Hoya 52mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens

You Pay: $34.50

Have you ever wished that your lens could focus closer than it does? Imagine that you could put a magnifying glass in front of your camera's lens. Hoya Close-up Lenses work in this fashion and are the simplest and least expensive method of close-up photography. They are available in different "powers" (diopters).

These lenses can be used individually or in any combination to achieve ultra-close focus
The maximum magnification achieved with these attachments will depend on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close focusing capability of that particular lens
A +1 close-up lens will allow you to focus your lens somewhat closer than it already does; A +2 close-up lens will allow you to focus closer than the +1; A +4 lens will allow you to focus even closer than a +2
A +1 combined with a +2 will equal a +3, while a +2 combined with a +4 will equal a +6, and so on

Wanted to try some macro photography but limited finances won't allow a new lens just yet. Decided to try some close-up filters. Bought the Hoya's based on their reputation for quality and I am not disappointed. Using them on a Nikkor 18-55mm lens (always@55mm)and the photos have been clear and sharp. I've used them individually, in combinations and even stacked all three together with excellent results. I would highly recommend these to anyone wanting to play around with close up photography. They can't be beat for the money!

Comments about Hoya 52mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens:

One of my best purchases for macro/jewelry photography. These allow my lens to focus much closer, allowing me to get sharper manual focus and fill the frame with the object. The detail these allow me to capture easily rivals that of a several hundred dollar lens. And I really like that they came in a 4-slot case giving me an extra slot for another filter.

I've been using a 10x macro filter for some time now and this set of lesser ratio filters works wonderfully for my close up photography. Stacking them does create a vignette but that is expected.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens:

The product is easy as screwing it onto the bevel of your lens. Once attached it is easy to meter light and take a photo. The only issue is the focusing can be a little frustrating. I decided to stay on auto focusing due to this issue and am happy with the results. I wish the product came with instructions and tips on taking good photos with the product. You need to know what they are and what to do with them before purchase. The case is a little bulky.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens:

I recently bought this kit to use it with my canon macro 50mm lens, and I wasnt sure if it was going to work the way I wanted. When I received it, I WAS AMAZED! I coul not believe the quality and sharpness of my macro pictures. Another thing I liked was the strong build of the lens, that also include a convenient carrying pouch. If you are looking to take studio like macro photography, dont think about it anymore. This is the way to go!

I use this with my Nikon D7000, and a 50mm or 28mm lens. They have very crisp images and I like that you can change the magnification by adding another lens. I'm glad it comes with a case for the lenses. Your f-stop will drop slightly with each additional lens, not too much though, a small bump up of the iso can correct it.

Have a 52mm diameter lens? Want to turn it into a macro? Put these filters on it and get in close. If you stack the filters, you can literally focus right on top of the object you're focussing on. You can create some very interesting effects doing this.

A cheap alternative to anyone wanting to try macro photography and video. these lenses allow for extreme closeups and work great with my canon 50mm 1.8 lens. Although something like a tiny bug will not fill up the whole frame, a 25 cent coin will.

I highly recommend purchasing this filter. I didnt feel like dishing out $800 for the nikon 105mm macro since I will only use this mainly for ring shots.
I have used it a couple times now and I am very satisfied with the results with no loss of quality in my images.

I found this close-up filter set was exactly what I was looking for, ie., an inexpensive way to try out macro photography. For the first timers, it might take you sometime to really getting the hang of using these. I used them in stacks with +4,+2, and +1 combination with the +4 nearest the lens. The very shallow dof does require use of a tripod if all three filters are stacked. And its best to shoot under direct sunlight in the day. The more light the better. A great addition to someone who wants to try his/her hand at macro photography while spending cheap bucks.

I got this for use in a promo video for a jeweler. I use it on a 50mm 1.8 Canon lens. This thing works wonderful!

Most of the time i have all of the macros on the lens for the most magnification.

These are very good lens. However I am giving 4 stars as I am having problem with focusing with +4 lens. Used them only once so not sure if my camera was to close (I have Nikon 5000 with 55-200 lens) so it could be my lens or something else (not really sure). Probably need to play with this little bit more. on other hand +1 size, +2 size and +3 (when you combine two of them) are really awesome, producing incredible pictures (like those seeing in magazines or galleries). They are really worth the money and they are very good quality wise. So with all of this, would I buy them again. Absolutely yes.

I am a luthier (one who builds and repairs guitars) and need to take close-up shots of guitar damage and parts, for documentation and ordering purposes. With my Nikon D3000, I was limited to 4 ft close-ups. With the +2 and +4 screw-in lenses, I was able to take close-ups of 18 inches and secure a respectable image size. Even after enlarging to 8" X 10", the images were sharp and clear... easy for my suppliers to identify.
In addition, I am able to take clear close-ups for 'before and after' shots of work performed, so I have a record of the results. It also guarantees that a false claim about an instrument's condition cannot be made by an unscrupulous customer.
