Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. Lee Grad ND filters are part clear, part neutral density (available in grades of .3 (1 stop), .45 (1.5 stops), .6 (2 stops), .75 (2.5 stops), .9 (3 stops)). They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often imperceptibly. A neutral density .6-to-clear, with a two stop differential, will generally compensate the average bright sky-to-foreground situation and is also the most popular density of the series.
Lee graduated neutral density filters are available with soft or hard transitions from dark to clear. The soft edge is recommended for wide angle lenses and the hard edge is recommended for normal and longer lenses.
Lee graduated resin filters are 4 x 6" (100 x 150mm) x 2mm thick. The 6" length allows for adjustment of the filter within the holder.
Neutral Density factors:
ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop)
ND.45 (exposure adjustment = 1.5 stops)
ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops)
ND.75 (exposure adjustment = 2.5 stops)
ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops)

Comments about LEE Filters 4x6" Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Resin Filter - Hard Edge:
Brought this one to Rocky Mountain and it worked great! I didn't see any difference to the more expensive Singh-Ray product. The only concern is the thickness is different to the soft edge version. It becomes a little bit tight when mounted on the holder.

Fantastic for waterfront horizons and landscape work. The hard edge makes it a bit specific, but you can't beat it for ocean views.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x6" Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Resin Filter - Hard Edge:
I've tried filters from HiTech, Schneider, and Lee, and I've found the Lee filters to be the best. I use this in my Cokin Z holder on my Canon 24-70, and it has NO vignetting. This is perfect for knocking down the exposure on a bright sky.

This filter does the perfect job of allowing the subject to have the correct exposure in spite of a bright background. This also allows the sky to be of a true blue color without darkening foreground structures.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x6" Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Resin Filter - Hard Edge:
I studied for some time trying to make a choice in manufacture, strength and hard or soft transition line to give the best overall results. [...] seems much clearer than cheaper NDGrads I have purchased before. The 4x6" size is ideal for hand holding on full frame cameras with a wide angle lens. I really didn't want to buy but the one filter originally but the quality is so good that I feel I may need to invest in other strengths for various applications. Yes, I would buy another LEE.

Comments about LEE Filters 4x6" Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Resin Filter - Hard Edge:
It's my first filter of this kind.
It requires some attention while handling and inserting into the filter holder (I have fear to leave some dirty from my fingers on it...).
I saw impressive pictures taken with those filters, I look forward to enjoy it!

Need to purchase a filter holder to the camera. Ok for tripod use just holding the filter infront of the lens.
