The 3 TB Hard Drive Kit for 6TB and 12TB WD Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Servers from Western Digital upgrades the storage capacity of your WD Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Server. The kit comes with one WD RE4-GP EP500M Hard Drive. Its advanced power management technology delivers a faster and a greener solution for large-scale data centers.
The hard drive features 64 MB cache, dual processors and increased areal density that gives twice the processing power results. The IntelliPower technology provides a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms to deliver significant power savings and solid performance. The IntelliSeek feature calculates optimum seek speeds, thereby reducing power consumption, noise and vibration. The IntelliPark technology automatically unloads recording heads when idle to reduce aerodynamic drag. It automatically invokes idle mode whenever possible to further reduce unnecessary power consumption.The StableTrac function firmly secures the motor shaft at both ends to minimize system-induced vibration and stabilizes the platters for accurate tracking. With Time-Limited Error Recovery (TLER) function, this hard drive prevents drive fallout caused by extended hard drive error-recovery processes. The Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) feature optimizes operation and performance in vibration-prone and multi-drive systems such as rack-mounted servers.- Greener

These drives are the only ones certified to work in my NAS, the Western Digital Sentinel DX4000. I use this network backup device as a loaner for clients. I originally purchased the Sentinel with only two 3 TB drives installed. But this last customer quickly filled that up while we were waiting for their failed NAS to be replaced. So I needed to expand the storage capacity of my NAS.
This hard drive expansion kit consists of two very high-end enterprise grade drives. Identical to the two that were all ready installed. These drives normally cost two to three times as much as consumer grade drives. B&H offered them at the best price by far.
