The Canon EF mount Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine ED AS IF UMC Lens was developed primarily for film and video applications. The cine version of Rokinon's 14mm lens features industry-standard gearing for the focus and aperture ring, and the aperture ring has been de-clicked for smooth iris pulls. The aperture and focus scales have also been relocated to the side of the lens, where it is easier for focus pullers to read them.

This lens is compatible with full-frame sensors and can also be used on APS-C-sized sensors, where the 35mm-equivalent focal length will be 22.4mm. The optical construction incorporates three high refractive index elements, two extra-low dispersion elements, one hybrid aspherical elements, and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberration and distortion to produce sharper imagery. Additionally, a UMC coating has been applied to lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich images.

Fast T3.1 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions.
Three high refractive index elements, two extra-low dispersion elements, one hybrid aspherical element, and one aspherical element reduce chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and clarity.
UMC coating improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.
Geared aperture and focus rings are compatible with standard follow focuses for greater control over adjustment.
De-clicked aperture ring facilitates smooth, quiet exposure adjustments during recording.

I am a film student and I got this lens to shoot both personal projects and material for my reel. It looks fantastic on my Canon 600D with the crop frame. Very sharp even wide open, and you really do need to shoot it wide open if you're indoors and don't have an expensive light set up. The slight mustache distortion is noticeable even on the crop frame sensor but not overbearing. I actually really like the look of it most of the time. I have also used an adaptor to put this lens on the Sony FS-100 and it's still fantastic. I didn't get any vignetting and the sharpness was still good wide open.

The two things keeping this lens from getting five stars is the design of the front and the focus ring. The large glass element at the front of the lens looks gorgeous but makes it impossible to use any conventional filters, most notably ND. In bright daylight without the ability to use ND you lose control of where you want to set you aperture. Basically you have to close it down much farther than you might want to. Also the Focus draw is really too long. With a 14mm the depth of field is fairly long most of the time anyways and the focus draw on this lens is close to 300 degrees! When the focus is set near infinity you can turn the focus ring nearly 90 degrees and not perceive any noticeable difference in the sharpness of your subject.

My peers have been very impressed with my Rokinon lenses over the last couple months and one of them will be borrowing them to use on the Red Epic this weekend for his senior project.

The price of this lens is very good and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in working with some very sharp prime glass at a very reasonable price.

Canon 14mm this ain't, but at about 1/5 of the price of the Canon 14mm, this little Rokinon is truly a gem.
To my knowledge it isn't rectilinear like the Canon, but it still performs quite well.
The Cine model has the aperture ring declicked, which is very useful for video work as well as getting in-between typical f or t stops. Wide open at T3.1 it isn't the sharpest, but once you stop down it's pretty darn sharp.
It's more of a 3.5 Stars than a 3 Star, image quality wise I wouln't go higher than 3.5 Stars.
Good bang for your buck, just don't expect Canon 14mm performance from a lens that's 1/5 of the price.

It has a good feel to it, the image is as sharp as you can expect for a lens in this price range. I'm using it a lot with a red scarlet and a blackmagic cinema camera.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine ED AS IF UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

First I have to say that I am very happy with this lens. I purchased it primariily for still use, though video is a second consideration. (I started off on 8mm film and 35mm still cameras with manual everything so I gravitate towards cine lenses) I tend to leave it on my camera all the time now, only reaching for my faster Canon 35mm when it's low light, or for a tele when I spy a critter I want to shoot.
However, this is a heavy lens. The front element is huge. It must weigh a pound by itself.
The metal construction of the body only adds to the heft. This is reassuring from a quality and durability standpoint, but annoying when you are carrying it.

It does take great shots. At first I felt it was a bit too barrel distorted. And this is evident in a shot with a lot of rectilinear objects. However it also adds a certain hugeness to the shot. It grabs color and contrast very well.
If you work the iris and focus you can get some nice deep focus shots where everything is pretty sharp.

I'd also ding it for the inablity to use screw on filters. Many times I wish I could use a ND or polarizing filter, but the huge element at the front precludes this. Heck even with a full cine setup on rails you might have a hard time getting any kind of filter in front without vignetting.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine ED AS IF UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

I use this lens almost exclusively for video and it's amazing. It's the equivalent of a much much more expensive canon lens but because it doesn't preoccupy itself with electronic bells and whistles needed for photography (like autofocus and electronic aperture) it costs a fraction of the price.

Great for videography! But I wouldn't recommend it to a photographer.

Sharp from corner to corner, durable, and honestly I haven't found anything I don't like about this lens so far. And no, I don't work for Rokinon. As a matter of fact I'm a Canon lens fan. Or am I? ;)

Comments about Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine ED AS IF UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

This lens is used for small video recordings using a standard rig. Quality is excellent and distortion is minimal.
Focus on close subjects is tricky, but since is used mainly for wide shots, focus is always set to infinite and this works fine.
Don't spend a fortune and buy one of this. You won't regret it.

Bought this as I have used it on a Red Epic with good results. Pretty wide though, so not the lens you will use the most. Nice smooth focus and iris. Will vignette slightly on a full frame like a 5D, but I often like a bit of vignetting. Still, dirt cheap though.

I was very impressed with the build quality of this lens the second I held it. The focus and aperture rings are super smooth and the lens as a whole feels solid and dependable. The glass is huge and just plainly looks badass on my t2i. I wish it would stop down lower than t3.1 but you can only ask for so much. Video shot with this lens is always very sharp and professional looking. I use this lens to do short marketing videos and capturing a room pan takes only a short turn with a tripod because the lens is so wide, however, lines in the image never become so distorted that it appears like a skate video or anything. Overall excellent lens in extremely satisfied with the purchase!

We love this lens, its de-clicked which makes it better for video work. Clean sharp image, although difficult to focus on the camera viewfinder. Sometimes I just use the distance calibration on the lens focus ring, and it seems to work well due to the high DOF. Manufacture quality is average, nothing compared to a canon L series, but at this price its still a great lens. We also bought the 85mm Rokinon after this as we were so pleased with the 14mm.

I use a 60D and it does a good job keeping things wide when I need it. Great construction, super smooth, and great quality.

Comments about Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine ED AS IF UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount:

The biggest problem with this lens is that, it's so good looking, you don't want to hate it...!

The look on my 60D is simply amazing. At the beginning, I couldn't stop looking at it. The big chunk of glass in front is very eye catching. Also, while shooting with a fallow focus, this lens makes it quicker to load on. Mechanisms is as smooth as can be, and the traveling is long so you won't miss your mark. But, be careful using a mate box, cause with the fix hood (good thing to protect the prominent lens) you might see the sides of it.

That being said, this lens is not so sharp. Being a manual lens, meaning having no indication on your monitor, most of the time you don't notice the aperture. So in my case, I probably end up shooting wide open most of the time. Result, every shots are soft compare to shots from other lenses I used in my movie. (Next time I'll try not to open to much and see the result.)

Also, I kind of noticed that the indications on the side of the barrel aren't precise at all, witch led me to, not referring to it at all.

Did I got a lemon? I don't know, but I'll have a better judgment after using it a bit more.

Last thing. This lens is not rectilinear at all compare to what I've read before buying it. So be aware. This is a Fish Eye Lens...

Disappointed? A little bit. But for the price...? What can I say!?

Great build quality for the price range. This is L series quality glass without any of the electronics or weather proofing (which makes this cine lens ultra affordable). While all the rokinon cine lenses are fast I would suggest closing down at least a stop on all these lenses to get the sharpest image. Having said that, I have shot wide open on these lenses and as long as you don't have to digitally zoom in on the footage it is perfectly acceptable.

The only reason not to give the Rokinon Cine 14mm five stars is, from my point of view, the noticeable linear distortion. It is not for architectural photos or any other where rectilinearity is important. However, in every other situation it performs beautifully. Solidly built, relatively light weight, very smooth aperture and focus; true color, and excellent contrasty black and white. Perfect interior grab-shot lens that, in spite of being totally manual, works precisely with the Canon 5D Mark II in general, program, or aperture priority modes. I set the lens at T3.1 and focus just short of infinity: I never have to check focus again and have no need to change the T-stop for the general photography I do. I'm sure that the Canon 14mm f/2,8 L lens, at four and half times the price of the Rokinon, is optically superior. But this lens is a surprise and a very pleasant one; the first non-camera manufacturer's lens I've purchased. I'm looking seriously now at the Rokinon 35mm T1.5!

Coming from the Micro 4/3 arena, this lens is a great one to have in your kit. It's not quite as fast as the other Rokinon Cine lenses, but no doubt you will use this lens often. Some people complain about it being too wide or 'fisheye', but if you're using something like a Micro 4/3 sensor, it's a nonexistent problem.

The main competitor for this lens is the SLR Magic 12mm T1.6. That lens is slightly wider, faster, and won't require an adapter. It will cost more in the long run, but it's the way to go if you have a need for speed. The wide distortion of the SLR Magic is more noticable than the Rokinon. Also the Rokinon is easier to handle.
