Hoya 49mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens

You Pay: $29.99

Have you ever wished that your lens could focus closer than it does? Imagine that you could put a magnifying glass in front of your camera's lens. Close-up lenses work in this fashion and are the simplest and least expensive method of close-up photography. They are available in different "powers" (diopters). A +1 close-up lens will allow you to focus your lens somewhat closer than it already does. A +2 close-up lens will allow you to focus closer than the +1. A +4 lens will allow you to focus even closer than a +2, and so on. These lenses can be used individually or in any combination to achieve ultra-close focus. The maximum magnification achieved with these attachments will depend on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close focusing capability of that particular lens.

This kit consists of a +1, +2, and +4.

NOTE: A +1 combined with a +2 will equal a +3, while a +2 combined with a +4 will equal a +6, and so on.

Comments about Hoya 49mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens:

I came to close-up filters with a mindset derived from my experience in the late 60's/early 70's: basically another piece of glass that, while magnification is as advertised, will noticeably degrade image quality. My initial experience with the +1 and +2 filters in this set by Hoya has convinced me to discard that idea. I do sometimes need to get closer to an object being photographed than allowed by the minimum focus on the lens. I have been very pleased with the resulting image quality when I have used these filters. They have earned a place in my camera bag.

Comments about Hoya 49mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens:

Macro photography is one of my favorite with subjects ranging from plant to close up of potteries etc. A dedicated macro lens does not always have the right angle of view; so I often swap in a 28 mm or a 135 mm that is not macro in design. The extension tube set I have leaves a focus gap. This is where this close-up kit comes in. It is exactly what I was expecting, nothing more nothing less.
