Comments about Samyang 8mm f/2.8 Fish-eye Lens for Sony E-mount (Black):

In my view this lens is a little gem - if you like the fisheye projection this lens class has and if you're happy with ALWAYS placing the "horizon" (or what looks like it) in the middle of your pictures when taking a photo (be ready to use the NEX-7 digital leveler a lot and knee down often to get interesting views - see the two examples for more and less fisheye-y look depending on subject).I owned and frequently used the Nikon 10.5/2.8 and the Samyang 8/3.5 for Sony A-Mount before, both on their native DSLR and with converters on the Sony NEX. A direct comparison between the 3 lenses on their native camera and also with adapters on the NEX-7 clearly exposed the Samyang 8/2.8 as the outstanding winner in every aspect:- Unbelievably and totally surprisingly sharp in the extreme corners, usable at F2.8 already (but needs to stop down to become much sharper than the Nikon at same apertures) - Circles in the corners of the Samyang 8/2.8 remain almost circular (while they are egg-shaped on the Nikon 10.5)- Almost no CA out-of-camera- Largest field of view (some degrees more than the Nikon!)- Extremely compact and lightweight (makes the lens hard to find in a stuffed bag!)To be fair: the Nikon 10.5/2.8 performs bad on NEX-7 with adapters (poor sharpness and huge CA in the extreme corners) but delivers good results on a Nikon D90 thanks to Nikon in-camera correction, removing most of the issues, namely CA. Also the Nikon has better center sharpness/resolution due to the different projection. But in my view the overall resolution/projection and corner sharpness sets the Samyang one class better than the Nikon DX fisheye - for about half the price!CONS: The Samyang 8/2.8 frequently produces a purple cast in the corners when used with the NEX-7 - this is a typical issue of the NEX-7 sensor/micro lenses with some UWA lenses - the good message is there is software specialised to reduce/eliminate this in post-processing but I'd prefer it was not there in the first place. The issue is not present with the lower res. Sony 16MP Cameras like the NEX-5. The build definitely is plasticky but solid. Some (correctable) light fall-off in the corners seems to be there. The Samyang is manual focus manual aperture and the focus control shows more resistance than any other lens I own - but this is just perfect for a fish-eye: manually set to the sweet F8 and "lock" to the hyperfocal distance of around 0.5m to have a DOF from 0.3m to infinity all year long.Infrared photography is also fine - I couldn't ever see an IR spot issue with the Samyang and sharpness into the corners is as perfect as in visible light - magenta cast would not matter in IR but my IR-converted camera is a NEX-5 anyways.

Comments about Samyang 8mm f/2.8 Fish-eye Lens for Sony E-mount (Black):

I purchased this for my Sony NEX 5N and NEX-7 cameras. I was using the conversion lenses for wide angle and fisheye mounted to the original 16mm pancake lens. This lens is a true fisheye but doesn't allow for autofocus or auto exposure. This isn't a handicap however. The light gathering abilities and the wide depth of field more than make up for the lack of electronic connections.

Comments about Samyang 8mm f/2.8 Fish-eye Lens for Sony E-mount (Black):

Fantastic lens, very well built and great size for NEX. However has bad Purple fringing issues on NEX-7.

Have tested on NEX-5N and NEX-3C also and no issues on this what so ever, fantastic sharp images.
