The 256 GB m4 2.5" Solid State Drive with Data Transfer Kit (7mm) from Crucial combines an m4 solid state internal drive with a kit that facilitates quick and simple data transfer from one drive to another. The SSD has a SATA interface and is capable of transfer speeds of up to 6 Gbps. It is designed with high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, optimized NAND management and advanced controller technology. Unlike traditional hard drives, the SSD features no moving parts, which provides a quieter and a cooler operation, as well as better durability.

The data transfer kit makes it simple to copy everything, including operating system, data, email settings and applications, to your m4 SSD. The kit comes with the EZ Gig III Cloning and Imaging software if you use Windows and the Shirt Pocket SuperDuper! software if you are working with a Mac. For convenience, the kit also consists of a USB to SATA cable.

The standard SATA interface dramatically improves your computer's data transfer speeds for bandwidth-demanding applications like audio and video. It also improves everyday operations like viewing and editing photos and other media, gaming, communications, productivity and security.

Blazing Data Transfer Speeds
The m4 SSD offers laptop or notebook users fast sequential read speeds of up to 500 MBps and sequential write speeds of up to 260 MBps.
Latest and Greatest
Designed for client computing, the m4 SSD delivers faster boot and application load times for mobile and desktop users alike. It is a low power, lightweight and a durable SSD. It empowers high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, advanced controller technology, optimized NAND management and the second-generation SATA 6 Gbps interface. The technology dramatically improves data transfers for bandwidth-demanding applications.
Advantages of SSD
SSDs provide many benefits over traditional hard drives. They consume less power and generate less heat. Because they have no moving parts, SSDs are quiet, portable, lightweight and they provide a rugged and reliable operation even in the most demanding operating environments.
Compatibility
The m4 SSD employs a standard hard drive interface and dimension that makes it an easy storage upgrade for most notebooks.
Easy Transfer
The data transfer kit makes it simple to copy everything, including operating system, data, email settings and applications, to your m4 SSD. It is designed to upgrade your notebook drive in just three simple steps. The kit includes the EZ Gig III Cloning and Imaging software for Windows users, Shirt Pocket's SuperDuper! software for Mac users and a USB to SATA cable.

Does not work with my laptop (Windows 8)

Comments about Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5" Solid State Drive with Data Transfer Kit (7mm):

The procedure is simple; it took about 1h+ to finish the data transfer; however, the cloned SSD cannot start Windows 8. My laptop is Acer Aspire V5-171-6422. The software company acknowledged that some Windows 8 user may have problem and they are working on this issue; the problem is expected to be fixed in the next version of software; it may take a few months. Very frustrating.
            To summarize:
            1. the SSD does not have technical problems.
            2. the software may not work with some Windows 8 PC, and currently there is no solution (as of 1/29/2013)
            3. There is a "newer" data transfer kit which features USB 3.0 (this package is USB 2.0 and no wonder it takes 1h+ to finish the process). Why would you use USB 2.0 cable with SATA III SSD? Suppose you have a new PC with USB 3.0 support.

Comments about Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5" Solid State Drive with Data Transfer Kit (7mm):

Bought this to upgrade new Dell XPS desktop (i7 3770K CPU with16 GB ram) I just purchased. Upgrade went smooth, with no problems. Used the included software to clone the drive that came with new Dell computer. Very noticeable difference in speed after upgrade. System is very quick. Still have 160 GB free, after installing Photoshop CS5, MS Office 2010, DPP and a number of other software. Quit satisfied and would recommend this drive as a good choice.

Comments about Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5" Solid State Drive with Data Transfer Kit (7mm):

This is my second SSD I've put into a laptop. My last one was and Intel 64 MB drive, and I did it myself with a free drive cloning tool. That was a total pain compared to the data transfer kit that Crucial supplies. No nonsense, no fiddling around at all, just a couple clicks and I had a clone. Highly recommended. The drive itself performs exactly as you see in the various benchmarks - an insane speed upgrade. It now takes me 29 seconds to go from power-on to signed in, everything stopped spinning, and Photoshop fully launched. Used to be several minutes.
