The Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera from Panasonic is Panasonic's latest digital compact camera to offer an f/2.8 aperture across the full range of its zoom.  And given that the full range runs to 600mm (in 35mm format), that's saying something. The lens on the FZ200 is a 24x optical zoom lens that starts at the wide angle end as a 25mm and zooms all the way to 600mm.  This is an incredible range that encompasses all the focal lengths you could ever need and it offers an f/2.8 aperture at all of those lengths.  Normally, this is something that only high end professional lenses offer, but with this Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens, you can have the speed and light collecting ability of an f/2.8 in an easy-to- use, easy-to-hold compact camera. It's hard to understate the improvements your photos will show, especially zoom close-ups, when you are shooting at f/2.8. The f/2.8 will allow you to use faster shutter speeds at full zoom or lower light and get sharp, blur-free images. Add to that, the Light Speed Auto Focus and 12 frames per second burst shooting speed and you have no reason to ever miss a shot. Really.

Also, a newly developed 12.1 MP high sensitivity MOS sensor and high performance LSI Venus Engine image processor equal high speed response to match the lens' speed and sensitive, high resolution image quality that will make all those shots you're now able to get, worth getting. In addition to high speed continuous shooting and Auto Focus, the Venus Engine image processor also offers quick start-up time and High Speed Video up to 240 frames per second which will slow down fast-moving subjects for awesome slo-mo.

Back that great lens for a second. The 24x optical zoom can be doubled to 48x with the Intelligent Zoom function. Intelligent Resolution, POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) and Active Mode will keep images clear and shake-free even when shooting with such a high zoom. Also, these Leica lenses come with Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating which minimizes light reflection and optical aberrations throughout the zoom range meaning that images are clear and light flares are kept to a minimum.

Rounding out the improvements in the FZ200 is its newly designed body which allows for easier control and better access to the zooming and focus lever. Also, a newly developed 0.2" EVF (Electronic View Finder) offers a high resolution image and 100% field of view.

Like all Lumix camera's the FZ200 is made complete with a full range of assistive and creative control options that will drastically improve your shooting, especially when taking on tricky high contrast or low light images. And of course, the FZ200 houses a wonderful video package available at the push of one dedicated button. From Full HD 1080 60p to ultra high speed video at VGA size, you have all the video you could ever want from a compact camera. And that lens that we spoke about - f/2.8 aperture and 24x optical zoom- is functional in video as well.  Add to that, Dolby Stereo audio recording and you have in your hands a complete Audio-Visual creation machine.

Optics
The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit f/2.8 24x optical zoom lens with a focal length equivalency of 25mm to 600mm offers a huge shooting range with a high speed, bright aperture that is available throughout the entire focal range. Nano surface coating prevents unwanted light reflections and 2X Intelligent Zoom jumps the whole zoom package to an incredible 1200mm equivalency. Optical Image Stabilization, Active Mode and Intelligent Resolution will help keep those ultra zoom shots crisp and blur-free.
Sensor and Image Processor
A 12.1 MP MOS Sensor and high performance LSI Venus Engine image processor provide high speed start-up and response, ultra sensitive recording and superb image quality. This is a Lumix after all!
Video
Full HD 1080 60p video recording offers high quality video capture and High Speed Video enables the recording of fast-moving subjects at 120 fps (frames per second) and 240 fps! Active Mode and POWER O.I.S enable you to use the incredible zoom capability of the FZ200 in video modes too and all of this is available with noise resistant Dolby Stereo audio recording. Video recording can begin with just the touch of one dedicated button, a one-button switch from still photography to video.
Electronic View Finder
A newly developed 0.2-inch EVF (Electronic View Finder) features a 1,312,000-dot equivalent high resolution, 100% field of view and minimum screen freeze.
Ergonomic Design
The Lumix FZ200's body has been designed as a full-fledged shooting style digital compact camera with ultimate controllability. The side lever has been redesigned and placed in a convenient location, allowing for smooth zooming control. Focus can also be easily changed with this lever, allowing users to concentrate on shutter operation and getting the perfect photographic moment.
Creative Control
Photo Style and fourteen filter options including Soft Focus and Impressive Art add effect to your images while iA (Intelligent Auto) helps with AF tracking, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent HDR. Full manual control is also an option for those shooters who can create great images with their own internal intelligent modes.

I will be the first to admit that I don't want to bother to take the time to set shutter speed, f-stop, ISO, etc when I am taking pictures, but I still want to end up with quality images. I have been the route with several CDCs and even one DSLR I have finally found my perfect camera in the Panasonic Lumix FZ200. Let me add that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, so weight, flexibility and ease of managing controls is a huge factor for me - but I also want pictures that turn out very nicely. I can handle this camera with one hand easily.
Right out of the box, just figuring out how to use the camera, the resulting pictures are extremely impressive. The clarity and depth of field are outstanding. The Intelligent Zoom is unbelievable - it's like having a spy camera now! I am a novice photographer, but I know quality pictures when I download them. Obtaining the desired results with this camera is done with ease. You have to try very hard to get a bad shot. I can easily say the initial results were stunning.
The LCD is easy to view and very detailed. I am at the age where everything up close is a blur, but the LCD screen is perfectly sized. Having the option to switch to the viewfinder is very nice to have especially when zooming.
The icons on the display are easy to understand, managing the controls is pretty intuitive. And the camera takes over so much it is hardly ever necessary to adjust any settings. It truly is 'intelligent'.
I have only used the video feature once so far, but I very much like the one-button feature for recording video. Very convenient.
I am still figuring out all of the camera's features but I have yet to find something that I don't like about it. Habitually I have stuck to another highly regarded well-known brand of cameras, and I and very glad that I took the plunge and kicked the brand habit.

I am amazed by this new camera however I almost returned it because the manual was so poor. I am new to this type of camera and it was the advanced features that I was most interested in understanding. The manual was useless - worse than useless. The small booklet which accompanies the camera basically instructed me on how to attach the strap and lens cover. Not much more ! The PDF file on the enclosed CD was vague and not helpful in understanding WHY or WHEN a particular action was appropriate. I reverted to You Tube and found a very knowledgeable Englishman -- Graham Houghton - has presented 12 or 13 short videos on how to get the most from my camera. Thank God for You Tube. Mr. Houghton calls his tutorial series "The Missing Manual". So at least I know I'm not the only one who has been frustrated by this poor excuse for a teaching manual. Happily - if one is able to learn how to use it, ...... the camera is great !!!!

This small camera body is great to carry with me all the time. My bigger Nikon equipment is in my bag in the car as I am driving, but this camera is on my lap!
The brochure that comes with it doesn't explain use well enough, so be sure to put the CD in your computer and read that very informative usage information.
As a professional photographer I am looking forward to shooting weddings with this.

Camera has so many more features than I realized. Perfect balance between zoom and close-up photography. Features are easily accessible. Have to get used to opening flash and sometimes it doesn't seem quite strong enough, but need to do more testing. Love the fast shutter speed. Love the adjustable LCD.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I purchased the Panasonic Lumix FZ200 in May before our trip to the Grand Canyon. The camera produced great pictures for that trip as well as for a later trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

The main feature that drew me to this camera is the 2.8 aperture which is great for low light situations. The ability to take sharp, clear photos for both wide angle and zoom without the hassle and added weight of a DSLR and extra lenses are what sold me on the camera. The weight of the camera is solid enough to keep a good, steady hold without feeling weighted down during a day of hiking or sightseeing. The viewfinder is a great feature and especially helpful for shooting outdoors. The camera works well for family photos and for photos on the go. The zoom is enough to capture wildlife in the distance without having so much zoom as to require a tripod.

The only thing I don't like about the camera is the fact that the flare ring has no way to stay attached to the camera when not in use.

The quality of the photos is outstanding for a point-and-shoot camera. I am totally satisfied with this purchase and give the FZ200 my whole-hearted recommendation.

I was apprehensive about buying a camera that was 2 years old and didn't have all the latest features like GPS and wifi however it had other features that no other camera has and this camera did not disappoint, I would highly recommend. Easy to use, great sharp, clear pictures. The flash is better than my old canon power shot, actually I think this is a much better camera than the canon., the only thing I miss about the canon is the double AA batteries.

Even so, it's a great camera with an awesome lens that's a lot (A LOT) of fun to use. It's my new go-to camera when I travel, walk around town or want to have some fun at the park.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I'm excited about getting to know my Lumix FZ200. Haven't had much chance to put it to the test, but I did experiment with the zoom. Amazing! Took a few long-range (1/4 mi)shots at 24X, handheld and I'm impressed. I also shot some video of our grandson's band concert using iA mode under gymnasium lighting. The color and clarity are 10x better than my Lumix P&S. Auto-focus on zooming was a bit delayed, but the sound quality (with the built in mic on zoom setting) was awesome, picking up very little background noise. It didn't, however, adjust for the out of tune trombone section. Maybe there's a software edit for that? LOLOur weather has been too poor to get many outdoor pictures, but we are going to see the Christmas light show at our botanical gardens tomorrow. I'll be able to compare to the same taken with the P&S a couple of weeks ago.I'm anxious to learn to use manual exposures and produce some outstanding photos. I'm not complaining about my "Little Lumix" P&S, which has given me some pretty decent pictures, but am expecting better with my upgrade.I considered getting a Nikon SLR, as I have Nikkor lenses that were my dad's, but I'm not crazy about packing around all that weight. My passion is outdoor photography and we do a lot of hiking and biking. I purchased a Ruggard Triumph 15 sling bag for on the trails. I'm the photographer in the family and my husband expects me to carry my own gear :) This pack is comfortably compact, yet holds and neatly organizes both cameras, all my gear (tripod if needed), and even a bit of lunch. Most important, I am able to stow all my camera accessories in one place so I know where to find them. I feel the FZ200 was a great choice for me.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This camera paired with the amazing lens is wonderful. But for me it was just to big. Not as big as a DSLR but 3/4's was still to big.

For travel, it might be a big bullish, but if you are cool with that, then this is your... I can do everything camera!

I got my wife this camera to replace her old one. The lens is better than expected. It make very good 16x19 prints. I think that it is as good as my Canon Lenses.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

With the constant aperture and a few other improvements, this was the logical upgrade when my FZ150 died. Feels very familiar in the hand, and controls were an easy adjustment.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I plan to use the Panasonic FZ200 as a substitute for having to get a big telephoto zoom for my Nikon DSLR. The size, weight, and price of a DSLR zoom that has the same equiv focal length as the FZ200 would be many times higher. Plus the big DSLR would only be used on a few occasions, such as on an African safarai or animal watching in Alaska. The Leica banded lens on the Panasonic is good enough for me, where my output is 12" x 12" print in a photobook.

I already own the FZ150 and the 200 is pretty much the same except for the 2.8f across the whole zoomrange. I love my 150 so I'm sure I'm going to have even more fun with the 200. My main use for thses type of cameras are for vacations and travel.I've been using LUMIX cameras since they first came out and they never disappoint. the best part was getting at half price during the black friday sale.BHphoto is the best

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

If you want a light weight all around camera that does most everything well with an amazingly sharp Leica lens that zooms from 25 to 600mm at f2.8 at a reasonable cost, this may be the camera for you. I have a Canon T2i SLR that I like very much, but when I compared my results with those of my lady using her FZ200, I was shocked to see that her images were often as sharp or sharper than mine. Frustrated, I bought a FZ200 myself and have been using it most of the time for the past year. I went on a photo road trip with a friend. He took his Nikon SLR and several lenses while I took only my FZ200. My results were on a par with his in most circumstances. I know three other very good photographers who use the FZ200 and have won contests entering prints as big as 11x14. I've never used the flash or shot movies with it. I shoot a wide range of subjects, from street scenes to portraits and fast moving subjects. I often use the intelligent automatic setting because I'm shooting fast changing subjects on the fly. The color rendition, white balance and focus are all generally great. In other circumstances, I shoot manual, aperture or shutter mode. Making adjustments to the settings is straight forward, but somewhat difficult to achieve quickly. I find the articulating LCD screen to be very helpful and tend to use it rather than the viewfinder in many circumstances. If the light is decent, you'll get wonderful results, but performance falls off under low light circumstances or when using a high ISO. Since the zoom is motor driven, it is somewhat slower than with my SLR. I've also had some problems with the auto focus when attempting macro shots. I've had no problem with battery life. Since the lens is not removable, you don't have to worry about cleaning your sensor. I love the light weight of the camera particularly on trips. My tripod shoe interferes with the battery and memory card slot and so has to be removed to gain access to them. Bottom line: In spite of some rather minor shortcomings, this is an excellent all around camera for most uses. Both my lady and I are so happy with ours that we are contemplating buying second ones as backups in case something happens to the ones we have or the model is discontinued. I recommend it without reservation to all but the most advanced photographers and even to them as a second camera.

I've had the FZ200 about 6 months now and absolutely love it. I also have a Canon SX50HS and that to is a great camera. The FZ200 does have slightly more noise in the photos, but you will only see it if you print large prints. But the lens and speed of AF and overall speed of the camera goes to the FZ200 hands down. Both have excellent image stabilization and both have a hot shoe for external flash (wouldn't buy a bridge camera without one). And the difference between 600mm and 1200mm isn't as much as you would think. The FZ200 comes with a lens hood and has threads for filter if you want to use one. HERE'S A LITTLE SECRET: If you haven't already figured it out, YOU CAN USE THE ZOOM RING AROUND THE SHUTTER BUTTON TO PAGE THRU THE MENU. Make sure to visit Graham Houghton's tutorials on You Tube or his web site. They will show you everything you need to know about this camera. The best thing about bridge cameras is that they are FUN to use and so easy to take with you. You will be ready for almost any situation. Enjoy!!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I am an amateur photographer so most of the images I take are of anything and everything. What I like about this camera is that it is light to carry around, flexible to use for closeups or telephotos, and for what it is, it takes great photos, even in low light conditions. Videos are great, even in low light conditions. My only complaint that it is poor for sport action types of shots, and the viewfinder is useless. But all of the good things other reviewer said are spot on. Need to use a tripod for long telephoto shots, which is normal.I had a Nikon and a Tamron telephoto lens that I sold to buy this camera but after finding out that action shots are hard to take, I bought another Nikon and telephoto lens.
