NAS Compatibility
The WD Red Hard Drive features NASware technology. This advanced firmware technology enables seamless integration, robust data protection and optimal performance for systems operating in NAS and RAID environments.
NASware Technology
The NASware technology improves NAS storage performance by eliminating common hard drive concerns in NAS systems like compatibility, integration, upgradeability, reliability and cost of ownership.
3D Active Balance Plus
Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in a multi-drive system that would reduce the life span of the hard drives and degrade their performance over time. The enhanced dual-plane balance control technology significantly improves overall drive performance and reliability.
Enhanced Reliability
The WD Red Hard Drive, with a 35% MTBF improvement over standard desktop drives, is designed and manufactured to be a reliable and robust solution.
Compatibility
The WD Red Hard Drive is specifically designed and tested for small offices and home offices' 1-5 bay NAS systems.
IntelliPower
IntelliPower is a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, the WD Red Hard Drives consume less current during startup, reducing the peak loads on systems during the boot process.
Acronis True Image WD Edition Software
Acronis True Image WD Edition Software allows you to completely clone the current system drive onto the new WD Red Hard Drive. The cloning makes an exact copy of the old system drive onto the new drive, including the operating system, applications, data, preferences and email settings. Acronis True Image WD Edition also supports WD's Advanced Format Drives and ensures that all partitions are optimally aligned.
Premium Support
WD offers free dedicated 24x7 support line exclusively for WD Red Hard Drive customers.* 1
Energy Efficient
The innovative technology of the drive reduces the power consumption and lowers the operating temperature making the WD Red Hard Drive a reliable and an affordable solution for 24x7 NAS environments.

We've populated a NAS with these drives and they have been humming along beautifully without heat issues. Haven't had them long enough to attest to lifetime.

Comments about 1 TB WD Red SATA 3.5" NAS Hard Drive:

I bought three of these drives to use in my Netgear ReadyNAS. So far, they are running at temperatures that are significantly lower than the two 500 GB drives they replaced, This bodes well for their long term reliability. Data access is fast with no hassles, as it should be for this type of device. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Comments about 1 TB WD Red SATA 3.5" NAS Hard Drive:

I bought six of these to replace 250 GB Seagate and Hitachi drives with 45,000+ hours in a RAID configured Netgear ReadyNAS. The most notable difference is that these are running 11-13 degrees F cooler than the replaced drives. Performance is good; they are quiet; obviously too early to judge reliability, but the temperature differential bodes well.
