Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens - Close-up lenses are for quick and easy close-up photography. The close-up lens is screwed on to the front of a lens like a filter. Close-up lenses 250D and 500D have two achromatic elements to correct chromatic aberrations. They do not degrade the high optical performance of EF lenses.
The 250D is suited for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 30 to 135mm. The 500D is geared for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 70 to 300mm.

Great for close ups. Works with most any lens. Get the largest size and then get the step down rings to match all your lenses.

I used this lens on my 18mm-200mm non-macro lens. The difference was most inmpressive. I now do not need to buy a separate micro lens. I itend to buy another one for a smaller diameter lens.I would resommend this lens to most anyone.

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
While it's not as cool as a macro lens, this close-up lens is part of my travel bag. It produces sharp images. A must for people who want to do some "macros" while traveling.

Great value to add close up to my Nikon 18-200 VRII. Works great, and is cheaper and much less to carry than a macro lens

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
Always a bit leery of add on lenses, still I wanted to see if I could add macro capabilities to my Panasonic GH1 and the 14-140 mm lens. With a lens filter thread of 62mm, I used a step-up ring to attached the 72mm 500D.
Zoomed all the way (which is how one generally uses macros and zoom lenses), I found no obvious problems across the frame, flat field, no aberrations, sharp focus. The minimum focus distance at 140mm is about 8 inches from the front of the macros lens. The magnification is about 1:1 (in 35mm terms), with the image being 35mm wide in the short dimension of a 3:2 format image. (This compares to an image width of 23mm with my Olympus Zukio 50mm Macro lens, which can focus much closer.)
So while this is not specifically what Canon had in mind, it works nicely with the Panasonic GH1 and 14-140mm lens with my .

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
I heven't actually tried a dedicated macro lens, but was very pleased with macro shots taken with this on my Canon 28-135. The DOF seems narrow, something I was expecting. I'm very pleased with the clarity and the convenience of being able to take it on and off as needed. It fits nicely with my Canon lens hood.

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
This lens is a useful addition to the camera bag. It allows some really tight close ups that I would otherwise miss, without the bulk of carrying a full macro around all the time. The shots so far have been crisp with good definition and clarity. So far, no complaints.

This is a great macro attachment for your zoom. It is softer on the outside edges than a dedicated macro lens but for the price & versatility a great product.

This is a great way to take close ups and although its not a macro lens, it comes close for what I want to do. Now I can spend the money I saved on the 70-200 2.8 zoom that I have been looking at

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
This close up lens may not take the place of a macro lens, but for the price, it is worth playing around with. I couldn't afford a macro lens right now, so I decided to try out the close up lens and it does a pretty decent job with my Canon 28-135mm lens. Most of my photos were clear and sharp even without the tripod. You don't have to wait until you save up several hundred dollars for that lens to try macro photography!

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
Using with my Nikon D90 and Nikon 18x200mm zoom lens. Provides less than 1:1 image but good enough for my needs. Maximum magnification at infinity and good distance from front of lens. Using to make reasonable copies of 35 mm slides mounted on a light table. Not as good as a high res scan but good enough for snap shots.

While on vacation in the Caymans I was photographing an Iguana. I used my new close up lens and the photographs are awesome. It is as if I crawled right up into her eye.

I just ordered the second unit, my wife won't share HER Canon 500D with me she uses this on her Nikon D90,with her 18-105 and 70-210 f4.0 and does not use a macro lens. I like it because it is a great addition to my Nikkor 55mm F2.8 Micro lens. It gives great clarity and sharpness in wildflower photographs. Gives another range of view with only carrying 2 lenses. I ended up wishing I had it today while out shooting Colorado Columbine close up's. Great addition
I have used it with my D300 and the 16-85mm lens with great results. Have also used it with the 70-300VR NIkon lens.

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
I'm a serious photo-enthusiast working toward selling my work as a supplemental source of income. The 500D gives me a bit of extra magnification in addition to my Sigma 150 macro, and is tack sharp. Definitely took some getting used to, but works wonderfully. Between 1-2x life size, the range in which I work now, I notice no image loss on my d80.

Comments about Canon 72mm 500D Close-up Lens:
Well built, excellent quality. No noticeable loss in IQ on my D80 with Sigma 150 macro. I haven't experimented with anything beyond 2X life size, but for the bugs and flowers I've shot between 1:1 and 2:1 this is an excellent lightweight option to get a bit of extra mag without extension tubes. Won't give the mag of a full kenko set, but not too shabby!
