The 40mm f/2.0 Ultron SL II Aspherical Lens for Canon from Voigtlander is an ultra-sharp manual focus lens for use on Canon full frame DSLRs and SLRs. When mounted on a camera with an APS-C size sensor the focal length translates to 60mm. The lens' manual focus action is very smooth and precise and its aspherical, multi-coated optics create sharp images with minimal aberration. Metering and exposure information is passed between lens and camera thanks to the lens' CPU which provides auto-functions with virtually every compatible Canon 35mm and digital SLR.
Included with the 40mm F/2.0 Ultron is a close-up (macro) conversion lens that offers a minimum focus distance of 9.85" (25 cm). The close-up lens is attached via a 52-39mm adapter. In addition to attaching the close-up lens, the adapter allows the attachment of 39mm filters and serves as a lens hood to deflect unwanted light and protect the lens.

Comments about Voigtlander 40mm f/2.0 Ultron SL II Aspherical Lens for Canon:
This has become my favorite lens very quickly. Great optics (very sharp), fairly fast and so small. Focus ring is very smooth and well damped. Love the size, perfect for travel, street and hiking probalbly going to buy the 20mm too, checking it out this week as a loner. If the image quality is good, for me these two may be all I need for 99% of my work.

Comments about Voigtlander 40mm f/2.0 Ultron SL II Aspherical Lens for Canon:
Being a manual pancake lens, I was worried it could be difficult to use. It turns out to be a wonderful lens, very easy to use and focus on my 5D mark II (with an appropriate focusing screen). The image quality is amazing, on par with the Zeiss (18mm and 85mm) and Canon L (50mm, 135mm and 24-70mm) lenses I use.
I appreciate the light weight, especially for long photo walks in the city.
The build quality is amazing, just like Zeiss lenses. After all, they all come from the same place. The focusing ring is smooooooth and very easy to use. I love how it's unobstrusive, even on a DSLR like the 5D.
I highly recommend this lens if you're into manual focusing.
