I use this product to shoot music events and festivals with my Nikon D4s and D4. It stays with me all day long and gets a lot of rugged use. It is by far the strongest monopod I've ever used and easily the lightest. I usually forget it's even there when it's not in use.

It says on the monopod carbon composite.Everywhere else on the box and web site carbon fiber. So what Manfrotto seems to be doing is selling it as carbon fiber, then when I received it it a mixture of composite.Vitex the main company of Gitzo and Manfrotto ,it seem to be the cheap composite goes in Manfrotto and the pure carbon fiber in the Gitzo monopods. The last section of my monopod has the nut protruding with a sharp edge on the lock.Poor assembly.Seems strong. I know of a good camera man who can file down the sharp edge, and maybe recess the protruding bolt and nut on the smallest leg.The other two locks are much better. Not worth the hassle sending back since I,am very fussy.I will pay more for new Gitzo tripod Carbon fiber In the future. It is the real deal. The g locks are much better. And they are touting the super g locks in the newest generation. My now old aluminum Gitzo tripods have superb leg locks and silken deployment. They are way heavy,so they will stay home for studio use.I have time to choose a new carbon fiber Gitzo and use the rebate they are offering to defray cost.Gitzo is Italian for Primo.Manfrotto leaves something to desire.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Monopod:

I got this monopod because it's light enough to not cause my 400 2.8 to tip over if I set it down on the hood. My Aluminum monopod was too heavy for the lens to balance, even with a body attached.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Monopod:

I've learned to buy the better quality items in life. This is no exception. This carbon fiber is far superior to the aluminum Monopods and Tripods. They don't dent if you accidentally bang it against something. The build quality and beauty is first rate. Put a nice head on it and it enables you to be fast and have good support. Excellent for outdoor macro photography.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Monopod:

I bought this monopod due to it's weight, name, and the fact I can collapse it into a small suitcase if needed when traveling. So far the Manfrotto Monopod is all I thought it would be: lightweight, easy to use, and collapsable. It has sturdy construction and each leg slides out and in with ease. Coupled with the matching fluid head it works well for me. So far I have used it mainly for sports photography.

I am a sports photographer and use this for my 400mm lens set-up. The monopod along with the swivel head (a must have) works extremely well for fast moving subjects. It adjusts rapidly, low weight and allows me to increase productivity (more tack sharp images from each shoot)

This unit is just so light I take it everywhere. I find myself using more as a walking stick with one of my point and shots attached to the top. I do a lot of panoramic shots with this rig and it works great. I use it in the woods where light is low and also pictures of streams where you use a very long exposure to capture unique photos of water in motion. Honestly the unit is so light you hardly know its a monopod. I can mount my larger digital Sony's and Nikon's but there is a limit to what I should do with it. You cannot take a vertical photo with it without a tilt head attached.

For a long time I've been working on the problem of how to stabilize my camera, without a heavy shoulder harness or a bulky cage that limits my movement. This carbon fiber monopod with a fluid head is the perfect solution. I used it on a classroom shoot and it was a dream. I can adjust the height by leaning (or collapsing) the stick, and the fluid head enables me to pan anywhere. The image still looks "handheld" and there's a nice weight to it now. Plus the carbon fiber weighs about one pound, so it's easy to maneuver between desks. I'm a petite female so I appreciate lighweight gear. Very happy with this purchase!
