This ASUS notebook redefines the term "mobile gaming." Full resolution graphics, consistent frames per second (fps) and high definition multimedia are compacted into a notebook which allows you to dominate the competition while on the go.

This ASUS notebook has a 17.3" Full HD anti-glare widescreen display that is backlit with LED lamps, which brighten faster, use less power and provide better picture quality than their CCFL counterparts. The screen has a true 16:9 aspect ratio, which is also the standard of HDTVs. The Full HD 1920 x 1080 native resolution is supported by an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M with 3GB of discrete memory.

The system is powered by a quad-core Ivy Bridge 2.4GHz Intel Core i7-3630QM processor. It also comes with 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 750GB 7200rpm hard drive + a 256GB solid state drive, a Blu-ray player with DVD burning capabilities, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, an integrated webcam and microphone. The built-in stereo speakers are also accompanied by a built-in subwoofer. Windows 8 (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

Hardware

Quad-Core Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7 Performance
This ASUS notebook imposes its will on other gaming notebooks with its powerful Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7-3630QM processor. Its quad cores can run at 2.4GHz and up to 8 threads. It can also be overclocked up to 3.4GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. The 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM memory ensures that programs and games open quickly so you can jump right into the fray with minimum loading times. Multitasking is also a breeze for when you have to take a break from being awesome in order to check email, surf the Web and more
Full 1080p HD Video Quality
When it comes to gaming computers, the graphics processor is one of the most important, if not the most important, component. Luckily, this ASUS notebook doesn't disappoint with an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M graphics processing unit (GPU). It has an enormous 3GB of dedicated memory just for rendering graphics. No longer will you have to deal with jagged edges and screen tearing because the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M provides smooth visual effects and stunning 1080p quality
Sleek Design
Inspired by a stealth fighter, this ASUS notebook regains superiority over the competition with advanced design and battle-hardened build quality. The soft, sleek but muscular lines will allow you to outmaneuver and dominate ungainly competitors, while the advanced thermals and gamer friendly design will keep you immersed. The spacious, adjustable and back-illuminated seamless one-piece keyboard with soft-touch palm rest and isolated arrow keys will allow you to keep gaming without cramping up. No need to just beat the competition, when you can also look good while you're doing it
An Intense Audio & Visual Experience
Eye strain will be the thing of the past with this ASUS notebook's anti-glare matte screen. The display also has a wide viewing angle to reduce the dead zone and helps to improve visibility during gaming, particularly in dark environments. The built-in subwoofer and SonicMaster audio technology ensure a rich and powerful experience that will ward off challengers
Incredible Thermal Efficiency
This ASUS notebook packs a massive performance punch, which needs to be kept cool. The dual fan filter system enables you to keep your system running cooler and quieter for a long period of time. The unique, intelligent thermal design improves power and thermal efficiency by exhausting hot air from the back of the machine, enabling you to leave the competition battling for survival in your wake

Windows 8

The New Start Screen
Windows 8 introduces a new Start screen, which has all the information you need in one place. The traditional Windows desktop screen has been replaced with a more tablet style design featuring tiles. These tiles are customizable to your liking as well as update in real time. News, weather forecasts, sports, contacts, apps and more are available for you to use. It's all right there on the Start screen. If you prefer the traditional Start screen of Windows 7, you have the option to switch to it
To the Cloud
With Windows 8, you'll be able to bring all your personalized Start screen with you by signing into your Microsoft account. When signed in using your Microsoft account, you'll have instant access to your own Start screen, themes, language preferences, browsing history and browser favorites. You can also connect to your services as well, such as Microsoft Outlook, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter and more
Windows Store
In the Windows Store, you can search for or browse thousands of apps. Choose from the featured apps or grab one of the most frequently downloaded apps to see what all the hype is all about. You can also see how other people rate apps. For certain apps, you can try it out before you buy it so you can make sure you absolutely want an app before you spend your hard-earned money on it

This is the third ASUS gaming laptop we've owned, not because we had problems with any of them, but as games have become more demanding of computing power, we need more SPEED and GRAPHICS, and this latest ASUS laptop DELIVERS!! This machine has tripled the FPS on many of our games, and it runs Adobe Photoshop (CS8) without a hitch. It is a brute of a machine, but lighter than earlier models, not something you want to casually haul to the airport or coffee shop. The backlit keyboard is great, the SSD it boots from means going from "off" to "running" in about 15 sec or so, not minutes as before. Sound is good for a laptop. Downside? We're trying to cope with the changes implemented in Windows 8, not a machine issue, but us trying to figure out the new interface. For those of you that live and die by your smart phones, it's probably no big deal. Once again, ASUS delivers. Oh, and with the solid state drive, this machine is super quiet!

I use this computer primarily for photo/video editing and astrophotography. The machine is, simply put, awesome. Unbelievably fast and amazing video. Data transfer from external devices is great, transfering multiple gig in no time flat.

The touchpad is a nice size for precise work. The backlit keyboard is easy to use in the dark and comfortably large. The system is on the heavy side, but that is a small price to pay for its ruggedness.

Now for the bad... Windows 8. Microsoft hit a major foul ball with the consumer release of 8 and its metro interface that you cannot get rid of. This clunky interface detracts from an otherwise amazing machine.

Also bad: ASUS does not supply a restore disc with this computer. Instead, the restore is located on a hidden partition which is difficult to access. If your hard drive has a physical failure, you loose your operating system. There does not appear to be a way to back up this version of the restore partition. ASUS will, however, sell you a restore disc for $50. If you wish to talk to their tech support, you'll have to give them your credit card for a $79 charge before they entain your questions.

This computer should deserve 5+ stars. However, the poor business decisions by both MS and ASUS have, unfortunately, added a sour note.

Comments about ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VW-DH72 17.3" Notebook Computer (Black):

I am a professional photographer and I use this laptop for editing photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. It is a beast! I can have both programs open and doing tasks like exporting very quickly and without any lag. I have photoshop set to use 10gb of RAM and that still leaves 6gb more for my other running programs.

It really can boot up in at MOST 10 seconds, but 7 seconds happens.

It can handle everything I throw at it, and I imagine that it can take so much more!

It is all USB 3.0 which is blazing fast! I am always astonished how quickly I can import and backup files.

The only negative is that it is big and kinda heavy, but that is expected when you buy a 17.3 inch laptop. It was hard to find a case that would fit it and it can just fit into my backpack, although I know I don't want to bring this beast everywhere I go.

I would totally recommend this. I love it and am completely satisfied.

Work Computer for Solar Design and Layout, email, spreadsheets, web access and photo editing.
I like the large 17" screen, fast processor, large SSD and hard disk. Not wild about Windows 8 but starting to appreciaite it. The touchpad is excellent and the keyboard too, however I do not like the small zero key on the 10-key pad below the two. Anyone who can acutally ten-key lke me will miss the zero and instead hit the right arrow which infringes on the 10-key space. Practice will prevail. Other dislikes are that it is heavy and does not last long on battery but I expected this as the tradeoff to get the power and large screen I wanted.

The computer boots up in 15 seconds, and shuts down as quickly. The display has HD resolution. So far have not had any heat/ overheating issues. That said if you are wanting to use this for CAD programs you may want to look at Xi, as this graphics chip is not the best choice for say CATIA v5/ 6 or NX. Also Windows 8 is a problem. Which is not ASUS's fault, the program is nowhere near as easy to use as 7.

Only one thing, i am still trying to get used to Windows 8.

Amazing screen, responsive keyboard, blazing solid state drive. More USB 3.0 ports than I can utilize. Yes, it is a large laptop, but it is all muscle.
