If you are carrying limited gear and accessories, this is a GREAT bag. it's simple, clean, no frills and made for simplicity and function. Even with "limited" gear, I was able to fit alot in this bag.

I was able to carry my Canon 5d with battery grip and a 24-70mm attached to the camera body, a 70-200mm, a 50mm macro, 50mm, 14mm and 17mm, a remote controller, speed light, spare batteries, a singh ray filter in it's case, and of course memory cards. I did stack my macro on one lens but placed a separator between them. The top zipper compartment is what allowed me to carry the flash, filter and batteries. I also carried my laptop and sometimes my iPad, dependent on my needs at the time.

My only complaint would be that it has only one small zipper pocket next to the top compartment and one small zipper compartment on top of the larger compartment - that's it - except for the laptop slot. The top compartment (main one) is large though. It would be nice to add a couple of compartments or maybe at least loops/clips to attach accessories.

I sat it in the dirt several times, and it wiped clean very easily. The base is kind of rubbery-like (not sure of material) but it grips well and wipes clean as well.

it's not overly wide, so it fits comfortably on your back. Straps are comfortable and have good adjusting clips and ties.

The access compartment that opens for easy camera removal is great, even with a battery grip. It sits snugly in place.

The access compartment for the laptop is a side opening - which is great.

I like that this backpack keeps its shape - it doesn't get all loose as you remove items - the shape is consistent.

So far the zippers are snug and close well and it appears to be well made with solid stitching and handles. Thus far, I am enjoying it.

I will start by saying that I am keeping the bag but not for the right reasons. I'll use it primarily as a static storage device for my gear and not something I would regularly take out and about.

I bought the bag to store my Nikon D800 and associated gear; I liked the idea of a real backpack with the side access capability of a sling. First thing I noticed was that the zippers aren't very smooth; someone else mentioned the issue in a previous review and I thought it wouldn't bother me much... I was mistaken. Next thing I noticed was that the bag, at the side opening, slumped under the weight of the camera (with the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED on) when worn. I tried to adjust the internal padding to accommodate the extra weight which highlighted the next issue, the velcro on the dividers is only on one side of each end and some "walls" of the bag will not adhere to the velcro.

It does have ample storage space; I can fit my D800 with the 24-70mm mounted, an 85mm prime in one of the cubby holes, the SB-910 AF Speedlight in one of the bigger cubby, and a couple of hoods in the remaining holes.

Like I said, a decent bag but not great.

Comments about Brenthaven BX2 Backpack (Charcoal Gray):

I just bought this for a trip to the west coast and it works great. It's a great all in one carry on for the plane and carry around in general. I can fit all of my laptop and camera gear, and it has a few nice pockets and plenty of space for things like passports, pens, earbuds, books, snacks, etc. +1 on the ample space despite other reports; I can easily fit my D700, a 70-200 f4, a 16-35 f4, and a 35mm f1.4 - with any of those lenses mounted - as well as a full sized flash and multiple chargers. It's pretty deep, so things can get a little loose, as someone else mentioned. My solution has been to use some dividers as horizontal dividers instead of vertical ones to keep the equipment against the back. I think the only aspect that was better on some other bags was the back support - it's comfortable but not particularly stiff - otherwise the layout, construction, and attention to detail were better than the other possibilities (Tamrac Evolution 8; Lowepro Transit 350 AW), which I checked out in the flesh.

Comments about Brenthaven BX2 Backpack (Charcoal Gray):

I was so excited for this pack... It has plenty of room for all my gear without being to bulky, it can strap a tripod to the side without blocking any pockets, and doesn't looks like I'm carrying 4k worth of gear around.

The only problem I have is the side camera pocket. It doesn't seem to keep my 60d snug regardless of what lens I have on it. I'll place it perfectly but after a few minutes of walking around it slips out of place and bulges out - still safe in the pack... But it looks a bit odd.

Other than that, this pack rocks!

Great bag as described. Fits my Canon 6D, 70-200, 24-70, 50mm, 85mm plus flash, iPad, MacBook Air, spare Canon G1 X camera, and a light lunch/snack. Some reviews say that the bag will not fit all of the above but it does. You just have to tactfully adjust inner compartments.

Only complaint I have is the zippers. For a bag in this price range I would have expected heavier-duty, smoother zippers. They do the job I suppose but tend to stick.

            Nevertheless a great bag.

This bag I used for 26 days for CBS Sports shooting march madness...It was rugged and still is, fast, and very well built. I Had a tenba bag similar...not even close. The shoulder straps are very well built and really comfortable. I think that this bag has all the room you need without getting too heavy.

Comments about Brenthaven BX2 Backpack (Charcoal Gray):

I just purchased this bag and am quite impressed. It comes with some nice features like a built in LED for finding gear in no light situations. I switched from an Ape Case and liked that this could hold my 15" MacBook Pro as well as my gear. The Ape Case was missing the laptop holder. It's lightweight and doesn't add a lot of bulk, plus there's plenty of space for accessories.

The multiple openings are convenient and make grabbing gear easier. I have no complaints with my several lenses and flashes and 5D Mk iii. I carry longer glass in an attached outer case.

too small for a kit that includes 24-70 2.8l ii, 70-200 2.8l ii, and a 5diii. the padding is thin and not as good as lowepro or thinktank. i have several brenthaven products, and this is the first disappointment. all their other gear is top notch. if you need a light pack for a light aps-c body (think rebel or nikon 3k or 5k series) with smallish lenses, or a mirrorless setup, this may be ok. their video that shows this line of packs being used with canon pro gear is misleading, since those setups won't fit! this is their first foray into photo packs and unfortunately, it shows. returned the next day to see if i could find something more suited for my full frame kit with typical lenses.
