Product Highlights
  • Digitize 35mm Negatives & Slides
  • 7200dpi Optical Resolution
  • Automatic Dust & Scratch Removal

The PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner from Pacific Image converts your 35mm negatives and mounted slides into digital images you can see and edit on the computer. The new 7200 features a high 7200dpi resolution which allows the sensor to capture even more detail. It also enables you to produce prints as large as 12x18" at 300dpi. The unit's included slide and film holders ensure accurate placement of each frame over the sensor for correct results the first time. The built-in Magic Touch technology automatically removes dust and scratches from your images right in the scanner itself rather than via standalone software. Once you finish scanning the images, you can use the included ImageFolio v4.5 editing software.

The scanner is compatible with Windows and Mac OS, including both Windows 8 and Lion and uses a USB 2.0 connection for fast data transfers to your computer.

I use the PF7200 mostly for scanning color negative film. The film holder is robust and accurately positions the film for the best focus. The viewing window also helps in rapidly advancing the film.

CyberView is good software, but I prefer VueScan. The PF7200 scanner and VueScan is a winning combination.

Scanning speed is acceptable for my purposes, and color and resolution are very good. In fact, the files that I get from this scanner are almost as good as those that I get from my Nikon CoolScan V.

In conclusion I say that this scanner at its price level cannot be beat.

The 7200u did a very good job scanning slides during my tests. The scans are sharp, true to color, and have good shadow detail. However, the scratch and dust removal functionality was not on par with digital ICE technology I have seen and used before. I have several thousand old slides I need to scan for family archives, and I need scratch and dust removal to be as automatic as possible, so I am researching other scanners. However, for web use or small prints of scans, this scanner would be an affordable and able tool if combined with some noise reduction software.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

I have 35 mm slides dating back to 1956 and started digitalize them with my PF7200 to preserve and share some of those memories. I started with 7200 resolution, but it was saving some very big files so I reverted to 3600 and it met all my expectations completely. I did have some hesitations on the software, but if you follow the directions carefully even a septeranian can understand. The clarity cleanliness of the digitalized pictures still amazes me after many scans I had made.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

I bought this for my 75 year old dad who's not so tech savvy. He's got a lot of old slides he wanted on his iMac. Set up is easy - install the driver turn on and open software. It takes some experimenting to set your preferences which i did for him but once done you put in the slide and push the button. I gave it 4 stars because the software is not so great. This is not a "professional" unit but that said I work as a professional and would buy one if I was shooting film as a hobby.

scanner works well with well exposed slides, but if you have a darker one it just cant bring the detail out like when it's in the slide projector. Have not tried film strips yet, only 1000 slides. makes odd noise internally like a wheeel need to be greased but still function fine. would recomend.

I'm using this product to scan negatives and slides from many years ago. Quality of the output is very good - still have to do some editing in Photoshop but I expected that.I wish it would save my settings/preferences rather than each time I turn it on having to re-enter everything.I have odd size negatives so I can't do some of the big ones and the small ones have to be played around with to fit in the window to scan properly. I guess I assumed it would do all sizes of negatives (my error, not the machines).Overall, though, I am happy with the scanner.

After a false start when my first unit was defective right from the box, B&H replaced it at no cost with the unit that met all my expectations for a scaner. After trying it out on some of my oldest slides I was getting clear crisp reproductions on my computer. It was a bit difficult to weave through all the choices to finish with a scan that was excellent.

Dedicated for 135 film format it lowest price scanner with good resolution, which is around 2400 dpi.Hardware enabled dust and scratches removal is working well and fast.Nicely made and compact, bit noisy. The only not so good part is CyberView software.Negatives scans aren't good enough in dinamic range. It doesn't work well with autoexposure enabled.Color negatives scan is also only possible with minimum settings. Also color and b/w scans would come with bars sometimes and has to be rescaned.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

We have a few hundred slides that we wanted to preserve and share with family and friends. We had tried before with another scanner a couple of years back and it didn't turn out very well. This scanner has much better technology than what was affordable then and we are now very happy. The ability to "erase" blemishes from dirt and smudges is great. The focus is excellent; this was a problem with the previous machine. It is not fast but isn't terribly slow. We are using Vuescan on the Mac and that program works well with this scanner. We also scanned some negatives and that did not turn out as well. Color correction is hard to do compared to slides. I think some experimentation and practice will help. This is a good scanner and we are very happy with it.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

Firstly, there is no u in the name, that's an error. It's 7200.The scanner works quite well. However the Presto Image program that comes with it is nothing but trouble. I recommend using some other editor if you can.Scan using the Cyberview scanner desktop panel to get good results, not via an image editor. In preferences you can set the MagicTouch dust removal on or off, and other settings. MagicTouch works beautifully. I just notice a lack of the Save function. I need to watch the target folder and see the scan automatically appear there. A scan was taking ~1min on my W8, at 1000dpi.The Presto editor makes a mess of its own Registries, and you can't even uninstall it later. It has hangups starting to scan, and need to shut it down via Task Manager by force. If you must, use it ONLY for editing. Follow the written instructions on the sequence of installation.

Although I think this scanner may be difficult for a beginner to use; it is a very good quality product. The software that it comes with is average but I use Adobe Lightroom Nine to do the final editing as it does a better job.

Excellent value for the money. It comes with two carriers, one for slides and the other for 35mm negative strips. The slide carrier is rebust and dodes not warp the slides although I'm not sure if the old glass slides can be accomodated.Resolution is first-rate, up to 7200dpi.A good value for the money.

Easy to use. Bought as a gift for my grandfather, and he's enjoying scanning his slides.

Slides do take a bit of time to scan. At highest resolution, slides were taking about 5 minutes to scan.

I'm giving 4 stars because the scanner hardware is great. Yet the software and associated guide could be improved. I think someone with above average expertise can figure stuff out, but that's not everyone. One has to play around to be able to find stuff and manipulate various settings and so on. There's one menu command that I still don't know what it does. It'd be nice if it were faster, not sure whether the USB 2 interface is the bottleneck or whether one has take that much time to scan at hi-res.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

After using the Prime Film 1800 for years I upgraded to this 7200. It is the same great quality in a film scanner, but is much easier to use and the higher scan density produces great enlargements. The software is even easier to use for scanning and filing my thousands of slides and negatives. The Magic Touch and Auto Color work well on most slides and only requires a simple adjustment in Photoshop for the critical photos. When scanning a large number of slides or negatives, it is best to buy a second set of slide/negative holders to speed the process.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

I have a ton of slides from traveling through Asia and the Pacific. Slides were always a great way to share photos. About 8 years ago I used an HP flatbed scanner with an attachment and got some good results, but mostly unusable ones. This PrimeFilm scanner does wonderfully. Most all my slides are now appealing to me. I found one configuration I like and will do some post processing where needed later.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

I got this scanner for old family slides, and it seems to be working so far so good. The resolution of the scans is decent.

Set up takes a little time, but it's straight forward.

Just needed to get used to how the scans are saved. And I will be using Adobe for retouching. The scanner has simple retouch tools. If you need to really get in there to remove scratches and play around with the image, you should really use Adobe or other similar program.

Comments about Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7200 35mm Slide/Film Scanner:

Received 10 days ago, I have thus far scanned about 250 slides with the PrimeFilm 7200. I am completely satisfied with the product.

At full resolution and 16 bit scan color depth scanning to TIFF files, it does an excellent job of capturing detail and subtle tonality gradation in slides shot circa-2000 with then current lenses.

At 2400 to 3600 dpi, it does a fabulous job of quickly capturing JPGs of slides shot in the 1950s thru 1970s with then current, largely consumer-grade lenses and gear.

The 4-slide holders for cardboard mounted 35mm slides are quite rugged and certainly snap into place for accurate scans everytime. I did buy a spare slide holder, enabling me to set up the next four slides while scanning the current set.

I have not measured scan times but they seem reasonable to me. Maybe a minute to scan at 2700 dpi and two to three minute to scan at full 7200 dpi resolution.

The included manufacturer's scan software, CyberView X5-SF, does a reasonable job of color correcting and good job of removing scratches and dust from slides that have suffered inevitable color shifts with age. Still, I have found it desirable to use Adobe's Lightroom 5 to finish the job of color correction, exposure adjustment and light sharpening on just about every slide I've scanned. Those interested in finished scans of older, color shifted slides "out of the scanner" might want to investigate a more capable third party software solution to drive the scanner.
