The Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod With Ball Head QR Kit is a lightweight support system for DSLR cameras with a maximum height of 70.47 and a load capacity of 11 lb. This 294 kit uses a "next-generation" carbon tubing: an innovative composite tube with optimized fiber angles that provide consistent advantages over aluminum alloy tubing in terms of rigidity, lightness and stability.

The three-section construction with larger diameter carbon tubing than its sister 293 version makes the 294 more rigid in order to maximize camera stability and minimize vibration, so it's ideal for zoom lenses that amplify any camera shake. The 294 tripod features leg locks that were redesigned for better ergonomics. Two-position leg angle settings make low-angle shooting possible, and a rapid center column adds flexibility and extends the height range.

The ball head (with quick release camera plate) allows you to re-position your camera quickly, and then lock it solidly in place using the single locking knob, ready to shoot in an instant. Because the ball head is so compact, it’s also ideally suited for travelling photographers, making the whole kit easier to pack into luggage or your photography bag. The head is interchangeable and can be easily unscrewed to allow you to use the tripod with specialized heads - the disk at the top of the center column is compatible with any Manfrotto head.

This tripod was intended to replace my Dolica. I needed something much sturdier and the Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber is that. What's more, it has fewer leg sections, yet was much taller than the Dolica. For some, fewer and taller means less compact. I appreciate compactness, but physical mobility issues prevent me from hiking on foot through the woods and streets to do the kind of photography I enjoy. I already have a backpack strapped on and it carries oxygen. But my mobility aide, a Segway, is capable of carrying my camera equipment, including the Manfrotto 294 snuggled up to the control shaft.Having only owned this tripod for a short time, I haven't been able to test it in all circumstances and environments, but those I have used it in have convinced me this tripod is a keeper. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the ball head. Perhaps it's my fault because I didn't research heads well enough in relation to the type of photography I do and equipment I own.The recent supermoon appearance had me mounting my Nikon D5300 and a Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G AF-S VR IF-ED Telephoto Zoom on the Quick Release Ball Head. It was a struggle to compose the shots because of the sag, which was the result of the weight of the camera & lens. This is much less than the rated 11 pounds, but the lens hanging out there and the angle of the shot posed a serious problem.I should have done better research, even called the pros at B&H. They would have surely helped me to find a more appropriate head (I have since ordered the Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head). I got the wrong head, but I am convinced I have the right tripod.

This is a good, sturdy tripod for the money. But, for the money, I feel that some of the basic requirements that one will find in a cheaper tripod were left off of the design list. For example; I need a reasonably priced tripod that I can hike in with for landscape shots, but also adjust the tripod so that I can get, very low to the ground, Macro shots, with tight angles. This tripod doesn't allow for adjusting the legs out to 90 deg., allowing for very low, steady shots. It also doesn't have the ability to attach a weight between the legs for extra stability during moderate winds, or when you just feel the need for a sturdier set up. Both of these items could have been included with no added cost to the product itself. Good, but just not good enough.

The tripod is absolutely first class; light, well made, sturdy & easy to use. The ball head attachment fitment has some slack which detracts somewhat from the overall objective.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

I haven't had too many chances to use the Manfrotto tripod but so far I've been impressed. It's a well built tripod that's easy to use. The locking levers are solid and tight so no worries about them slipping during a shoot. I got it with the ball head, still getting used to it. My only complaint, and minor at that, is that the set screws for the head were loose when it arrived. I'm an amateur photographer that shoots mostly landscapes but also delving into portraits.

Legs are good, head is okay

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

The legs are reasonably lightweight and sturdy. They fold up small enough to strap to a backpack style back, so they're reasonably portable. There are certainly plenty of more expensive tripods that will have more features, but for general purpose if you're looking for something quick and reliable, these aren't bad. The head isn't great, and I will likely be replacing it before too long. It's reasonably sturdy, but has no bubble level, and since it's a single locking ball head, it can't be used for panning or tilting if you shoot video. That makes it easier to set quickly, but less precise when it comes to balancing. The quick release has a lock on the plate release lever so it won't open accidentally, but this means its not an easy one-handed open. If you're looking for a reasonably inexpensive set up that you can travel, or won't rely on for full time professional work, this isn't a bad option, but as you can tell from the price point, its certainly not meant to be top of the line.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

I use this for shooting multiple shots for HDR images. I like how lightweight it is. It's also very sturdy. It's a little taller than i would like when all legs are retracted, but that's probably what makes it sturdier. I don't mind that too much. It seems like it will be durable, although I've only had it a few weeks. The head is nice as well. Very well made and a nice feel to it. When you lock it in place there is no give. It's very sturdy. The only thing i don't like about the head is that the locking lever and tension knob are plastic. I would have preferred metal, but again, it's not a deal breaker. They seem like they are quality and will last as well. But this is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.
Nothing about this tripod and head seem cheap or poorly put together. I would definitely recommend it!

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

For the in-between amateur/pro this is a heavy duty tripod. Offers minimal choices for angling and positioning which makes it less complicated to use and allows the photographer to react quickly to the environment/situation. The ball head is sturdy and allows for infinite positioning. This one is not a smaller fold down sized tripod so I wouldn't expect to go backpacking with it, but you could if you wanted. Safety feature on the quick release plate is easy to use. Manfrotto quality at a valued price.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

Full disclosure, I ended up returning this tripod for another one, but will weigh in on it anyway. In typical Manfrotto fashion, this tripod was VERY well constructed. It was very lightweight yet seemed like it would hold up well. My main complaints were: 1) It's folded up size was a bit big for what I was looking for, 2) It seemed almost TOO lightweight for the size, etc. and I wanted to be able to carry a heavier load down the road. The 496RC2 ball head was great, and I may end up buying that by itself down the road. Overall, a very nice and well made tripod!

This tripod is just what I wanted for the hikes in to the various wilderness area waterfalls and mountain summits. It's quick and easy to set up and is sturdy. Do take care when setting up in the middle of the stream or on the rocky mountain peaks on a windy day.

Use this mostly for Photography while Hiking.Light weight, compact, easy setup and teardown. The "Ball Head" takes some time to get used to, but, love that I don't have the control arms always getting in the way as I'm trying to stow and un-stow.Very rigid for being half the weight. I truly appreciate the carbon fiber weight savings since I'm often, hand carrying it from spot to spot.

I use this on. D5100 for landscape shoots. It is very simple and sturdy. It is light because of the carbon fiber, which adds $ to the price over the aluminum 294 version. But it seemed worth it. I would definitely recommend it. You can keep the part that screws into the camera body fixed on the camera without havin got removing it each time. It doesn't take up much space affixed to the camera.

I bought this beautiful Tripod for my cousins as a gift, since he likes shooting photograph as his hobby. He lives in southeast Asia, but his dreams is to become a professional photographer. So I decided to get this for him as a Christmas gift. I hope he will like it and many wished for his dream come true.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

I use this tripod mostly for night astrophotography and it absolutely serves it's purpose perfectly. It is solid and steady. I love the height it offers. I am just under six feet tall and at its full height The camera can be pointing directly above me and I would have to stand on my toes to reach the viewfinder with my eye. The only regret I have with this product is that it doesn't come with a bag. For the price I really think Manfrotto could afford to include at least an unpadded bag. Other than that I would buy this product again and would recommend it to any serious photographer no matter what type floats your boat.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Quick Release Ball Head Kit:

First off, B&H offers this tripod and head at the lowest price I've seen. Since I got it I have been impressed with how solid it is. I am very impressed with the tripod. The head is a good quality tripod head but is basic. I have nothing bad to say about it but its clear it doesn't have the bells and whistles of more expensive heads. All in all I would definitely recommend because of quality, function, and price.

This tripod is top quality, and I am very impressed with it. It is extremely stable, and holds my Nikon D7100 with an 18-300mm lens very precisely. The head is very easy to use, and I love how light it is. I am very pleased!

I LOVE this tripod! I wanted a good one, and I got it! Sturdy, lightweight, easy to use. I pinched my finger once while turning the ball head from landscape to portrait, and won't do it again ;)
