The black Fujifilm X100 Ergonomic Extension Kit is an accessory kit containing a thumb rest and a soft shutter release.
The thumb rest attaches to your camera via the hot shoe and utilizes silicone rubber inserts to dampen vibrations and provide stable, protected contact with the camera. This grip provides a more ergonomic structure to the camera, allowing for greater one-handed operation as well as more balance and less grip pressure required when shooting. The 22° beveled rest also offers more protection to the exposure compensation dial, reducing the chance of accidentally changing its position.
The soft shutter release is a simple design that permits easier releasing of the shutter release button avoiding unnecessary camera shake. This button screws into the cable release socket of your camera and creates an extended, soft release button.

Comments about Fujifilm X100 Ergonomic Extension Kit (Black):
This kit really put your tumb to rest, add more grip and add stability to hold the camera in one hand.
B&H forgot to add another item that comes in the box, that is the "Quick-Release Plate",like the tripod plate, but this can do both,to mount it on the tripod or you can use shoulder strap to hold/hang the camera.
So it comes with 3 item in the box, which explain the price. Worth every penny.
Limited edition X100 owner should add this accessory. =)

Comments about Fujifilm X100 Ergonomic Extension Kit (Black):
I'm sure this works well with the X-100, but after comparison of various photos I ordered it because I thought it could be fitted to my new X-E1. Found out that the thumb rest takes a bit of modifying: there's a metal supporting ledge that barely hits the bracketing dial on the top right section of the camera. To make it fit the X-E1, you need to remove a "rubber" pad (it's a pressure fit; just pop it out) and then, with a hacksaw or metal-cutting blade on a jigsaw, or even with a semi-curved rough file, remove a relatively small amount of the metal ledge; finally, put the pad back in place with some glue and trim the excess after it adheres. If you undertake the job, the necessary work will be readily apparent, and the result is a fantastically improved grip on the X-E1 for your right thumb: it makes hand-holding the camera securely and without the possibility of hitting a button by mistake a snap! And a pleasure! As a bonus, there's another metal part supplied with this kit but not mentioned in the maker's summary which attaches to the camera's baseplate and gives you a perfectly centered tripod socket without fouling the battery/memory card door.
This kit is obviously over-expensive, but the result greatly improves handling if you're willing to spend 20 minutes making it fit the X-E1. I imagine that right out of the box it will be just as satisfactory if you are indeed going to fit it to the X100. Highly recommended either way!
