The PowerShot S110 Digital Camera from Canon is an advanced compact digital camera with a 12MP resolution 1/1.7" CMOS sensor, redesigned high speed autofocus, and 3.0" touch screen display. It also shoots Full HD video and RAW files in several aspect ratios. Its 5x optical zoom lens has the 35mm equivalent of a 24-120mm focal length, while the built-in Control Ring allows for easy access to functions and settings. Other than the cameras hardware, the S110 uses various Canon technologies such as Intelligent IS for stabilization, Smart AUTO for easy scene detection, Movie Digest for an automated highlight reel, and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity to print and share photos or videos wirelessly.
The 12.1MP High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor works in tandem with Canon's own DIGIC 5 Image Processor to create the unique Canon HS SYSTEM. With this system, you'll experience excellent autofocus, tracking and high ISO performance, even in low lighting. This means you can shoot using higher shutter speeds, with less of a chance for camera shake, and clearer images as a result. The same is also true when shooting video.
In addition to the HS SYSTEM's fast performance, the S110 also has a redesigned High Speed AF feature that greatly improves the speed of the camera's autofocus. With a short 0.2 sec AF delay, and 0.25 sec shooting time lag, you can capture more fleeting moments that otherwise would have been missed - or a blur. High-Speed Burst HQ allows for a maximum of approximately 10 fps of continuous shooting, while maintaining the camera's full 12MP image resolution.
With its 5x Optical Zoom, the S110's 24-120mm equivalent lens has a bright f/2.0 aperture, which is ideal for low-light conditions or using a shallow depth-of-field for pleasing, defocused background effects. These benefits also translate into the Full HD video captured by the camera, providing the same desirable background effects, and excellent zoom for close-ups of your subject.
On the back of the camera, a 3.0" capacitive touch panel LCD offers easy and intuitive operation with the tap of a finger. The LCD, with Canon's PureColor system, responds to familiar one- and two-finger gestures. Users can spread and pinch to change the magnification in playback, drag two fingers to switch the display, and quickly select camera settings. Of course, you can also adjust the panel's touch sensitivity to your liking. The camera's control ring, located at the base of the lens barrel, can be used in conjunction with the Touch Panel to conveniently access a range of additional actions, including Touch Shutter to capture images by pressing the touch screen rather than the shutter release.
A whole list of additional settings and functions can be adjusted quickly and conveniently using the PowerShot S110's control ring. Located at the base of the lens, the ring can be an easy way to change settings faster than the traditional methods of point-and-shoot cameras. The functions that can be assigned to the control ring vary with each shooting mode, and you can set your preferences quickly using the dedicated ring-function selector button.
The PowerShot S110 has built-in Wi-Fi for wirelessly sharing the images you've captured, wherever you find a wireless hotspot or compatible device. The camera makes it easy to connect directly to both iOS and Android devices, and upload your images via the free Canon CameraWindow app. You can easily post the photos to your favorite social networks in order to update friends and family while you're traveling. Even without a mobile device, you can send images to a PC, share images between Wi-Fi enabled PowerShot cameras, and even print by sending your images to a wireless printer.
Capture stunning Full HD 1080p video, with stereo sound, using the dedicated movie button built into the back of the camera. The full range of optical zoom is available while shooting, and watching your videos afterward is easy by conveniently playing them on an HDTV via the mini-HDMI output. Simply touch the dedicated movie button, embedded in the PowerShot S110's thumb pad, and start recording your 1080p Full HD video.
To keep your photos and videos from blurring or shaking, Intelligent IS automatically chooses from six different modes to provide the best image stabilization for the given situation. Capture clear, sharp images, even in low light conditions, without having to use a tripod. This allows you to focus on framing and capturing your shots, rather than how still you can hold the camera.

I bought this camera to have with me at all times, mainly during work. I work in construction management and therefor I come around many situations where I need my visual reminders. For this I need good low-light performance. Building sites usually have a lot op dust in the air so flash is awfull. This camera has an excellent low-light performance. It's not like my Canon 5dII but great for a compact. Next to that pleasantly handy are the HDR features and touch screen (point at the auto focus subject on the screen). I recently purchased this camera to replace my Canon A720is which gave out after 6 years of excellent service. The compact size is perfect as I wanted a camera that I could carry with me in my purse. Although I am still learning all that it can do I am very pleased with the pictures I have already taken.

This is a very nice shirt pocket camera. I was surprised at how good it was. The old one I broke was about 6 years old and this one is many many times better. I also own a DSLR Nikon D80. Except for the big lens for long range wildlife shots this camera would come close to replacing it.
The only drawbacks are no view finder and hard to hang onto. The body is very slippery and it would be very easy to drop. I plan to stick some rubber tape on the front where my grip hand holds it. These two items are the only reasons I am only giving it 4 stars.
The pictures are better than any I have seen on a camera this small. The learning curve is small.
I like it and just hope I don't let it slip out of my hand and break it.

One of the only Canon P&S cameras that will do RAW. Largish sensor makes great photos, nearly as good as our DSLR 40D. Focuses and takes better photos in low light than many other P&S.
Primary use is for convenience when the DSLR is just too big/awkward. Travel size.
Didn't think I would like the adjustment ring, but it's actually quite useful. Surpisingly short lag time. Overall, better than I expected.

I travel a lot and love taking photos while going out anywhere, so I was very excited to find a camera the size of a point and shoot with the quality you'd find in DSLR cameras in the same price range. Very easy to use even when shooting outside of auto, and excels in capturing lots of color and taking low-light photos.

Although I typically use a DSLR, after back surgery I really needed a lighter, yet powerful, alternative for long hikes in the mountains. The S110, while not perfect, is quite configurable, takes good low-light shots, and is pretty fast. Sure, it would be great if the lens had more reach, was faster, and took filters, but then it would be heavier, negating its purpose in the first place. Overall, I think it's a great travel alternative to ten pounds of glass and metal on my back.

Comments about PowerShot S110 Digital Camera (Black):
I bought the S110 to replace my still-working, but 3-year-old, S90. It appeared that its improved specifications made the upgrade worthwhile. I just returned from a one-week foreign trip on which I took 700 pictures (I left my 5D Mark II at home because of warnings about crime in that country; the S110 attracted zero attention).
Some observations:
• The battery quit before I did one day after I'd taken 251 pictures, 49 with flash. Not bad (though I've never run out of battery in a day with my DSLR).
• Touch screen easily facilitates use of menus and selection of focus point.
• Use of control ring is versatile and much improved.
• Display has an optional level indicator to tell you whether the camera is tilted or straight. This is very useful to me because in the past I would often unintentionally tilt the camera (despite the grid on the display) requiring straightening in post-processing.
• I like to use 16:9 aspect ratio for display on my computer screen. Formerly, that required cropping each picture in post-processing. The S110 has a 16:9 aspect ratio built in (and doesn't fill the memory card with the unused pixels). (It also includes 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, and 4:5 aspects.)
• Focus is fast and accurate. I discarded less than 1% of my shots for being out-of-focus.
• Exposure is generally accurate, even for difficult lighting conditions.
• Zoom range is very useful (5X optical -- 24-120mm equivalent).
• Much improved low-light performance (higher usable ISOs).
• I thought I would use the wi-fi function to send pictures from the camera to my iPad (for back-up storage during a trip and to send a daily photo report to family). However, use of this function is not user-friendly; it's faster and easier to just plug the memory card into the iPad.
• The camera also theoretically gathers GPS data from your smartphone and adds it to the metadata on the camera. I gave up trying to make this function work; I don't really need it, and it was more trouble than it was worth to figure it out.

I use an old Canon 20D SLR 8.2MP and wanted to buy a Point Shoot Camera that has a close range picture quality of what I have, so I research and found S110, it's image quality takes about almost the same as my Canon 20D, not only that some concert venues doesn't allow SLR camera that has interchangable lens, but allow a Canon S110 Point & Shoot Camera. This camera takes good low lights depending where you shot the image with a perfect bounce light or where a good backdrop or where you shoot it at. It also takes great HD Videos from 1920x1080, 1280x720p, & Standard 640x480, the movie is saved as a .MOV. The video can also be played via any TV set that supports A/V out, and comes free with a cable to attach it to. The Camera Shoots in different advance settings like the ones in SLR, with Program, M, A, TV, AV, and a HDR mode too. I happy with my purchase, and I recommend getting a higher SD capacity card to record video, besides 16GB, it wouldn't be enough if you like to shoot in HD video on this Camera. One more thing, when you view your images on the LCD its pretty cool, it has a swipe feature like the one in IPAD, which you move your fingers to move to the next image, and it resizeable too by pinching in smaller to bigger, and if you flip the camera in vertical or horizontal the image your viewing changes too that flip side of the camera.
