The 8x42 Monarch 7 ATB Binocular from Nikon combines extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements with a weather-sealed housing. Nikon’s All-Terrain Binocular (ATB) series delivers impressive image quality and ergonomics in a set of glasses that won't break the bank, making the Monarch 7 a favorite among naturalists and hobbyists alike. This 8x configuration of the Monarch 7 features a 8.2 ft close focus distance and wide 58° apparent viewing angle, ideal for almost any close to mid-range observation.

A fully multicoated ED lens system combined with phase-correction-coated and dielectric multicoated prisms allow the Monarch 7 optics to transmit a bright image that is color-faithful and rich with detail. Additionally, Nikon applies a scratch-resistant lens coating that protects exposed glass and prevents moisture and dirt from adhering to the lens surface. A generous 17mm eye relief and turn-and-slide eyecups help make the Monarch 7 a full-featured binocular that is ready for comfortable viewing for years to come.

Comments about Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7 Binocular:

Have used this binocular for birdwatching on the road, in the park as well as at home. So far, it has performed consistently well. ED glass does help in producing sharp, clear and bright image even during low light (just after sunset). Chromatic aberration is barely noticeable and that too while viewing objects with high contrast background. Overall, a great binocular and a must have for birdwatcher on the budget.

        Excellent Binoculars

        By PanamaBirdGuy

        from Panama City, Panama

Comments about Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7 Binocular:

I've been into photography for many years and most recently I've delved into bird photography. As a compliment to this pastime, I decided a binocular purchase was in order. Like for any electronic purchase, I did extensive research and decided upon a pair that would be as high performance as possible within my budget. When it comes to optics, quality is paramount for an enjoyable experience. I've worked with less than stellar glass before and the results left me less than satisfied. I purchased these as a Christmas present to myself and I have been quite pleased with the performance. The feel is excellent. The solid rubber grip material is pleasant to the touch and the center focus wheel is responsive and calibrated in such a way that it doesn't take a lot of turning to establish focus. I really like the rubber caps that protect the objective lenses, they are easy to use and seal beautifully. I only wish there was a similar design used for the ocular lenses. Nikon employed a semi-rigid plastic cover for this that is not as ergonomically friendly in my opinion. Otherwise, the feel in the hands is great as the binoculars are light-weight, but they possess enough material to feel like a product of substance. This is one trait I like about Nikon in general, their products generally are practical when it comes to size and weight, yet they don't feel cheap or like a toy (which some brands do). The ED glass really makes a big difference in this price category because it offers a crisp, clear, colorful and bright view at the exit pupil. I honestly think sometimes I'm getting a brighter image looking at certain wildlife in the shade with these binoculars than with my own eyes. It's impressive to see a bird which is too dark to identify by eyesight burst forth in natural color with these binoculars. These are great for birding as the 8x magnification allows the user to follow subjects easily without excessive shake. Great value!

Very comfortable in hand. Focusing knob has nice resistance and range, allowing very easy precise focus acquisition. Eyecups have multiple positions making appropriate eye relief adjustable. Excellent eye relief with eye glasses. Optics are very sharp and bright. These glasses compare very favorably to the Leica 8x30's which I used to own until my son lost them, and are any incredible value. Extremely satisfied with my purchase. Bought a second pair for my son so now he won't lose mine.

I'm a casual bird watcher and was looking for superior performance in a light weight and easy to use package. I got exactly that. The optics are exceptional. The size works well for my small face. I have add difficulty with other binoculars in adjusting them to fit my face and still be able to see through both lenses. The close focus is very nice and the construction is solid.

Comments about Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7 Binocular:

I have not yet taken these into the woods on a deep hike (birding, navigation, sight seeing - I also use on airfields and in plane as private pilot), but my initial observations out of the box are very positive! I tried these in both daylight and dusk conditions as soon as I pulled them out of the box. Performance was outstanding on both fronts - crisp clarity, in both daylight and dusk conditions, very comfortable to hold (and do so with stability at all focal lengths), and a smooth and easy focus system. I do not wear glasses but the eye relief appeared more than adequate given I was able to use easily with sunglasses.

Not the lightest pair from those I considered (and based on feel out of the box more practically) but they feel very well constructed and I personally am willing to trade a bit of weight for the peace of mind that durability will be good. The objective lens covers are great. By contrast, the one thing I'm a bit unsure about is the pupil lens cover. It seems a bit cumbersome in construction, and appears wholly dependent on using the neck strap. If one were to forgo the next strap in favor of using the case on a belt loop, the pupil lens cover appears easy to lose.

Comments about Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7 Binocular:

I want to start out by responding to concerns over the loose fit of the eyepiece cover...I'm convinced people aren't using the cover properly. Yes, if you just place the cover over the eyepiece it will fall off. No question. But that's not how it is intended to be used. You must run the neckstrap through slots in the cover and allow it to remain attached. When you do this and then cover the eyepiece, enough tension is created to keep the cover in place. It's not super tight, but it's sufficient to keep the cover in place while still allowing for easy, quick removal.

I love the binoculars. Great with glasses. Very bright optics.

They have great vision and light. I love everything except:

The eye covers fall off. They are really poorly designed

I wish they were lighter (weight-wise)

They are the best binoculars I have ever owned.

I bought this based on the many positive reviews. It replaces a 10x42 pair. The major pluses are wider field of view and clearer brighter optics. I was surprised that these bino's weigh ad much as the 10x42's, but they are still a bit lighter than a similar power pair from Leica. Overall I am really happy with these.

The Monarch 7, 8x42, will replace my 25 year-old Swift binoculars. I had read various reviews that recommended the Nikon Monarch 7, so I ordered one and am very pleased with my purchase. The roof prism binoculars are light and much more compact than the porro prisms. The focus wheel is easy to turn. When focusing the roof prisms, your hands are closer together than when using the porro prism, and may taken some getting used to for those with larger hands. The brilliant image is better than my expectations. The eye relief cups have several click stops and are soft on your glasses.

I'm very picky about optics. These Monarch are very clear and easy to get focused, a little heavier than my Monarch 5 but the wide field of view is awesome. For the price, the Monarch 7 is one of the best binoculars you can buy.

Comments about Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7 Binocular:

The optics on these binoculars are fantastic. We just used them on a three day wilderness boat trip and at one point I exclaimed - this is better than looking with my own eye up close! My husband and I are novice birders, and we are very happy with this purchase. One particular feature we like is how we can adjust the two eyepieces to see clearly with both eyes at once. With our older binoculars, which aren't bad, you could only focus with one eye when trying to see small details.

Comments about Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7 Binocular:

I needed a pair of eight power binoculars for birding. I have a pair of Swarovski 10x42 that I use for hawk watching. I love them, but they are too powerful for close range and I didn't want to spend another $ on a pair of binoculars. The quality of the Monarch 7 is fantastic. Lots of eye relief ( I wear glasses) and good field of view that makes it easy to get on your bird on the first try. Edge to edge clarity is surprisingly clear for a medium range pair of binoculars. Low light viewing is very good. They feel good in your hands thanks to the armor coating. If you are looking for a great pair of binoculars that doesn't break the bank then this is the pair for you.
