Questions? Ask our experts:

The black Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap from BosStrap is designed to carry a heavier DSLR camera. This two part system consists of the BosStrap plus a Generation 3 BosTail (G3 Tail). The 12" G3 Tail attaches to the left strap lug of your camera. The Double Safety Lock G3 Tail allows separating your camera from the 1.5" sling strap only when you want. Note that the BosStrap G3 is 1.5" wide whereas the BosStrap G3 LT is only 1" wide (G3 version).

Since the tail attaches to your camera, your tripod socket is never used allowing you to both use a tripod when you want or place the camera on a flat surface. When in use, this strap allows you to easily slide your camera up to shooting position and, when done, slide it down where it gently rests against your hip. The strap is 64" long, allowing plenty of room for your camera to hang over your shoulder. Another benefit of the tail is the lack of metal parts that would scratch either the body or the LCD of your camera. Also, it doesn't matter if you're left or right handed since the strap works for either orientation. And, it works in either horizontal or vertical format.

This system leaves you hands free to pursue other endeavors such as using a computer, making a phone call or eating. There are no buckles, screws or fittings to deal with. Neither is there a shoulder pad that generally needs to be adjusted from time to time. Just attach the tail to the left lug of your camera and the tail to your BosStrap and you're ready to go. The Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap comes with a one-year replacement warranty and with the exception of one part of the G3 Tail made in Sweden, the rest is made in the USA, including the thread.

The G3 System is designed specifically for heavier cameras
The G3 System Tail is 1.5" wide
Patent Pending Double Safety Lock G3 Tail allow separating camera from the 1.5" sling strap only when you want
Tripod socket is always available; camera can sit on a flat surface
BosStraps are 64" long not including the G3 Tail
Long G3 Tail - allows more angular adjustment of the 1.5" sling strap to fine tune comfort
No metal parts in the G3 Tail; no scratching the LCD or the camera body
Attaches to the left camera strap lug; easily switch from handheld to tripod without removing anything
No straps in the way when shooting horizontal or vertical; strap does not interfere with controls
No shoulder pad is required; nothing to constantly adjust
Comfortable, smooth, strong 1.5" nylon seat belt webbing distributes the camera weight
Frees both hands; camera safely remains at your side when not in use
Because camera rests at hip (pivot point on leg), there is minimal movement of camera when walking
The BosStrap G3 can support over 60 pounds
Easy to stow; simply wrap the BosStrap G3 around your lens or camera-nothing needs to be removed

No fittings, buckles or screws to disconnect

I chose the BosStrap over Black Rapid straps primarily to preserve the swift tripod mounting, and switched over from an OpTech neck strap simply to save my neck, as I often carry a Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 mounted on a D300.The BosStrap does precisely what I wished of it, easing the neck-strain and carrying the camera comfortably at my hip. Assembling the strap was simple, but I did consult the online instructions, as they were larger/easier to read than the enclosed documentation. I've tested this quite extensively since its purchase about two months ago, and have noted the following:1. After proper adjustment, the strap securely and unobtrusively holds the camera relatively snugly against the hip with the lens pointed back; it's a comfortable position, and the lens is relatively protected.2. The camera can swivel a bit when I'm moving quickly, but my conversations with Black Rapid owners have yielded that their experience is similar.3. I've noted the tendency of the strap to gravitate toward my neck, but this is a given without a non-slip pad. One can be attached if desired, but I haven't felt the need, and I have carried a very heavy combo with the BosStrap for hours. (I am a male, and do encourage ladies to consult the other reviews by women, as I can't speak to comfort for the fair sex.)4. I REALLY appreciate the freedom to slap the camera onto the tripod without complications or added accessories. This is a HUGE selling point for me.Summary: I'm immensely pleased with this purchase. The strap is secure and comfortable, flexible in the ways I need it to be, and likely to last very well.

I own a Nikon D5100 with my largest lens being the 70-300mm and this strap handle it easily.
I went for this particular strap because tripod remains available throughout and am happy with that decision. I am also very pleased to no longer have the camera bouncing around on my chest.
I am a little bit disappointed with the strap which appears to be sliding a bit - this may need adjusting by either lengthening or shortening it. I suspect the latter and will be testing it out. So this may be my adjustments and not the strap.
Overall I a very happy and I was very impressed with the service. Shipping to New Zealand was supposed to take between 15 and 25 working days but the product was at my front door on the 8th working day after date of purchase!

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

This sling is worn across your chest and the camera hangs down at your side next to your hand, ready for use. When you pick up the camera to shoot, the camera easily slides along the strap to your eye level. It is very convenient, and it works very well. The main thing that separates this sling strap from similar other brands is that it hooks to the side lug on the camera. Most of the other brands hook to the tripod socket. That presents two problems: 1) the connection at the tripod socket could accidentally unscrew causing your camera to drop to the ground. 2) in order to put the camera on a tripod, you must disconnect it from the sling. BosStrap solves both these problems. Since it does not hook to the tripod socket, the socket is always free for use while the camera is still on the sling.
The only problem I had with this product was that it was difficult to initially set up the connection to the lug on the camera, mainly because the instructions are very poorly illustrated. It was like solving a puzzle, but once set up correctly, subsequent connecting and disconnecting the camera is very easy.
I use this sling for DSLR's and also micro 4/3 cameras. On one wildlife shoot, I carried two DSLR's at the same time -- one camera with a long lens on the sling, and the other camera with a wide angle lens on a conventional neck strap, and I was able to use them both without getting the straps tangled.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

Really makes it easy to handle a larger camera. Allows you to shoot without fiddling with straps getting in front of the lens then when you need your hands for something else (like grabbing another camera) you can let it dangle to your side and it's out of your way. Well made.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

I like the idea of the over the shoulder sling strap. The camera rides comfortably at my side, securely over my shoulder, and slides quickly to eye level. This is a really good strap.

The one thing I need to get used to is positioning the plastic buckles, which are used to adjust the length. If they end up on my shoulder, it's pretty uncomfortable until I slide them out of the way.

Otherwise, I've used the strap for hours at a time pretty comfortably.

The least secure of all side straps I have tried for my Sony A-99 and Ziess lens. My kit is just too heavy to be trusted hanging by only one of the camera strap clips.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

This is an amazing strap. It does not attach to the tripod socket, the most important factor for someone who uses a monopod to shoot every photo. Having luged around a heavy SLR for the past ten years, even heavier now with a full-frame, this is a miracle. The weight of the camera is off my neck and onto my shoulder, making the camera feel as if it weighs 3 ounces. I can carry the camera most of the day without problem. It cannot cause any harm to my tripod screw socket, I can use my monopod (that has a quick-release plate) at will. Cannot praise this strap enough. Yes, it is overpriced, but no other company makes a similar item. Once used, it becomes indispensable.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

This is a much easier way to carry camera. The weight is on the shoulder and not the neck. I have hike several miles of hilly trails at state park near home with a Nikon D8oo and 80-400mm lens attached and never had any neck strain. Even with backpack camera bag there was no problem bringing camera to my eye to shoot.

I had another single point sling before and swapped it out for the boss strapp. I really like the boss strap because it allows me to keep the tripod plate on my camera. It is also very secure.

My only issue with the boss strap is that sometime the lens points out (away from the body) instead of down.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

This is 500 million times better than the manufacturer's camera strap. With the manufacturer's strap, the camera never hung comfortably, would bounce around, and I would often get my strap tangled, especially if I wanted to get a vertical photo.

I've used the strap for over a year and it is comfortable, convenient, and my camera glides along the strap like a gem. My strap never gets tangled and I'm always able to position my camera right where I want it.

I use my camera for everyday shots and travel. I also take photos from a tripod with some frequency so keeping my tripod socket free is important. I've used the strap in tropical heat, frozen terrain, and strenuous hikes and it is very comfortable and convenient to use.

I was surprised that the strap material feels like a seat belt (I would have preferred the feel of the Canon strap) and doesn't have padding, but I have not had any comfort issues (my camera and lens weigh about 3.8 pounds). The design disperses the weight of my camera and lens so it doesn't seem to hit in one spot. Plus, with the strap, my camera hangs at my hip and I generally keep my hand on my camera, which can also help a little with weight.

The one thing I hate? The giant yellow letters reading "BosStrap." I've used black permanent marker on mine and it helps to fade the letters some.

I received this as a gift, but requested this specific strap after researching available camera straps.

Not as quality as I would have liked.

For almost [$] dollars the BosStrap is a little cheap with materials. The clamp, which holds the camera is plastic, not metal which the photograph and the advertising suggests (holds up to 80lbs.). Have not used it in the field yet but it is very comfortable, easy to use, easy to assemble and adjust.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

Got this sling in early December. Looked at Black Rapids and read about Canon and Nikon's comments about straps thatg use the tripod socket.

I ordered the Generation 3 sliding sling strap and really like it. Just got back from vacation shooting over 1100 images. Much nicer strap than the wife's OptiTech sling strap.

Beware, over a heavy coat it's not easy to put on, had to have help from the wife.

Everything about the strap says "quality". I was concerned when it did not have a pad for over the shoulder but so far no issues. Will see what happens this summer when it's resting on a Tee-Shirt. Recommended.

Bought this one for the same reason many do. It does not use the tripod mount to attach to the body. Used it for the first time shooting a class trip. Traveled around the city on & off a bus. Using a D610 with a Nikkor 24-70 & strap is plenty strong enough for this rig. Very easy to bring the rig up for shooting.

Comments about BosStrap Generation 3 Sliding Sling Strap (Black):

I have tried numerous straps and missed many picture opportunities because i couldn't get the camera on the tripod. This is the first and only strap i found that leaves the tripod connection free. Exactly what i was looking for.

Travelled with this strap attached to a D800 with grip and 70-200 lens attached; was comfortable, relieved the stress around the neck when using the factory-supplied strap. Easy to use. Definitely a must have for a heavier camera setup. Also like the fact that the tripod attachment is not used unlike other competing straps. The printed directions that are included are not very clear - it is better to visit the website to review the directions.

Looked at the Black Rapid Sport and other options for a sling strap.Liked the BoStra Generation 3 sling. Much more cost effective than the [$] + BR Stealth Adapter ([$]).Wide strap does not need a pad. Used it a month and love it.But most important, tripod sockets are designed fo support so much weight and neck strap lugs are stronger.

I just got this strap about 10 days ago and I haven't used it yet on any hikes or all day outings, but so far it seems to be exactly what I was looking for. It's well made and comfortable to wear. The camera slides easily from its resting position on my hip to the shooting position. And while I generally don't use a tripod, I really like the fact that the tripod attachment plate is available even with the strap attached. I keep the strap on the camera all the time. When I put the camera away, the strap simply wraps around the lens. From my perspective, you can't go wrong with this strap.
