  • 17.6 lb Load Capacity
  • Arca-Type Compatible Quick Release
  • Separate Panning Lock
  • Bubble Levels

The BE-117 Ball Head from Oben is a lightweight aluminum ball head that features an Arca-type compatible quick-release system. It has a large locking knob to control the movement of the ball, and a separate knob for the 360° panning movement.

The BE-117's multiple knobs enable higher-precision adjustments to the head than are possible with single-lever heads. Taking panoramic photos is simple, for instance, because you can pan a specific number of degrees while keeping the head's tilt position locked. In fact, the BE-117 features degree markings around its circumference to aid in that task. A notch in the ball head allows you to quickly change between portrait and landscape orientation.

The included quick-release plate attaches to your camera via its standard 1/4"-20 screw, and is secured in place with an Arca-type clamp. A locking knob controls the opening and closing of the aluminum clamp simply and reliably. Two safety screws on the bottom of the plate help prevent your camera from accidentally being released when adjusting the plate fore and aft. One bubble level on the clamp, and another on the locking knob, both ensure that your camera will be level with the horizon.

I love, love this ball head. The ball head that came with my tripod was way too small to support the weight of my camera and zoom lens. This ball head combined with the L bracket (also purchased from B&H) work perfectly together. I am happy with my purchases. BTW, B&H customer service is A-1 with me!

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

Let us start with the bottomline: It is a really well made ball head that many might be ignoring. If you have a camera lens setup that is between 5-10 pounds and well balanced this is a very comfortable ball head (be aware that it is rated at 17.5 pounds). I really loved the smoothness of the unit plus I am invested in Arca-type plates. However I use cameras and 600mm lenses that top out at 15 pounds and often require carrying around on the tripod. The ball head had trouble managing it. I purchased this to be a cheap backup to my old acratech on a backup tripod. I had to return it for another brand.

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

I don't own other ball heads, but I can't imagine many improvements over this for the money. The lock knobs work fine, but it would be nicer to have fewer turns to lock in place and a more satisfying click or something to indicate the max torque needed to lock has been achieved. But, that is probably wishing for too much at this great price. The base does pan very smoothly when unlocked. The size and appearance of the base matches perfectly with the Slik 700DX PRO TRIPOD and it looks like they were made for each other.

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

This ball head feels solid and sturdy. I'm not sure if other ball heads are lighter than this one. It feels a bit heavy on my carbon fiber tripod. It is very easy to use and holds my camera wherever I want it to be.

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

The head is feels and looks pretty solid. It's a high quality piece of engineering. The only slight negative is that the panning knob doesn't lock the head in place from turning completely. The big tightening knob requires more turning than I'd like.

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

I bought this monopod along with a BE-117 Ball Head by Oben as an "experiment". I like shooting both videos and photos of my grandson's sports and a monopod seemed to be a better option than a tripod. I'm using a Canon T5i with a 55-250mm lens. Because of the constant movement of sports, I felt a ball head was also needed.OK – it wasn't as easy as I first envisioned, but with a little practice I was shooting right and left, up and down while zooming in and out. With the leg of the monopod angled down and away from me, I didn't feel any significant flex in the leg as I gyrated around with either the camera or my body. This would seem to confirm the overall opinion that this monopod is sturdy and should last many years. I'm happy with the purchase.

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

Great product! I have used other similar ball heads and this one is one of the best performing, in my opinion. Its solid feel, adjustment abilities and levels make it superior to even more expensive products. Plus, it comes with an Arca- Swiss plate that can be attached to another camera body, meaning I do not have to pay extra for one!

Comments about Oben BE-117 Ball Head:

Bought this tripod head fro my Sirui tripod. It solidly built and has some weight to it. The panning is very smooth and can be locked in with a screw below it. The ball head movement is also very smooth and locks in tight. One of the main reason I purchased it was for the two levels on the platform that are very helpful for keeping everything straight. Another reason was the quick release function and plate which make it super easy to munt and unmounts the camera. Finally, the price!! Don't take the price as being cheap in quality, this head has a very premium build. I highly recommend this tripod head!!!

These ball head mounts seem not only well made but are also smartly designed. The locking system is easy and quick. The ball head locks steady and the ability to pan after the ball is locked is extremely convenient. The included 3/8 - 1/4 reducer bushing are also quite useful. I'm using this on a small video tripod. It holds 8 to 10 lb. I've put on it, although I'll usually only put about 5 pounds on it. Being able to pan is very nice.

Everything I hoped for any more! was very surprised with how well made this ball head is, and I couldn't be happier! It truly is a precision piece of equipment and I trust my camera on it all day! The levels are great, and knobs are very sturdy. My only complaint is I wish there was a left/right version of the knobs.

This is my first ball head. It is very easy to use and can hold my heavy lenses with no problems. I am putting it through its paces at the beach taking night pictures.

I bought this ball head after the headaches of using. Pan head for seascapes. I gotta say this ball head exceeded my expectations. It's well built and sturdy but stil light enough to lug around with my gear. The motions are smooth but still accurate with precision. I'm very pleased and looking forward to purchasing an oben tripod soon. Thanks B&H :)

I ordered this to replace a Manfrotto 496 RC2 ball head mainly because I didn't like the RC2 quick release and plate. Everything now seems to support the Arca-Swiss type mount, my Cotton Carrier hand grip included. Immediately I was impressed with the quality and operation on this ballhead. Very smooth and the dial indeed goes from 0-10. I have a Benro V2 head where the adjustment knob only moves about a quarter turn. Works good but it goes more like 6-10. Noticeable quality difference. Also, this head is slightly smaller than the RC2 but has more than 4lb higher capacity. Very delighted to now have it on my travel tripod.
