The AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount by Tokina is an ultra-wide angle autofocus zoom lens with a fast constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. The AT-X 116 PRO DX-II lens is designed for digital cameras with APS-C-size CMOS or CCD sensors. Its angle of view ranges from 104-84° and it can focus as close as 11.8". Nine diaphragm blades help to produce soft out-of-focus backgrounds while two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and two aspheric elements help to achieve excellent contrast, sharpness and minimal chromatic aberration. As an update to their AT-X 116 PRO DX, Tokina has improved the multi-layer coatings to minimize light reflection and improve optical performance. The PRO DX-II has an internal focusing motor which is ideal if shooting video with your digital camera.

Tokina's One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between autofocus and manual focus with a simple push of the focus ring. Snapping it forward into autofocus and back into manual focus is all that needs be done, there's no need to adjust the AF/MF switch on the camera body.

A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light situations and also aids in creating a shallow depth of field.
An internal focusing motor allows for smoother focus transitions and is ideal for shooting video with your digital camera.
Two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and two aspheric elements, as well as improved multi-coating, achieve excellent sharpness and contrast and reduce aberrations.
The One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism offers a simple switch from manual focus to autofocus and back again. The focus ring snaps forward for AF and back for MF. It's operable with one hand and eliminates the need to switch from AF to MF on the camera body.

I live n Alaska and have rented this lens a few times from my local camera store. I finely broke down and bought 2!!!! I use them for photographing the northern lights. They are the only lens I have found that has the super wide angle I need with the fast 2.8. If you are looking for a sweet fast wide angle lens I would most defiantly recommend this lens. And I have to my fellow aurora photographer friends.

I mounted my new Tokina 11-16mm on my Canon 7D for landscapes, however its autofocus seems like hit and miss. For indoors, it misses autofocus many times. Images are very blurry (unfocused, NOT because of shakiness) For me f/2.8 will not be really useful for day light/indoor because it produces soft images unless I am taking picture of close up objects (not a right lens for close ups anyway) At f/5.6, the images are still bit soft for my liking and at f/8, images are good, but THAT IS f/8!! I can't handhold this unless I get a tripod.

However, thankfully Tokina's build quality is much better than Canon's offering angle options. This lens is light years better than 10-18 for build quality.

I bought mine strictly for night star trails and overall night photography. Capturing those galaxies and star trails are thing that I am most interested in. So, that is why I got f/2.8 wide angle lens.

Also, don't forget the autofocus is bit noise on this lens.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

I've only had it for a few days. Enjoying the wide angle option and the f/2.8 aperture. Gives me great flexibility in how I want to set my shutter speed for photos taken in the evening. Much better price than the Canon 10-22mm.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

I took a long time before I chose the Tokina 11 - 16 mm lens. I have only had it a few weeks, but it has performed well. I plan to do landscape photography and am going on a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in September. I am looking forward to seeing the images from that trip. B & H was very prompt in getting me the product in a very protected package. I would recommend this product to other s wanting a good wide angle mini zoom lens.

I've been using this lens for about a month now and I couldn't be happier. The lens was bigger and heavier than I thought, but overall it's a good walk around lens. The auto-focus is fast for my standards and pretty accurate. Switching between manual and auto focus is easy and the included lens hood is a plus. Always had this lens on my camera during my recent Colorado vacation and this lens is perfect for landscape photography. This lens is always great for astrophotography as the f2.8 let's you capture the night sky and the Milky Way with ease.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

For me, the Tokina 11-16 F2.8 is disappointing. I bought it because for the combination of benefits; the fast constant f2.8, the 'ultra' wide angle, and the ability to add a filter. Unfortunately at f2.8 I find the level of chromatic aberration unacceptably poor with severe purple fringing. Yes, everyone says 'you can correct this in software', but I prefer to have the best image I can 'in camera'. I've decided to return this and try the Canon 10-22. Yes, I will loose the constant f2.8 aperture but I'll gain a more useable zoom range. I'm hoping the in camera lens correction profile will offer superior quality images and the Canon 10-22 takes the same size filters as the Tokina. Another benefit to the Canon is that the Tokina zoom ring works the opposite way to Canon lenses which is a slight inconvenience. I'm sure for many people the Tokina is a fine lens, but I wasn't impressed.

The Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16 mm ultra wide zoom is spectacular for astrophotography, landscapes, architectural shots, anything that needs a wide open view, and the f/2.8 aperature sucks in the light, allowing lower ISO and less digital noise, especially for long exposure night sky shots. And as always, B&H has great service, good prices and speedy delivery. Never had a bad experience with B&H Photo !!!

                Love my new lens

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

This is my 4th lens purchase. I own the Canon 40mm 2.8, the 85mm 1.8, and I had owned the 75-300 3.5. This is my first wide angle lens for an SLR and I love it. I am using it with a 1.6 crop factor and it is more than wide enough for shooting anything. You get a small amount of vignetting at 11mm but it goes away as soon as 12mm.

Overall the lens has a sturdy build. It has a nice weight but can sometimes feel awkward or off balance at times. I really like how the lens toggles between auto and manual focus. All it takes is pulling or pushing the front of the lens.

The lens produces beautiful images. Color is vibrant with a nice contrast. It's easy to get very sharp images with this lens.

The lens is physically large enough and so optically wide that using the on camera flash will result in images with a shadow created by the lens. Worth mentioning, but you probably shouldn't be shooting with the on camera flash anyways.

Overall, for the money, this lens is incredible. I spent a lot of time searching for a wide angle in my budget and I couldn't be happier with my decision.

I read many great reviews of the Tokina 11-16 and decided to buy this lens. The lens appears well made; it looks and feels solid. I was satisfied with the sharpness of the lens at f2.8. But I was very disappointed by the severe chromatic aberration. The Canon 18-135 STM kit lens is effectively free of CA at 18mm, the Tokina has ugly purple fringing. Perhaps this is a bad lens. Or perhaps the 'in camera' lens correction available with a Canon camera/lens combination makes buying a Canon lens a more attractive proposition.I bought this lens primarily to try out astrophotography, and as a general use ultra wide lens. The CA on my lens is so disappointing I'm going to return it. I will probably rethink my ideas about astrophotography and look at lenses like the inexpensive canon 10-18 STM which has image stabilization and a completely silent autofocus (but a poor maximum aperture and plastic construction), or the Canon 10-22 F3.5 (although I've read some bad things about it), or maybe even the Sigma 8-16.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

I bought this for my Canon T2i. It works great, The auto-focus is fast but once a while it can't focus correctly, not sure why but if I can find ways to work around it, I am sure others can as well.

I was debating whether to get Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8 or Canon's 10-22mm F/3.5-4.5. I really wish to get the 10mm feature but ultimately decide that F/2.8 works better for me at night.

Other review pointed out the "soft corner" effect but that doesn't bother me too much.

Overall, I like it, but it's still not perfect.

This one comes with lens hood...and I found it unnecessary, so I probably paid a few more bucks for something that I don't need.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

Just purchased it recently, it looks good, but:

                        - night time cityscapes, long exposure, not super sharp compared to my Canon 50mm 1.4
Manual focus is OK but, most of the time when I try to sharpen the picture (night cityscape), I can't sharpen it enough
                        - daytime photos are nice (cars, landscape, buildings)
                        - the lens is fast, autofocus a bit noisy but nothing bad
                        - when shooting people, keep them close to the middle, otherwise they say "oh.. I don't look good on this picture" :) yes, it will distort them

Would I buy this lens again? I don't know.. I'd like to try Canon 10-22mm. I had a very high expectations for this Tokina and I'm a bit dissapointed
I'm not saying it's a bad lens, no, but, it's not perfect too

To be fair, I need to play with this lens more and do more testing. So far, I'm not really happy with it.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

I absolutely LOVE the Tokina 11-16mm... I photograph weddings, portraits, landscapes etc... and its PERFECT all around.

It is unbelievably sharp & although there is a slight distortion around the edges, I personally feel that adds a nice touch to the images.

The ONLY thing that I cringe at is the green flare... when I shoot sunsets, SOMETIMES it adds a artsy touch, but I could do without it...

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

I bought this lense to compliment my 18-135 mm kit lense wich is decent on my Canon t5i. I had to convince myself that this lense is a specialty lense by buying it wich I don't regret. This lense is very wide and and yes, you have to get too close to the subject to take the pic, i've done some macro shots of flowers and insects with it and it tack sharp, it performs so well in the dark due to the f/ 2.8 aperture, I go in the backyard at night overlooking the streets of my town and the highway and boy, this lense take some nice shots ( at least a 30 sec exposure) , daytime pics are ridiculously beatiful, now, I read about vignetting about this lense but it's not that noticeable at least for me and by the way, every lense out there will vignette one way or another , the lense is built like a tank, it's got some weight to it vs other ones that feel plasticky( not this one boy) , the lense hood is bigger than the 18-135 mm but it is because this lense has a 77 mm thread where the 18-135 has a 67 mm I believe, I thing because the lense is shorter, it has to be of a larger diameter to be able to fit the images into the lense. My final opinion is , I think I made the right decision buying it, I researched other brands before I pulled the trigger on this one and so far so good. Can't wait to take it on vacation and take pics of the ocean and my family as well, good luck to all that buy it! Trust me you wont regret !

I've owned this lens for just a short time, but I am so far very impressed. The sharpness is as advertised - tack sharp. The build is solid. I used it for my first attempts at nighttime, long exposure photography and it worked great. The images it produced were spectacular. The f/2.8 provides for a wider flexibility of use in lower light settings with great results.

5* for the general picture outcome and sharpness, But the focus ring could be a problem with time. I really like the lens that features a switch between auto and manual. On this one you actually need to pull the focus ring towards you and it feels like it could broke off at any time ... But great lens

My primary purpose was to get more of the room in my shots. I shoot for my construction (room addition) company. This works just great on my T5i. I also shoot video and pics for my off road club. I've been out once and it performed well and I am completely satisfied for the clarity and performance.

I'm a 'beginner' by definition, and had been looking for cameras and lenses for weeks trying to decide on the best one. Was going back and forth between this and the Nikon D7100 and eventually decided on this one. I looked at all the possible photo reviews and videos online, after going crazy i realized i couldn't go wrong with this. I'm a Realtor, and plan on using this for listing photos and commercial/residential photography as well as the occasional modeling/portraits. Bought this with the Canon 70D, and this was the perfect addition to the package. Little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Totally worth the buy. Ease of use is seamless for a beginner.
