The Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries charges up to 8 AA or AAA nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or nickel-cadmium (NiCD) batteries in approximately 1 hr. Charge your batteries anywhere around the world via the included 100-240V, 50/60Hz universal AC adapter with a removable, interchangeable power cord. This power supply features a rugged DIN connector to ensure reliable contact.
The charger has 8 independent charging circuits capable of charging 1-8 batteries in any combination. A large LCD screen shows the charging status of each battery. The charger's 8th generation MH-NM7008 Powerex Precision Microprocessor ensures batteries are charged to their maximum capacities without being over- or undercharged. I've owned quite a few cheap chargers, got tired of incomplete charges, or the 15-minute-speed-demon that only charged the newest batteries and wouldn't recognize my older ones. So I was faced with buying a bunch of new batteries - and quickly burning them up on the speed-charger - or investing in a quality charger.
So far I'm quite impressed. This charger has restored life in several batteries I was about to throw out. The ability to charge any combination of cells is a plus for all those devices that run on odd numbers of batteries. Independent charging means every battery gets a full charge, unlike cheaper units that charge in pairs. And having 8 slots means I can charge all 8 for my MB-D10 at once, or enough batteries to power two strobes.
Cons? Sure, nothing is perfect. As other reviews elsewhere on-line have stated, the LCD screen is smallish and somewhat hard to read. A backlight would help, but I just keep a small flashlight nearby. It's not small by any means - the power brick is almost as large as the charger - it's about the size of a laptop brick. And setting the default to soft charge instead of rapid seems like a better default option.

easy to use. works but I can't understand why the screen readout isn't lit. I'm grandpa who is blind. I wear lenses that are thicker than the antartic ice pack.If you like charging in the dark you'll love this charger. For me I needed my 860 lumin flashlight and a magnifying glass to see if I was operating correctly the first time. Come-on now. The unit is electric. Light up the darn screen for us old timers, please!!!!!!

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
I use this with about 32 Eneloop batteries, so being able to recharge 8 at a time is great. It is fast and seems to help with reconditioning, but only time will tell on that score.

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
I use this to recharge my speedlight batteries while on a multiple-day shoot. It handles 8 AA or AAA cells in any combination. The charging status of each individual cell is displayed which lets me see how closely I've been cutting my battery usage. I like the slow-charge option as it will extend my battery life. The unit appears to be well made, not flimsy like some others I've owned. It's a bit on the large/heavy side, but I'm not taking it backpacking now, am I? You'll be happy with this unit.

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
This battery charger is the best. It charges 8 batteries at a time and reads how charged the battery is to begin with. This way the charger is able to charge each battery individually. Saving the life of the battery. We also used the recycle option on some old batteries that wouldn't charge. This charger completely drains the battery and begins charging fresh. This has been able to save some old batteries for us to use.

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
As far as I'm concerned, this is the only charger to get if nickel metal hydride batteries are tools of your trade. It charges up to eight batteries individually, shows you individual battery levels, has a deplete/refresh feature, a quick charge or longer soft charge option, and will not under or overcharge the batteries. I bought two of them to replace the chargers that I had because they never fully charged the batteries without having to re-charge two or three times.

Wow, if only i had done this awhile back. These are great. Convenient, easy to use, powerful and fast. Everything you want in a battery. I think that I could use these without having to also attach my quantum turbo sc as well. It recycles fast enough that for most of my uses with 580ex11's I don't need em any longer. Knowing I can recharge the batteries within an hour is great, and knowing that I'm going out with fully charged batteries is awesome. Knowing how fast they are, and how many flashes I can get just gives me a ton more confidence when I'm using them for real jobs rather than only test shoots. They've made a big difference in my using the speedlites.
I'm buying more of them....

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
This thing is perfect for my use. I do a lot of gigs as a sound recordist on film set and all my gear goes through at least two sets of AA in a long production day, so this charger comes in real handy as it can charge a set of 8 AA in about an hour and there's also a 2-hour option that is easier on battery longevity. The thing is ligtweight (save for the power brick) and pretty compact. I'm happy.

Although I prefer Sanyo Eneloops, their chargers are not ideal (8 hours). The Powerex charger excels in speed (1-2 hours for a charge), the ability to individually charge batteries and the LCD display that shows you the status of each individual battery.

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
I bought this on the suggestion from the Podcast "Big lens, Fast Shutter".
Here's why you can play battery god. You can bring your rechargeable batteries back from the dead.
This has three charging modes. Conditioning, soft and normal.
Conditioning allows you to refresh almost any battery and get it to perform at it's full charge. This mode will take around 16 hours and works very well on not only batteries that you think are dead and un-useful. But you can use them (and is suggested) to use on batteries you purchase brand new or have sat for a long time. (2 weeks or more suggested)
Soft charging is 2 hours long and it's probably the best mode for keeping any of your rechargeable batteries performing for the full expected amount of cycles.
Normal charging mode is it's "fast" charge an only takes a hour. It's for when you need to charge them "now" and is a lot better than any of these so called "speed" 15 min chargers that will actually degrade your battery faster as it charges faster.
I bought one and probably will buy another considering I have a lot of things that use AA batteries.

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
I previously just used the cheap 4-cell Energizer chargers for all of my batteries and thought they were doing a good job. I bought this because I wanted a faster re-charge time.
Out of the box, it was simple and easy to use by following the directions. It charges my new bateries in under an hour (depending on level of charge the batteries already have).
I had some Garmin and other batteries that were 2+ years old and thought they were on their last leg. I put them in the charger and and they faulted. I put them on a slow charge and re-condition at the same time. It took almost 24 hours, but their almost as good as new. They hold a good charge now and are slightly above labeled voltage.
I now have about 80 batteries for my flashes, lights, and various electronics. With one unit I can charge them all in about 2 days if they are completely discharged.

Comments about Powerex MH-C801D 8-Cell 1-Hour Charger for AA / AAA NiMH / NiCD Batteries:
When I received this charger I reconditioned two sets of AA batteries that I use for my Nikon D 700 MB-10 and SB 800 Flash.
When I started the reconditioning I noticed that 4 of the batteries weren't even in their charge and that is what I had suspension of. After the cycle they seem to last longer but I haven't really used the camera that much so far. I've only had the MH-C801D Charger for less than a month.
The other charger was an 8 position dual battery charger which will not charge the batteries correctly.
