless you are doing gaming or software development. The touchpad is Mac-quality, and that's saying a lot. Once you get used to it you will never mouse again.

            Cons: It does take some updating to bring the Windows version up to speed. Not a problem unless you have a slow internet connection. The review that mentioned the extra programs was misleading in my opinion. The software pre-loaded is mainly "clutter-ware", lots of icons, but they are lightweight apps. They don't in general start background processes, so if you don't click them, they present no performance reduction.

              I have used my new Asus Zenbook laptop for about 2 weeks now and am very happy with it overall. It is sleek and well made, and above all, light in weight. Many features are included (such as bluetooth), and I have twice as much ram and gigabytes than with the old, very heavy laptop I had before. I would recommend this laptop to anyone.

                  Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

                  This UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3 arrived on time in good condition. We intend to use it when traveling, so we wanted a small, light-weight laptop with a reasonable battery life.

                  It seems to work well and has a much longer battery life than my old laptop.

                  I was not surprised at its low weight, since that was included in the specifications, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the plug-in power supply was so small, light, and compact.

                  Note that (as stated in the product description) this laptop does not include an Ethernet adapter or DVD. The lack of a DVD is a bit of a pain when installing software, so if you are buying this you might want to get an external DVD to go with it, especially if you are not a computer whiz.

                  Also note that it runs Windows 7, not Windows 8. For me that was a plus, but it might not be for others. (It doesn't have a touch-enabled screen.)

                  I can't comment on use for playing music or watching videos.

                  ASUS Zenbook Ultrabook is a great purchase for traveling and comfort work at home. The computer looks awesome - thin and smart. Quick enough, but not for advanced users and graphics. The price and the quality are well balanced and this is a right option for those who are traveling a lot and need a stylish-looking, reliable, light and compact device. The screen is matte and keypad is lighted - features of rather expensive laptops.Very satisfied by quick delivery by B&H! I like it so much - it really became one of my best friends!

                  Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

                    I bought that ultrabook for presentations and office usage.
                    It's extremly thick and light-weight (just 1.45kg).
                    The charger is very small and light-weight too.
                    Great for traveling / daily carry-on.
                    The Intel i3 core is a little bit slow and there is no option to add RAM (4GB).

                      Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

                      This was to replace a serviceable but heavy & clunky laptop for general use, with easy portability, weight and reasonable price as top priorities.

                      This fit the bill and is a very good value. The build quality is wonderful and the design is sleek and light.

                      As noted by other reviewers, the keyboard is a bit weak with some awkward key placements--it does take some getting used to.
                      There is a proprietary power management utility that seems to work great; startup is very fast and there is minimal battery loss in standby mode (which it enters automatically just by closing the unit). Charges quickly, too!

                      Features I like:
                      Lightweight and sleek
                      Very attractive aluminum body that resists fingerprints
                      backlit keyboard
                      Good power management
                      Windows 7 (not ready to upgrade just yet!)

                      Could be improved:
                      Keyboard, especially certain key placements
                      Case corners are very angular, could be rounded/softened a bit
                      Multiple updates & reboots were required out of the box.

                      Overall, this is a great value and I think it would be difficult to find a better price-value ratio for a new entry-level ultrabook.

                            Nice and cheap ultrabook. However, it is not fast and the screen is not really amazing. It comes with win7 which I think is better than win8. I would invest more on the same model but Intel core 7.

                            The zenbook is an incredible work of art. The quality is tangible. I am happy but power-users may want to spring for the i7 processor. The i3 is a tad slow, but sufficient for my mobile purposes.

                            Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

                            I bought this specifically for use on travel. For that purpose, pretty much can't beat this for the price. Light-weight was the primary requirement for me. This has the same weight (2.9 lbs) as a 11" vivobook, so a larger screen for the same weight is always welcome.
                            The form factor is similar to certain Chromebooks and the MacBook Air, and for me this wins out because for traveling, it makes less sense to have a Chromebook as you may not always have internet (which renders the Chromebook useless); and the MacBook Air would cost me twice as much as this, at least.
                            The trackpad on this is very nice -- the two-finger scroll on this reminds me fondly of a Macbook, being extremely smooth and responsive. It is lightyears better than the trackpad on a Lenovo Thinkpad which has some serious lag.

                            The spec/computer itself isn't as fast as I had hoped/expected, but that might be because I'm used to a good home desktop setup with SSD. Another down side is the screen resolution, which is 1366x768 which is standard for a small widescreen display (11" MacBook Air has this), but the 13" MacBook Air can go up to 1400x900 I believe, so this is a bit disappointing.
                            Last con to point out is the keyboard. The power button is at an awkward place that could be pressed accidentally. I also have a personal dislike of fn keys and having Function keys do different things based on whether the fn key is held.

                            I would most likely not recommend this as a daily-use laptop, just because it's not anywhere near high end spec, you'll certainly notice a discount on performance/speed of the computer in general, as well as screen resolution. However it's just about the perfect travel laptop, for its price.

                              Battery life is not great in the 4-5 hours range. Had expected a bit more for the buck.

                                Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

                                I bought this computer to be my travel computer but I like it so much I find myself using it much more than expected. It's light weight with a comfortable keypad...which is lighted...this alone makes it worth the lack of a fancy sound systems and dvd devices. I have no complaints and would definitely recommend it to family and friends.

                                Comments about ASUS UX32A-DB31 Zenbook 13.3" Ultrabook Computer:

                                Having done extensive research on what I was looking for I settled on the Asus Zenbook. It is exactly as advertized. Great keyboard, easy to see in the dark. The resolution is much superior to my last laptop.

                                Only concern is with the software. Windows was dropping. Explorer wasn't working properly. I imagine both are software issues, not computer concerns.
