  • 5.5" Adjustable Gooseneck
  • One-Hand Mounting System

The d:vote 4099G Clip Microphone for Guitars with XLR Adapter from DPA Microphones is designed to clip onto different members of the acoustic guitar family including mandolins, ukuleles, and dobros with a body depth between 1.4 and 4.8". The clip can be adjusted with just one hand and can be used for both live sound and recording purposes. The microphone itself is a supercardioid condenser with a 5.5" adjustable gooseneck for ease in positioning. As the microphone is placed above the strings, it is designed to provide a more natural sound than an internally placed mic or pick-up.

The 4099G also features a detachable cable, which allows you to attach your mic to your guitar before connecting it. The 4099G terminates in a Microdot connector, allowing for compatibility with DPA's connection adapters for use with a variety of third party wireless systems. An XLR adapter with a belt clip is included for use in a wired system with 48-volt phantom power.

Comments about DPA Microphones d:vote 4099G Clip Microphone for Guitars with XLR Adapter:

This DPA mic was bought for a Yamaha steel string acoustic guitar. I had been reluctant to install an inbuilt system as this would have meant drilling and/or routing the guitar. Before getting the DPA I was using a Sennheiser MKH 40 cardioid SDC routed through some nice EQs and the results were great only one had to remain very still to stay in the right position for the mic.First impressions of the DPA 4099 were positive - it comes across as a well-thought-out microphone system. The cables, gooseneck, clamp and phantom adapter assemble in a matter of seconds. I clamped the mount to the guitar and adjusted the gooseneck so that the mic was about equidistant between the end of the fingerboard and the soundhole. It must be said that, once placed, the mic and clamp stay put - the gooseneck does not drift up as can be the case with cheaper systems. I ran the XLR through the Neve and onto a pair of Dynaudio monitors. The mic sounds good flat, and only a minimal amount of EQ was required to get a most pleasing sound that rivals the dynamic range and bandwidth of much more expensive mics. The sound is open and detailed with a warm low register. The higher harmonics are very well preserved: there is a pleasing 'air-in-the-mix' when using this mic. Not like an emphasis - more like an expensive-sounding smooth treble. In addition, the selection of well-engineered clamping and fixing solutions that come as accessories basically mean that it would be hard to find an acoustic instrument upon which you could not mount a DPA effectively and in a fuss-free manner. So, to summarize, not only is the DPA a viable sonic solution for mic'ing standard and idiosyncratic acoustic instruments, it comes with a range of well-engineered adapters, clamps and mounts to facilitate the reinforcement and recording of almost any instrument. Oh, and the sound is only matched by very expensive studio/broadcast mics.

Comments about DPA Microphones d:vote 4099G Clip Microphone for Guitars with XLR Adapter:

I've been searching for a mounted microphone like this for years! DPA has me sold on this, and I will never play live without the D-vote again. Its solid rubber clamps allow you to get a firm grip no matter the finish/size of your guitar body. The gooseneck, and the gooseneck extension can be moved around to capture sound from anywhere on the guitar. The 4099 also has great sound, ranging from smooth lows to crisp highs. I love the lightweight microdot connections as well. I run it through my shirt straight to my wireless beltpack so I'm able to move around on stage while still achieving the quality of a miced guitar. Very good product!
