The COOLPIX L610 Digital Camera (Black) is a 16MP CMOS point-and-shoot from Nikon. Small in stature but big on pixels, the L610 enables even the most casually captured snapshots to end up as immaculately detailed memories. Features such as the 14x zoom 4.5-63mm NIKKOR ED glass lens with an equivalent 35mm range of 25-350mm, the Optical VR Image Stabilization, and a built-in pop-up flash, all work together with the L610's large sensor. Whether the resulting image is displayed on your favorite digital device or blown up to a large print size you'll be impressed by the clarity.
In addition to producing still images, the L610 also puts 1080p HD video capture at your fingertips. Literally. The camera features one-touch video recording, saving you from having to navigate multiple menus. Instead, when you see a moment you have to record, all you have to do is hit the red button and the movie making will begin. Videos are enhanced with stereo sound for accurate audio as well.
No matter what you're recording with the L610, however, you'll frame the scene with the camera's rear 3" 460,000K LCD display. Navigating menus, framing and replaying shots, and even selecting in-camera filters or special effects is a breeze.
Additional features of the L610 are numerous, so let's just focus on a few of the big ones. First off, the camera is simply powered by AA batteries. That translates into an easily replaceable power source that is available virtually anywhere you find yourself. It also means no more waiting for the battery to charge.
Another convenient feature is the Intelligent AF System. The job of the AF System is to ensure that your images come out clear and blur-free with minimal effort on your part. This feature focuses on the main subject in the photo and automatically adjusts the camera's focus. All you have to do is turn Intelligent AF on when you want to enable the function, and you're free to snap away without worry.
In the same vein, the L610 also features macro shooting to 0.4". Whether you blog about your meals on vacation or simply love to capture extreme close-ups, the macro function allows you to get very close to your subjects for successful images.
Another feature that bears mentioning is the camera's 1.9 frames per second capture (up to 4 shots). This is great for shooting sports, children, or any other fast-moving subjects.

It has its pros and cons.
The quality of the images and video are fairly good for a camera in this price range and it's pretty easy to use.
The downsides would be that you can't zoom during videos (which I didn't find out until after I bought it and was very disappointed in), you can't change the most important manual settings (no ability to control f-stops or shutter speed), and probably the biggest issue... this thing eats batteries like MAD when you're taking videos.
Seriously, I burned through the "included" batteries after ONE MINUTE of video. After that I used high quality rechargeables (Eneloop) and you still can't get more than a couple/few minutes of videos before it won't take any more (it either stops videos entirely or you get weird artifacts in the videos like the screen blinking black for a second). Funnily enough, even when it doesn't have enough power to take any more videos, you can still take plenty of pictures with it.
Overall, it's decent and I'll be keeping it because the only way to step up to noticeably better quality and features would be to spend more than twice as much as I did. I'll just have to remember to bring LOTS of batteries if I ever go somewhere that I intent to take a lot of videos.

I use the product for touring photos. Easy to carry and use. Great zoom range and high pixels for the price. I don't like the on/off button so close to the shutter button. I;ve accidentally turned of the camera in the middle of a shoot. Big fingers I guess.

I am a casual photographer. For the price of this camera, it takes great pictures. I also have a Nikon D3100. The L610 picture quality is outstanding. The only thing that is not so great is that it goes through batteries. No big deal because the batteries are just regular AA cheap batteries.

We were shopping for a camera to take close-up pictures of a few jewlry pieces. We have tried G12 and didn't get the quality we were looking for. However, stomp into this one and was amazed by its close-up ability with any menu tuning. It does a good job on bring out the highlights on white Jade.

Wanted a camera that I could fit in my pocket to take on vacation. Never had a "AA" battery powered camera before, so, I brought along an 8-pack of AAs. The first pair were gone by the time we got to Florida and the rest were gone within 2 days.
Not a bad camera but such a "waste" to have all those features when you have to keep replacing batteries. I didn't even attempt taking video. How can you take video when you can't even take more than a few stills !
I'll keep the camera but only for occasions when I need to take only a few shots, that's it.

I have recommended this camera to a friend, whom purchased it for her honeymoon trip. The pictures came back looking like a professional took all their candid shots...I used it for my anniversary and we look like our pictures were staged professionally. I love this camera.

Purchased this camera as first one ever owned. After some research I found this camera to be more user friendly. Biggest advantage for me is the use of AA batteries. Didn't have to buy extra battery packs specifically for this camera. Just recently used on a trip and was really impressed with the zoom capabilities and auto-focusing. Great camera!

When I found myself in need of a camera recently, I turned to my younger son who is a professional photographer. He is also a wonderful son who knows his mother's limitations and camera use! He insisted I turn to B&H for a Nikon L610 to take family and travel photos, as well as the occasional attempt at photography as art. I love my Nikon! It fits my hand perfectly and is easy to use. The quality of the photos is above any camera I have ever owned. The high resolution gives me sharp photos with excellent lighting. I am sure to have many years of fun taking photos from home to around the world! Special thanks to my son and to B&H. The process was very easy and the staff was incredibly helpful to me.

Great, easy camera with a fantastic zoom. It's easy for a beginner to learn. Saw it struggling on the LCD with some difficult color temperatures, but it adjusted for the picture.

Comments about COOLPIX L610 Digital Camera (Silver):
This is the most recent in a succession of point-n-shoot digital cameras I've purchased to supplement my Nikon DSLR. Image quality in (very) low light (i.e., outdoors, at night) is FAR better than I expected. More zoom than I need or want, and especially with a pocket camera like this, an extended telephoto image is not likely to be sharp without a tripod, and few users of pocket cameras use a tripod. The lens on the L610 seems to be a cut above the lenses on my previous digital pocket cameras, from both Nikon and Canon, and lens quality was among the primary drivers of this purchase.
All the positives aside, and there are quite a few, I would not recommend the Nikon L610. Shutter lag is completely unacceptable, sometimes approaching half a second. If your subject is dead, sleeping, or inanimate, it's a good little pocket camera, but if your subject is moving, even a little, extended shutter lag means your image will probably be a blur, no matter how much you try to anticipate and compensate for movement. Of the half-dozen or so digital pocket cameras I've owned and used in the past few years, the Nikon L610 is easily the worst of the bunch in terms of shutter lag.

I have used several camer's in my life. This one is not up to my expectation. After clikcing a shot, it takes a while for next shot. Picture quality is not that great!. Also flash is not enough. Not a simple point and shoot one. Overall there are many better cmaeras than this for this price.

Comments about COOLPIX L610 Digital Camera (Black):
It's difficult to find a good pocket camera that can use AA batteries. My quest is finally over! This is bit larger than a small pocket camera but worth it due to the optical zoom. I have owned several AA battery cameras and finally, one that can zoom and also, handle very well, low light situations. Another plus, the flash doesn't automatically turn on in low light situations. Why is this important, concert pics. There is nothing more annoying than turning off the flash only to be reset when you turn the camera off and back on. Unless you are up close, a flash is useless at a concert. This one has to be manually turned on. Another plus, the flash is set a bit higher so it really helps with pics when you do use it. This flash option is a major plus; you don't realize you miss it until you don't have it anymore. Some have complained about battery life, well, that is the price you pay when you have the convenience of being anywhere in the world and not being stuck with dead rechargables and no recharging station in sight. Any store will always sell you AA batteries. Another plus, one touch video recording. No mistakes with that one. Buttons feel solid and should last. I can't say anything negative about this camera...two thumbs up!
