The AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount by Tokina is an ultra-wide angle autofocus zoom lens with a fast constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. The AT-X 116 PRO DX-II lens is designed for digital cameras with APS-C-size CMOS or CCD sensors. Its angle of view ranges from 104-84° and it can focus as close as 11.8". Nine diaphragm blades help to produce soft out-of-focus backgrounds while two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and two aspheric elements help to achieve excellent contrast, sharpness and minimal chromatic aberration. As an update to their AT-X 116 PRO DX, Tokina has improved the multi-layer coatings to minimize light reflection and improve optical performance. The PRO DX-II has an internal focusing motor which is ideal if shooting video with your digital camera.

Tokina's One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between autofocus and manual focus with a simple push of the focus ring. Snapping it forward into autofocus and back into manual focus is all that needs be done, there's no need to adjust the AF/MF switch on the camera body.

A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light situations and also aids in creating a shallow depth of field.
An internal focusing motor allows for smoother focus transitions and is ideal for shooting video with your digital camera.
Two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements and two aspheric elements, as well as improved multi-coating, achieve excellent sharpness and contrast and reduce aberrations.
The One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism offers a simple switch from manual focus to autofocus and back again. The focus ring snaps forward for AF and back for MF. It's operable with one hand and eliminates the need to switch from AF to MF on the camera body.

I live n Alaska and have rented this lens a few times from my local camera store. I finely broke down and bought 2!!!! I use them for photographing the northern lights. They are the only lens I have found that has the super wide angle I need with the fast 2.8. If you are looking for a sweet fast wide angle lens I would most defiantly recommend this lens. And I have to my fellow aurora photographer friends.

I read many great reviews of the Tokina 11-16 and decided to buy this lens. The lens appears well made; it looks and feels solid. I was satisfied with the sharpness of the lens at f2.8. But I was very disappointed by the severe chromatic aberration. The Canon 18-135 STM kit lens is effectively free of CA at 18mm, the Tokina has ugly purple fringing. Perhaps this is a bad lens. Or perhaps the 'in camera' lens correction available with a Canon camera/lens combination makes buying a Canon lens a more attractive proposition.I bought this lens primarily to try out astrophotography, and as a general use ultra wide lens. The CA on my lens is so disappointing I'm going to return it. I will probably rethink my ideas about astrophotography and look at lenses like the inexpensive canon 10-18 STM which has image stabilization and a completely silent autofocus (but a poor maximum aperture and plastic construction), or the Canon 10-22 F3.5 (although I've read some bad things about it), or maybe even the Sigma 8-16.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

My first ultra-wide angle lens. I purchased it primarily for landscapes and indoor shooting, or anytime I desire more of something in the frame and I can't get as far away as I'd like, and for the constant f/2.8 aperture. I've only ventured out a few times due to cold, snowy, icy weather. So far I've experienced fast, quiet autofocus and good detail. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and getting out more soon. Very pleased with my purchase to date.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

This is my second copy of the AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens. My first copy was stolen in Dec 2014. So, I faced the decision whether to try a new lens or go with a proven winner.

I chose to go with the lens that never let me down. Fast, very sharp, accurate focus. Simply stated: This lens is RELIABLE.

Designed for APS-C sensors, it compliments my Canon EOS 7D perfectly. I have used this lens for landscape, real estate, wedding, and even portraiture work.

I have no complaints about this lens, as exemplified by my repeat purchase. Definitely recommended!

Popped this lens on my camera and haven't wanted to use anything else. It's fun to shoot so wide without a ton of distortion like with a fisheye. I've used it for indoor shots in tight spaces, landscapes, group shots, etc. The f/2.8 is great in low light.

This is an great lens to mount on a canon t3i, t4i, or t5i. It gives you the wide you're looking for without having to spend over $+ for a similar lens. Bottom line: great for indie film makers, or film students. Of course it does barrel on a larger sensor like the Canon 5D Mark II.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

Took the lense for a night out in New Orleans and found it worked best for mid and close range. Chromatic abiration did come up up but easily corrected in post with little impact on the final image. I have a Sigma 10-20mm f5.6 and I found getting down to f2.8 gave me much more range to play with. For the larger scale landscape I didn't shoot a lot, but look forawrd to it, especially a twilight and later. I took a point for the way the focus ring is also the switch between auto and manual and if you don't lock it it in it defaults to f2.8. I think the focus is a little sharper than the Sigma, but the lense has limits which would have made it a 4 (but the focus ring lost it an extra point) Overall I would still purchase this lense. I think it will be an easy lense to work into.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

needed a wide angle for my GH4/speedbooster combo. First tried the rokinon 26mm T2.2 but returned it due to distortion in the center of the image at high Tstops.

Exchanged for the tokina and like it so far. With the speedbooster, the fstop can go as low as 2.0 and is sharp all around (no distortion).

i'd recommend for abyone needing a decently priced wide angle for their cameras. God Bless the US

I use the lens to take photos of Aurora Borealis. It really works well. It takes great star shots and the Aurora is nothing short of fantastic. Their is however a little softening around the outer areas of the photo and a small amount of distortion of the stars. The colors are vibrant and the lens is very easy to use and focus even after dark without the aid of artificial light.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

Shooting real estate I like using wide angles - I also needed a lens that allowed more light. The AT-X 116 seems to be a well manufactured lens but compared to my Canon lens, it's very slow to automatically focus...but when it does, it's a nice picture.

A well built, fast and fun lens to shoot with. For the price paid it really can't be beat. Sure, it could've gone further than 11mm but it's plenty wide still.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon Mount:

I love this lens for the price. I've owned it for a couple weeks now and just playing around with it inside of my dorm room is a blast. I gave it 4 stars because nothing is perfect. Great for film and landscape photography. It does get soft around the edges when you're zoomed out at 11mm, but it isn't that noticeable. Also, f2.8 is okay, but you can't get a super wide angle lens with lower than f2.8 without spending over $. What I like is that this lens has continuous aperture, so when you're at 11mm, f2.8 and you zoom in to 16mm, the image doesn't become darker (unlike the kit lens). Also, surprisingly quick auto focus if you're into that.Anyway, I love this lens. The focus ring and zoom ring are super smooth. I highly recommend this lens.
