The pepper red Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack from Lowepro is an excellent choice for a day out in the field, walk along the boardwalk with the family or even a quick down and dirty gig. It's designed to hold your DSLR with an 18-55mm lens attached and two additional moderately sized lenses, flash, accessories as well as your iPad or tablet held safely within its own dedicated compartment. It is also designed to hold your GoPro Hero 3 camera, and accessories.

The "wow" feature of this bag is that it comes with a removable camera box which, when removed, turns the pack into a full-fledged, empty pack that can be used as a daypack. The camera box comes with a storm flap for protection and two handles for easy removal. Load it beforehand, place it in the pack, and you're off. And, on days when you don't need it, just lift it out and the pack is ready for clothes, books, food, jacket or groceries.

Access is via a top loading zippered opening or its very handy side "hatch" for rapid retrieval of your camera when the shot appears. All the zippers are YKK for added durability. The 2.0 lb pack is comfortable with its adjustable backpack straps. This is an outdoor pack that is prepared for all weather eventualities since it contains Lowepro's All-Weather cover that can be rapidly deployed when the weather turns against you. The Photo Hatchback is made from strong 600D polyester and 210D nylon ripstop polyurethane-a combination made for the outdoor enthusiast. It is backed by Lowepro's lifetime warranty.

This pack is a perfect fit for my Olympus OM-D body and three lenses - plus everything else I need to carry for a full day's hike or long day cross-country skiing. The pack is very light and comfortable, holds two water bottles (or one water bottle and a small tripod), rain jacket, and lunch. There is even a pocket to hold a small tablet like my Nexus 7. The quality is excellent. At about 2 lbs. this is the perfect small pack for landscape or street photography.

I use this bag mainly for day hikes around the california and nevada regions. I also intend to use this as a secondary carryon bag since i reckon it can fit in the under chair storage. The pouch bag for the camera seems to be handy on those pesky tsa checks.(You need to put cameras and laptops out of the main bag for some reason on xray machines). I use a 60d with wide angle lens and a kit telephoto lens. The build quality is good but not as good for the price. It feels like a cheap school bag for grade schoolers. While packing my kit i found the space lacking. I can fit my small chromebook but by a very very tight margin. I cant put anything much in it like Flash, chargers, battery packs. The side pouches also are too tight for the water bottles. I should have bought a 22L counter part instead rather than this 16L backpack.

I use it for my 70d with 24-105 lens and I can't add any other big lens to the main camera compartment. BUT the quality of the bag is very high! it's really comfortable and easy to carry around and that is exactly what I wanted.

I love this backpack! It is spacious and can be adjusted to fit your needs. I was hesitant to purchase this pack because I wanted something I could put my MacBook and my camera in. After receiving it, I found out that I could adjust the flap inside to accommodate both my laptop and my camera for traveling purposes. It has plenty of space in the top to put accessories or other daily needs for trips. I love the side pockets for water bottles or a tripod. Overall, this backpack is comfortable and very useful!

Comments about Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack (Galaxy Blue):

The product is not big enough for a serious DSLR, but it's perfect for smaller cameras. The padded camera compartment is enclosed in a removable bag, which is handy. There two compartments in the bag, top and bottom, the camera bag can be placed into either (but the dedicated one is the bottom one). The top compartment is not very large - not big enough for an umbrella or water bottle (and the side pockets are too small for water bottles as well). But for snacks and smaller items it would do. The bag is comfortable and small and is great for day trips or photowalks.

Comments about Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack (Slate Gray):

I've been using this for when I go cycling because I often like to stop to take some pictures along the way. The rear camera compartment comfortably holds my Sony NEX with a telephoto lens, Macro lens, kit lens, mini-tripod(one on each side of the bag), and I still have another spot for another lens if needed.

The built-in rain cover will protect your bag and gear well, while the ventilated rear and straps will make sure you're comfortable wearing it. The 2 waterbottle holders will ensure you stay hydrated during your outdoor activity.

The removable camera compartment is a bit of a gimmick, but it's there if you can find a use for it.

Having a secured separate compartment is great, but has it's compromises that buyers should be aware of:
You have to remove your bag, and set it down to access the camera compartment, and this is something you definitely won't be able to do one-handed. So if you require something with quick access to camera without dropping whatever you're doing, then this is not the bag for you.

Am taking the 16L backpack to Europe to use as my day pack and carry-on for the flight. It holds my DSLR + two lens (18-55mm attached to the camera, & also 55-250mm).My standard Nalgene water bottle did not fit into the side pouches, so I purchased a thinner Thermos brand water bottle. I'm a 5'6" woman and the 16L backpack fits my back perfectly and still looks relatively low profile, even when stuffed full: camera & extra lens, jacket, snack, travel guide, keys, glasses, mobile, travel documents, etc.. I was surprised how much I could stuff into the top section!! I was worried the 16L would not be big enough, but it's going to be just fine for me. I think the ice up would have been too big for my back.A few suggestions - wish it had more "little pockets" internally for odds and ends like my previous Lowepro pack. Wish it came in more feminine colors. I purchased the orange, but would have loved something in pastel instead of the bright blue/orange that are available. Also wish I could more easily tie back the extra straps I won't be using (waist and chest straps).

I'll be using the backpack for hiking to securely store my camera when not in use. It's also great for a trip into Chicago.I like the size and it fits my frame well. I like the ability to store camera gear as well as other items that may be needed for a hike.It would have been good to have the 1"strap on the backpack for securing a camera keyhole holder. I was able to improvise with an 84 cents Velcro item from @.

Great backpack, rather small but I can carry all my stuff when I travel : 1 canon EOS 6D, 3 lenses (24-105mm + 50mm + 14mm) and 1 macBookAir 11" in the external pocket. The size of this external pocket is just perfect, it's just the size of the computer which is very well protected (pocket is padded) and above all it's very easy to take out (very useful during customs controls ....)And finally I still have a compartment for various stuff (wallets, charger, books ...), with zipped pockets inside. The desciption doesn't mention that the macbookair can fit inside, even the staff at B&H said it couldn't, but it really does !For me, it's just the pefect backpack for traveling !

Comments about Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack (Slate Gray):

I thought this was one of the more attractive bags I saw when browsing at a local big name brick and mortar store. In fact, I didn't know that I wanted a different camera bag than the one my camera came with until I saw this one. Of course, I thought I would get a better deal from B&H so I went home and checked it out. After a few days of looking at the Lowerpro site and B&H options, I went with this one. So far, I've only used it to go to the National Zoo. After spending several hours taking pictures, you can hardly tell anything is on your back. I also had for snacks, water and other things during the Zoo trip, very convenient. Its one of the most comfortable bags I've ever worn. The opening for the camera is against your back, which is one of the main reasons I chose this model. I think that's a great idea for security and I plan on doing a lot of photography in populated areas. Its kind of nondescript, in a way that its not like "Hey everybody, I have an expensive camera in this bag". The only reason I gave it 4 stars (its really a 4 1/2), is because my 70-300mm lens was too long to fit in the camera compartment. I'm not sure the larger size bag would solve this problem of mine, but I ended up putting it in the zippered section inside the top compartment. I usually don't use that lens a lot, so not that big of a deal, but needed it that day at the Zoo.

Comments about Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack (Pepper Red):

I wanted to purchase a backpack case since I travel a lot and the sling bag I previously used was causing back pain. I did a lot of shopping around before picking this bag. I have always used Lowepro cases and commend them for great quality. I have only had this bag for a couple of weeks, but it is very versatile and an inconspicuous way to carry your gear. Your camera loads from the backside and has a completely removable padded box, which allows you to transform the bag into a regular functioning backpack if need be. The upper part is quite roomy. I carry a Canon 5D with a mounted 85mm fixed lens and 50mm fixed lens in the back compartment, along with my 28-300mm lens and Canon G12 in the upper compartment. There is also plenty of room for SD cards, filters, and other accessories, plus a flat zip pocket on the front for notebooks (and they say a ipad, but haven't tried that) and two side pockets for water, etc. Since I travel a lot and often in changing weather conditions, this bag is great for its built in cover to protect from rain and dirt. All around a great bag for active photographers.

This bag has been awesome for me because I hike a lot and also take a lot of pictures. It can hold anything from my GoPro gear, to my 5D. The top pocket is massive and I can hold my jacket, and other things. The side water bottle holders hold my big Camelbak water bottle. If you're a photographer that hikes and loves the outdoors, this bag or the 22L would be the perfect choice
