        Best Uses

          Comments about computar M8513 Monofocal Manual Iris Lens (8.5mm):

          This lens does what it promises to do. The image quality is decent for the price.
          It's a very cheap lens and it shows though:
          It's all plastic except the C-mount ring.
          No aperture or focus scale, so you're basically guessing the F value and focal distance.
          Also, the iris has only 3 petals, so the bokeh is an unusual triangle shape. This may be either a pro or a con, depending on your preference.

          I also have some M0814-MP2 lenses. Those are much better built, all aluminium / brass, better image quality, 6-petal iris, have scales with F numbers etc., but cost twice as much.

          I keep trying different C-mount lenses for a robot project. My cameras (Ximea XiQ) have an unusually large 1" sensor (CMV4000) and all the 1" format lenses are too big to fit, so I'm trying to modify 2/3" format lenses to reduce vignetting.
          The M8513 looked like a good candidate, as the plastic body was easier to cut / grind down (and it was cheap), but ultimately, the M0814-MP2 had not only better image quality, it's smaller and I could extend the projected image size more.
